It’s My Party and I’ll Convene if I Want toPosted on Jun 10, 2008
Rep. Ron Paul really wants to speak at the Republican convention. He’s been getting the cold shoulder from the GOP, so now Paul is planning to hold his own convention in a nearby arena during the week that John McCain officially becomes the nominee.

Ron Paul is a Libertarian; I am extremely frustrated with his continuation in the Republican party. It is a sad day when a run-of-the-mill republican hypocrite like Bob Barr is heading-up the Libertarian ticket, while a true Libertarian like Paul is content to be buried and stone-walled by the Republican party.
Forget McCain and Obama (and Barr), read-up on the Founders, the Constitution and modulate all of this with John Stuart Mills “On Liberty”. Except nothing less than full personal liberty, non-interventionism and adherence to the “Harm Principal” in organizing our laws and markets.

cyrena, I took the risk of writing my comment more to stick a thorn in the side of MSM than to support Paul. I felt this was only fair, since, in spite of his unexpectedly successful fund-raising through those “different ways of communicating,” it was harder to gather reports on what he said on a day-to-day basis than it was to do the same for Kucinich (only because the latter had, and still has, the CHUTZPAH to be brash and outspoken)! Whatever may be “on the record” (which is not to dismiss its value), the only way to view the political process is as an ongoing conversation; and even your “serious people” are hampered by media bias when it comes to monitoring that conversation. (They just happen to be better at recognizing bias when they encounter it!)

I am currently watching Sen Obama fro his response to the Kucinich 35 articles of Impeachment. He , if any, is the only Dem I will consider gving my vote to in Nov- The last String holding me to the Democratic Party after 26 yrs of Loyality.
Report thisHe fails this ‘Test’ of Patriotism/Change I’m voting for Ron Paul.
This IS the Change we Want- this IS Our nations Numer One Priority.Failure to acknowledge this constitutes a Confession of Complicity.
Impeachment is the LEAST that should be done to this adminstration.Conviction of High Crimes committed by this Admin and their Corp Co conspirators is the Real Goal!

May I make a reccommendation to all of those Ron Paul supporters who don’t think that his message can be heard beyond MSM. (actually, I NEVER watch MSM, and my TV hasn’t been on in months, aside for my occassional entertainment with drama series like Num3bers and Criminal Minds.)
In other words, I’m less likely to believe that for serious people, ‘it’ doesn’t happen if it doesn’t happen on TV. We have different ways of communicating now, which is exactly why Barack Obama is the Democratic Party nominee. He’s used 21st Century technology to build a *new* movement of the Democratic Party. Most of his supporters have *not* relied on MSM for their information or their motivation.
So, we’ll have to stop using that as an excuse for why Ron Paul has not been more in tune with the American Public. It is even less of an excuse for so-called independently minded citizens, because if folks really wanted to know more about Ron Paul and his views, there are over 20 years worth of official records available to provide that. All are accessible via the Internet or your local library. The Congressional record of Ron Paul is there and available for anyone to look at, and COMPARE to his current rhetoric.
I would reccommend reading it, along with your copies of the Constitution, and find out just how close the ‘match’ actually is.

If Obama wins and is unable to contain inflation or energize job growth outside of the government, I think Ron Paul’s brand of Republicanism could be a big factor in future elections.

Ron Paul was (and still is) clearly the best presidential candidate if you value limited government, personal freedoms, and non-intervention in foreign affairs. No one else even comes close. Bob Barr, the official Libertarian Party nominee, is just a slightly warmed-over Republican who wants to maintain our interventionist foreign policy and continue the insane, unconstitutional War on Drugs.
I hope Ron Paul is able to embarrass the Republicans by having a huge and enthusiastic turnout for his alternative convention.

mark - I’m with you. I was a Republicrat and am now a RonPaulblican. Obama is bought and paid for and his strings are being pulled by the likes of Zbigniew Brzezinski, who is up there on the evil scale with Kissinger. Obama’s recent AIPAC speech was the most blatant example of pandering I’ve seen in a while.
The more Ron Paul’s message is heard the more likely people will wake-up to the message of freedom, liberty and peace. Perhaps a few more people might read the Constitution as well.

I been am a leaning Democrat Progressive for all my life (I’m 51yo). Lately I’ve been paying attention to the rhetoric of Ron Paul. I believe I’m slowly becoming a Republican, at least a believer of Ron Paul. The man is legitimate and I do hope his message gets heard by the masses. That’s the trick. As mentioned above, he needs TV coverage. Without it, the best man for the job will be overlooked and the horse race will be won by special interests’. We do not need a repeat of the last 8 years. Mr Obama may have his act together, but I’m fearful someone is pulling his strings like a marionette.

Just remember, if it doesn’t happen on television, it does not happen. Make sure to let all those media sources that depend on “eyeballs for advertising” (beginning with MSNBC) know that you want to hear what Paul has to say. If their channel decides not to give the event live coverage, you will switch to one that does! (My guess is that, if all of the commercial channels give the event a pass, CSPAN will still cover it!) If our voices can affect the choice of a nominee, they should be able to affect the speeches we hear!
