Speaking at the United States Air Force Academy graduation ceremony in Colorado Springs on Wednesday, President Bush readied the Class of 2008 for their future in the military by making repeated references to “the Greatest Generation” and World War II—oh, and also by body-slamming graduates.
Rocky Mountain News:
“In the 20th century, air power helped make possible freedom’s victory in great ideological struggles with fascism and communism,” Bush said. “In those struggles, our nation faced evil men with territorial ambitions and totalitarian aims, who murdered the innocent to achieve their political objectives.
“Through a combination of military strength and national resolve, and faith in the power of freedom, we defeated these adversaries—and secured the peace for millions across the world.”
Bush said that in World War II, like today, defeating “hateful ideologies” required national power—including military might. Today, however, fighting men and women have at their disposal technology that makes it possible to wage war “with greater precision and greater humanity.”
“Our new enemies know they can’t defeat us militarily. So their strategy is to cause us to lose our nerve and retreat before the job is done,” Bush said. “They take advantage of the information age and the 24-hour news cycles, creating images of chaos and suffering for the cameras, in the hope that these images will horrify the American people and undermine resolve and morale here at home.

The scary part is our next generation of morons graduating from that military academy, who obviously think that their chimp-in-chief has either guts or brains.

I fail to see how George W. Bush can be called a loser. He has served 2 terms as President of the United States of America. If he is a loser, we the American citizens are less. Did we not put him in office? Have I been living in the twilight zone? Why is he still in office? Does his presidency fall under the PPA rule? In the words of a Saturday Night Live comedian in an excellent sketch… “You Order Shit, You Eat Shit”.

You’re right here Non Credo. Although, having finally made it through a good portion of my paper paper, the similarities here on the domestic front..the tactics and effects of the subject population of a totalitarian regime, are scary enough to make anybody take notice. At least I would hope that, but I’m not sure it’s happening.
I read somewhere that the more open a society is to begin with, (in reference to democratic forms of government) the more likely they are to be overwhelmed by such a coup. Both Germany and Russia were Constitutionally democratic societies, and Hitler at least, never officially abandoned the Weimer Constitution. He just totally disregarded it, and issued new laws every 5 minutes. The same duplicate bureaucracies exist..the ostensible government stays on a front to pretend normalacy, while the secret government proceeds with the agenda. It’s always an ‘us against them’ ideology, and so they always ‘create’ enemies.
Now it’s Iran, but of course Iran was included at the beginning of the plan. (Don’t forget the asshole’s ‘warning’ to the Iranian people from a few years ago). At least that’s what we can reasonably surmise from the PNAC and the work from Sy Hirsch since. I suspect a combination of unexpected outcomes and some resistence have delayed the process, but I’m terrified that they are still determined to see it through. I don’t honestly know what would prevent it now, aside from a non-compliant military, and that doesn’t seem likely.
Meantime, I still say the Hitler analogy is very much on the mark, just not the way that GW is presenting it. It is HE who has become the 21st Century Hitler, terrorizing us here at home, while he does the same thing to the rest of the world.

This little man has, finally, managed to disgrace the greatest generation of Americans and in the same assinine speech provide a context to compare his own regime to that of Hitler’s. This draft-dodging man has such a clueless speech writing staff that the irony of this evidently went right past them, and he is so far past mentally stable that he doesn’t even realize or care that the ‘evil men with territorial ambitions and totalitarian aims’ of this decade are himself and Cheney. I think the piece by Cyrena makes the point. He’s following in the footsteps of the fascist monster who ruined Germany and is ruining America in the process.

“The bible never says love your foe, as a matter of fact it orders you to destroy him and pray to the Lord for help in this!” - perhaps this understanding of the Bible is the reason we have so many Christians supporting Bush’s aggresive policies.
Luke 6:27-36
[27] “But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, [28] bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. [29] If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. [30] Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. [31] Do to others as you would have them do to you.
[32] “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ love those who love them. [33] And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ do that. [34] And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ lend to ‘sinners,’ expecting to be repaid in full. [35] But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. [36] Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Agreed.
I some times wonder if he and his writers sit in front of a big mirror when they create his speeches. When he describes the evil in a totalitarian regime, he’s really describing his own regime. I mean the man can’t possibly have a firm grasp on history!
Also, it’s important to remember he’s not getting a whole lot of invites to speak lately, so he has to get every bit of propaganda in when the opportunity presents itself.
Having made so many graduation rounds, I can say with a certain amount of confidence, the graduates weren’t paying any attention to what he said, even if he was the president. Their parents maybe, but not them.
Of course there is always the exception to the rule, when the speaker is so loved by the graduates they hang on every word, but that’s not Bush!
Someday they’ll remember the president was at their graduation. Whether or not that brings fondness, anger or just makes a good story depends on where they end up going and what they end up doing.
I can also say with a certain amount of confidence. When a kid makes the decision to go career in the military it rarely has anything to do with who’s president. Or, believe it or not whether or not we’re at war. There hopes and dreams are looking beyond the idiot kid jumping around on the podium.
And I can also say with a certain amount of confidence, being military does not mean being republican! That’s a lie perpetuated by the repubs.
The notion that the majority in the military always vote repub is another lie. A hard one to prove, because those who vote usually vote absentee. And until the 2000 election we always assumed they were counted.
But I have said before and I’ll say it again, the retiring officer [a democrat] who said to me following the 2000 election. “I will never know for sure if my vote has ever been counted.” Something he never thought about until Florida 2000.

Bush Distorts World War II History
Speech to Air Force Graduates
http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va& aid=9105
by Sherwood Ross
Global Research, May 28, 2008
George W. Bush may not be much of a president but his latest comments comparing his Iraq war to World War II indicate he is even less of a historian.
In a speech prepared for delivery today (May 28) to more than 1,000 graduates of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Bush links the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to postwar Germany and Japan six decades ago, the AP reports.
After World War II we helped Germany and Japan build free societies and strong economies (and) today we must do the same thing in Afghanistan and Iraq, Bush asserts, according to text released by the White House to AP. The flaw in this analogy is that it is Bush who is the aggressor in the Middle East, not the conquering liberator out to generously rebuild vanquished foes. Bush will go down in history with Germanys Hitler and Japans Tojo as a war-starter, not as anybodys redeemer. Besides, its hard to rebuild a country whose people keep shooting at your liberators.
Bushs America is not the America of FDR, a mind-our-own-business republic with a strong streak of isolationism that went to war only when attacked. Instead, Bush, the war-maker, lied to gain public support for his attack on Iraq just as Hitler lied to the German people when he attacked Poland.
After World War II, the peoples of Germany and Japan at least had the decency to acknowledge their responsibility for their slaughter of innocents. Yet Bush admits to no such crimes. Its as though he didnt start the war in Iraq that has turned the country into a killing zone and claimed perhaps 1 million civilian lives, wounded several million others, and forced two million from their homes, ad nauseum. It is as though he does not stoop to torture and murder.
Another tiny flaw in Bushs analogy is that where the exhausted German and Japanese publics welcomed the American post-war occupation, the people of Iraq have overwhelmingly tell pollsters they want America out.
And where the U.S. actively helped Japan and Germany rebuild their economies after World War II, Bush is out to plunder Iraqs oil reserves. He is, according to some reports, having the devils own time getting the Iraqi government to sign over their oil resources to Western oil companies at bargain prices.
~(we should also remember that our OWN economy and infrastructure has suffered under his fascist regime as much as the German and Japanese economies suffered. Theirs were rebuilt, ours continues to crumble)~
As for rebuilding, Bushs hand-picked, no-bid contractors, at best, have done shoddy work; billions of dollars for reconstruction have mysteriously disappeared; and Bush is now saying let the Iraqis pay for rebuilding their own country as if he wasnt responsible for making the war in the first place.
In his talk to the airmen, Bush said, These (rebuilding) efforts took time and patience, and as a result Germany and Japan grew in freedom and prosperity and are now allies of the United States. Yes, such close allies they refuse to commit any substantial force to the Iraq war. After all, their leaders know they will be driven from office if they do, just as Tony Blair was ousted by the British public.
International public opinion polls today show George Bush is about the most feared and unpopular man in the world, a man who has brought our prestige to an all-time low. His regime is the exact reverse of what America, and FDR, stood for in 1945. That he dares compare his rule with FDR shows him to be a master of only one thing: deceit.
~GWB has surpassed Hitler and others in this opinion. (the most feared and unpopular man in the world) if only because hes gotten away with it for so long.

The only hateful ideology is the one that believes that the world should be ruled under the fascist thumb of a single corporate entity. To see fit to quash religious, racial and cultural individuality is the greatest threat to mankind. The Romans tried to do it. They failed. The Nazis tried to do it. They failed. If American tries to do it, it and it’s allies shall fall as well.

Actually the wanna be dictator DID regurgitate a few pearls of wisdom, but I dont know if it was by accident or design, and so its questionable whether or not these young men and woman would necessarily have grasped at such an important event in their own lives.
And maybe just as well. His reference to the totalitarian structures of Nazism and Communism are revealing in the since that they have been the very models he and his puppeteers have followed in their attempts to destroy us and large portions of the rest of the world. So there is an irony there, and its a cruel one.
The antics are a side show, and its too bad the exercise didnt work out to slam his weasel bones right into the dirt at their feet. In one of these photos, he looks like a bad imitation of wolf in the fairy tale that threatens to huff and puff and blow everybodys houses down. Thing is, hes actually managed that, in a very real sense.
So, this is sort of a paradox in that its good these graduates were paying him no mind. But at the same time, too many of us (and maybe I should only speak for myself here) have possibly underestimated his danger to the world at large.

you know ... it was for the kids. Kids get a little crazy on graduation day. But like always the biggest baby on the block just had to try and steal the attention.
But he didn’t.
So lets not give it to him ...
Like the article said, the kids were looking back ... for mom and dad, maybe for the sweetheart. Bush was just the amusing diversion. And nobody listens to the speech. A few even fall asleep.
I seriously doubt a single one of them could tell you what he said. And it doesn’t matter anyway because what he said has as much value as anything he has ever said. ZIP!
Well except to those of us who keep track of the BS. But even that gets boring after a while.
I mean ... how refreshing would it be if the guy actually said something original?
Now THAT would be a news story!
All the same to Darin and Kevin [Rocky Mountain News]. Ya done good guys. Not easy making a graduation interesting news. Even [or maybe especially] when POTUS is there.
And to all you grads, congrats! This is YOUR day!
