Ex-Press Secretary Throws Bush Under the Bus

McClellan and Bush
White House / Eric Draper

Scott McClellan was one of George W. Bush’s most loyal aides, so it is surprising to learn that he savages the president and his administration in his new memoir. Among other bombshells, McClellan refers to the administration’s “propaganda campaign” to sell the war and accuses Karl Rove and Scooter Libby of meeting in secret during the Plamegate scandal in order to get their stories straight.

Politico:

Among the most explosive revelations in the 341-page book, titled “What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture of Deception” (Public Affairs, $27.95):

—McClellan charges that Bush relied on “propaganda” to sell the war.

—He says the White House press corps went too easy on the administration.

—He admits that some of his own assertions from the briefing room podium turned out to be “badly misguided.”

—The longtime Bush loyalist also suggests that two top aides held a secret West Wing meeting to get their story straight about the CIA leak case at a time when federal prosecutors were after them - and McClellan was continuing to defend them despite mounting evidence they had not given him the full facts.

—McClellan asserts that the aides—Karl Rove, the president’s senior adviser, and Lewis “Scooter” Libby, the vice president’s chief of staff - “had at best misled” him about their role in the disclosure of former CIA operative Valerie Plame’s identity.

The Whitehouse is puzzled???  McClellan at least had the integrity to come forth and admit what most Americans already knew about Bush & his GOP.  I’m not surprised at all to hear about this Bush, Cheney , Rove & GOP corruption that has screwed over this nation for the last 7 years.  Also...it will come as no surprise that the White Houses only response to the book will be to take cheap shots that accuse McClellan of being disgruntled or disingenuous.  Since they have no moral compass or integrity to stand on...and since the record of Republican corruption and treachery against the USA these last 7 years speaks for itself...they really do not have a leg to stand on in their defense against the content in McClellan’s book.  If Dana Perino and others loyal only to the Bush Crime Family and the Republican Party had any sense, they would simply keep their mouths shut and quit accusing McClellan of being a disgruntled person.  The more you complain about McClellan’s book, the more obvious you make your own sins against the USA.

What do Scott McClellan, Tony Snow and Dana Perino have in common?  They are perfectly willing to tell bald-faced lies to the entire American public in order to protect the president.  That’s the job description.  If you take the job, you take the description.  No fair saying later “Hey, sorry, the devil made me do it.” Maybe Scott ought to write about how the job is a bogus, misleading, non-journalist job.  It’s a black mark on any journalistic career.  If you become a press suckretary, especially for the likes of A-Holes like Bush/Cheney, you are kissing your integrity good-bye.

This reminds me somewhat of Robert McNamara’s all-too-late mia culpa, with one major difference: McNamara’s confessions came from an old man trying to make peace with himself well after the dust of Vietnam had settled; McClellan’s, on the other hand, comes from an operator trying to cover his posterior for a posterity coming together all to quickly. Whatever the motiviation, the details McClellan reveals tell us little we don’t already know about this administration. There will be more books and more revelations in the next few years. And I find each new revelation a little less surprising.

McLellan, in essence, has confessed to being an accessory to the war crimes of the administration.

One does not get to the position of press secretery to the president and actually get to profess being dumb and deceived by those feeding you information.  Scotty, made his bed, decided not to insist on telling the truth, and was key to the propoganda and coverup of the bush administration.  George Bush, can by no measure be considered and intellectual, however, he is not as dumb as he seems. The question the nation needs to wrestle with is the question of evil.  McCain’s problem is not that he is intellectually equall with the president, and lacks the intelligence of Hillary of Barrack, but that he shares the same evil quest of misguided national pride and expansion.  Scotty, your attempt to plea bargin does you little credit, and tells the thoughtful observer nothin we didn’t already know.

From the quotes I have seen on Scotty’s book the essence is that Poor Scotty and Poor Bush were lied to and manipulated into doing “bad things”. It looks suspiciously like shiftying their responsibility for cooperating with this process onto other villians, but don’t be mislead, there were and are still villians Scotty and Bush included.

Scott McClellan does not get to rehabilitate his reputation at his former bosses’ expense.  He needs to suck it up, understand that he made his bed and must lie down in it for the rest of his miserable existence.

Yes, what a revelation.  Bush is a liar and an amoral skank.  I think I’ll hang on to my $27.99 just the same.

Scotty,
When are you gonna figger it out? Chimpster tossed you under the bus because it was CONVENIENT for him and protected him.  Bush ALWAYS double-crosses his friends and allies. It’s his most consistent quality, even more than chasing every large bolus of money to give to his friends (U-Tex Endowment, Surplus, SocSec, No-Bids).

Bush started double-crossing friends long before 9/11 when he did it to Vincente Fox and Christine Todd Whitman.  He did it to EVERYONE along the way, including Libby, Rumsfeld, and even Karl Rove.

You were just another back to stab along the way.

Hard-hitting?  Hardly! He’s the guy at the top. It’s all his fault. If it’s deliberate, he’s a crook and deserves impeachment. If it’s not, he’s incompetent and should be declared “unable to fulfill the office” under the 25th Amendment.
