Egypt has brokered a deal between Israel and Hamas to end fighting in Gaza. The agreement calls for a six-month cease-fire, and the possibility of reopening Gaza’s borders and returning a captured Israeli soldier.

BBC:

Israel and militant group Hamas have agreed to end months of bitter clashes with a six-month truce starting on Thursday, Palestinian officials say.

A Hamas official said he was confident all militant groups in Gaza would abide by the agreement, brokered by Egypt.

Israeli officials said they were “looking to see if this is serious”.

Without a decent press (see Chris Hedges article http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/20080721_so_goes_the_newsroom_the_empire_and_the_world/

we are screwed.

The U.S. is going to fabricate any means it chooses to justify invading Iran.

The “Left” is going to get tangled up in lies coming from groups like Save Darfur and Reporters Without Borders.

Without a decent press, all is lost, and that is why I urge action directed AT our press, and applaud TruthDig for providing True, alternative media.

Hi Cyrena,

I responded to your suggestion on the “Threats in the Middle East” thread.

Ed Harges, on this:

“...Isn’t it fairly obvious that these are only temporary, phony peace overtures, designed to keep Syria and Hamas quiet while Israel and the US assault Iran?..”

YES!! It’s overwhelmingly obvious! Why else would Israel pretend to accept a ceasefire? This is standard treachery from them.

Meantime, I’m overwhelmingly distraught at the reality…that the Terrorist Twins are close to executing their long planned assault on Iran.

To that end, I posted a suggestion (for comments) on both the Gore Vidal thread, as well as the Fisk piece on “Threats in the Middle East.”

Notice too how MSM always denigrate the Palestinian as the ‘Militant’, implying that the opponent is unarmed, dressed in white robes, benign, well intentioned pure and harmless?

I wish the Semitic people of Palestine…

I am waiting for all the denunciations of Israel for negotiating with “terrorists.”

Israel and the US are getting ready to destroy Iran. And notice that Israel has been sort of making nice to Syria these days, and now to Hamas. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.

Isn’t it fairly obvious that these are only temporary, phony peace overtures, designed to keep Syria and Hamas quiet while Israel and the US assault Iran?

Israel keeps its agreements.  It’s their neighbors who don’t !

I have to agree with you Arabian Thoroughbred..

Matter of fact, I clicked my tongue in disgust at this comment from Israel..

“..Israeli officials said they were “looking to see if this is serious”...

Talk about the epitome of hypocritical irony. If there is an agreement to be upheld, Israel can be counted on to break it. They’ve done this a few hundred times before…at least.

Have we not heard several times before about Israel’s rejection of these offers?! This will prove again to be a night talk, which the rays of the daylight will prove to be false!
