Counter-Recruiters Push for School AccessPosted on Jun 9, 2008
The No Child Left Behind Act forces high schools to allow military recruiters access to students. Counter-recruitment groups that pitch alternatives to military service are working around the country to try to limit the impact of the Pentagon’s $3.5-billion effort. One organization in the Los Angeles area is pushing, with some success, for equal access.

Well “come on” to you, Paul. I’m making what is a legitimate observation about the disingenuous use of adolescents however they suit you. You’re happy to have them as a voting block for deciding our country’s direction, but they’re somehow not fit to make a personal decision about whether to join the military?
I can’t even tell from your original post what your point is… that we do away with the military and its “vultures” altogether? That we limit recruiting to senior citizens? What’s your point?
You expect me to take your arguments seriously? Try making ones that are 1) thoughtful, and 2) not transparently self-serving and clearly partisan.

It is well known that adolecents and younger do not yet have the proper wiring in their brains to make moral choices. “
And yet the Democratic party depends on them for a big part of its voting base. Apparently, they’re wired enough to make the moral choice to vote Democratic! Do you sense the irony that is my point?

It is well known that adolecents and younger do not yet have the proper wiring in their brains to make moral choices. This was recognized long ago and that is why we have a seperate ‘Justice System’ for juveniles. This truth is thoroughly confirmed by developmental neurophysiology.
Yet we encourage the armed services to dispatch their vultures to our youth to whisper in their ears of the glories of dealing death. Yes I also would love to murder (them), but I have enough neural inhibition to refrain from being obsessive about about it.
This is certainly the most powerful moral issue I can think of. If there was a militant underground which dealt with these vermin in the manner which they deserve, I guess I would join.

Jesus. They are not considered mature enough to drink until 21, but there is no age limit whatever for these military pimps to tell them of the glories of killing for their country. What a bunch of sickos we Americans are.

I totally agree with purple girl and the fact that serving your community as a pastor or a volunteer is just as important as serving your country in the military. Who will make the clothes or look after the service means families when they are deployed? It will be those who serve their community with by working and paying taxes. Oh and lets not forget those who put up the yellow ribbon. My whole outlook changed when I saw the PAT TILLMAN article on this webpage by PAT’S brother. I was amazed that the military would treat a national football hero the way it did. The question then becomes if the military will cover up and treat the TILLMAN family the way they did then how will they treat a student who joins the military out of high school and has no fame or fortune? It is important for our students to know that George Washington was in the military, but Ben Franklin was not. Both men did however contribute to this nation. It is very arrogant to assume that people who criticize anything the military does, are called traitors or not patriots. Kudos to TRUTHDIG for being honest with their reporting.

I am a firm beleiver in JKF’s ‘Ask Not what Your country can do for You, but what You can do for Your country’
Report thisCommunity Serivce is SERVICE!
I am disgusted by the Mantra that only if you put on a Uniform and carry a Weapon are you worthy to be considered a ‘hero’ to our country.
Granted the majority of those who enlist into the Armed Service put their lives on the line- but in the end it does not constitute ‘Doing th eRight thing’ They are allowing themselves to be used as tools for someone elses agenda- IRAQ< BLOOD FOR OIL. And it mus tbe recognized and acknowledge some actually go into this ‘service’ jus tfor th ereason they can carry a weapon and ield Power over Others. The Police forces around the country attest to that Fact- LA , NY Unprovoked and unwarranted beating and Shootings!
The Majority do have a sense of Duty and Moral fiber, but a good number also just want to KILL without repercussions.
Obviously the Psych evals for Police cadets could use some Fine Tuning- so does the Armed Services, plus a Good does of Ethics!
I have No doubt these recruiters are far more interested in enlisting those who lack real Patriotism and would enjoy getting a license to kill without fear of imprisonment or a death sentence.these Kids need psychological Help not a Uniform and a Gun, Or tank or bomber plane.
And at this point I must wonder Who the Military is Training these Recruits for on our Dollars? Don’t give Them money for a college education, give them an applicaiton for Blackwater. 99% Job Placement afterwards Ah? And what a deal fro Blackwater- free Training and direct recruitment for them- So helps the bottom line on Profit margins to skip that overhead cost Too!

This stupid posting mechanism cut off my headline.
I was asking what, exactly, is the point of so-called “counter-recruiters”?

...of so-called “counter recruiters”? This baffles me. Are they hoping the military will go away?
