Carter Sheds Light on Israel’s NukesPosted on May 26, 2008
Israel’s nuclear arsenal is something of a mystery. In fact, it doesn’t officially have one, but it doesn’t officially not have one either (wink wink). Former President Jimmy Carter lifted the shroud of secrecy over the weekend when he revealed that “Israel has 150 or more” nukes. Carter was attempting to put Iran’s alleged nuclear shenanigans in perspective. It’s not entirely clear whether Carter based the figure on known estimates or super-secret presidential knowledge, but one would think the former leader of the free world would have insight superior to your average think tank.

Tutu condemns Israel 2006 ‘massacre’
Thu, 29 May 2008 14:53:39
UN envoy Archbishop Desmond Tutu has concluded his fact-finding mission to Gaza, condemning Israel’s 2006 ‘massacre’ of Palestinians.
At a news conference, Tutu said Israel’s contention that a technical fault caused the shells to hit two homes in the Gaza town of Beit Hanoun “fell short of accountability”.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate planned to present a report about the killing of 19 Palestinian civilians by Israelis to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva at a session in September.
The Israeli raid on Beit Hanun on November 8, 2006, was widely condemned by the international community for killing 19 civilians, including five women and eight children, in their homes.
“We are at the stage of shock ... by what we subsequently heard from the survivors of the November (2006) Beit Hanoun massacre”, Tutu said.
The South African cleric, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1985 for his non-violent struggle against apartheid, said a main aim of the visit was to “make recommendations to protect Palestinian civilians from further Israeli assaults”.
Tutu called on the Zionist regime to end a blockade of the Gaza Strip, saying the international community’s “silence and complicity, especially on the situation in Gaza, shame us all”.

Hey stephenL,
Wrong my friend. Selective amnesia. You seem to have forgotten that Carter ordered the rescue mission and it failed.
You also seem to forget that the neo-crazy fool Reagan who barely was awake in cabinet meetings had his campaign manager who later became head of CIA make a deal with Iran as to the timing of the release of the hostages.
You also seem to have amnesia and ignorance combined when you neglect to understand that Iran had no interest in releasing the hostages and help Carter get re-elected since Carter was viewed to have supported the Shah during the revolution by authorizing him to use force to put down demonstrations which led to massive death and casualties, hoping to quell the uprisings.
Also, another piece of ignorance and selective amnesia on your part, that Reagan was so tough that all the bad guys were scared of him, rong again my friend, history proves otherwise.
Since our zionist and imperialist mouth pieces have always claimed that Iran was behind the bombing of our marine barracks and embassy, french barracks and ..... then why didnt the tough and mighty neo-crazy Reagan whose administration was packed with such famous criminals wo were war crazed bomb Iran or directly take on their surrogates in Lebanon and finish the job?
But then again just like the chickens they actually were, they decided to run and get the hell out of Lebanon?
Such absurd and shallow rational that its almost a joke to hear people like you actually make such claims. But then again nothing surprises me when criminals are hailed as heros and peace makers and defenseless people who have nothing to defend themnselves with except rocks and stone and rudimentary weapons are portrayed as terrorists and a danger to peace.
What absurdity. Only in zionist / imperialist vocabulary and world such things exist!!!

ISRAEL, CARTER, THREAT ...
“Furthermore, Jimmy Carter is an idiot. He was a lousy President and he should keep his Pro-Islamic Anti-Israel mouth shout, and go back to growing peanuts.
====================================
I expected the hungry Zionist vultures to dive down at their favorite food, dead carrion! They only come in almost hysteric way when they find dead carrion related to Israel.
The matter of Israel’s nuclear arsenal is physically and metaphorically a heap of dead carrion that’s been spreading terrible smell since the sixties. Formal evidence leaked out in 1986 by the Israeli nuclear technician Mordechai Vanunu, who was imprisoned for a long time after his revelation.
As to Jimmy Carter’s mentioning this in conjunction with his talk about the wrong in focusing on Iran while ignoring Israel, he was only stating a matter of fact to show the hypocrisy of his own country and others about the issue of nuclear Iran.
Now, all decent people in the world know that Jimmy Carter was the best and most decent president the United States had in its recent history. He was genuinely a peace-loving individual who wanted the whole world to live in peace. That’s why he worked tirelessly to bring to Israel its only real period of peace by sponsoring the Egyptian-Israeli peace deal in 1977-1978. A situation that resulted in taking Egypt, the most powerful and populated Arab country, out of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Yet, since he published his book, “Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid” last year, he has been the target of venomous Zionist hate and bigotry campaign. Though this is so disturbing and ugly, it has some good aspects to it, as it shows the world how ungrateful fanatic Zionists can be. So, they are now biting the hand that fed them their first taste of peace in their short history.
Read the words of Lee which I quoted at the top of this post, and you will see what I mean!

If Israel is the leader in per capita income….why does the US provide the “obscene” amounts of aid to it? It would be logical to surmise that the largest “per capital” society need NOT accept charity but, perhaps, show some to those less fortunate.

I was going to post a comment until I saw all the hysterics on this story.
If Israel wants to harbor nuclear weapons, fine—but it’ll only lead to an escalation all across the mideast.
They’ll all blow each other up and that’ll be the end of story.

Iran has never threatened to attack Israel but Israel has threatened to attack Iran many times.
Iran has not attacked a neighboring country for hundreds of years but Israel has repeatedly attacked its neigbors so as to “defend” itself.
Israel’s own crimes are bad enough, but the crimes their powerful US lobby has gotten America to commit on their behalf are many times worse.
This evil entity and its international backers are the chief threat to world peace today.

Iran never threatened to wipe anybody off the face of the map. Read what they actually said as it is far more nuanced and has do with the Palestinian right to return issue. The disinformation on the threat was accepted by the Israel-controlled American media.
Support of Israel is not in America’s interest and the evil country that now exists is not the one referred to in the Old Testament.

Let us begin to note that President Carter is not the first U. S. President who played fast and loose with state secrets. In 1919 President Wilson furiously and publicly decried and rejected Italys territorial claims in the Mediterranean which Italy had been secretly promised by the Treaty of London. Wilson’s intransigence almost wrecked the Paris Peace Conference because the Italians threatened to walk out and did so transiently. It is of course also true that almost every diplomat already knew and that Leon Trotsky, the Soviet foreign commissar, had already published the full text of the London treaty.
Report thisLet us also remember that President Truman was not aware that Stalin knew that we had already exploded an atomic bomb at Los Alamos and that the Soviets were working on one of their own when he told Stalin in Potsdam that we, the U.S.A., now possessed a terrible weapon of mass destruction that we had unleashed on Japan. For four years Truman labored under the mistaken and dangerous delusion that he had a huge trump card in hand against Stalin, the bomb, because Trumans advisers had told him that the Soviets would not be able to have one of their own in many years, if ever. Stalin got his in 1949 which engendered gigantic headaches for Harry and strengthened Senator Joseph McCarty’s communist witch hunt
I therefore applaud President Carter for having rent the Israeli secrecy about its nuclear arsenal. That secrecy is against the interest of our own country because it impedes progress on nuclear non-proliferation (India, Pakistan, North Korea, Iran, and who knows which state is secretly trying today; the Saudis?) and the eventual reduction of nuclear weapons in the world.
It is interesting to note that all commentators, I heard it first from Wolf Blitzer a.k.a. ‘The Pits’, assumed immediately that Carter had obtained his information from the CIA when he was in the White House. Guesses, guesses, guesses as always. Who knows, maybe Olmert had informed him last week and had deliberately exaggerated the number of Israeli bombs to scare the bejabbers out of Ahmadinejad.

Howard, please stop this claim of how “Israel has left Gaza” when we ALL know that Gazans are 100% controlled by Israel, from their food, to their medical, to their water, to their electricity, and that it is one open-air prison where not a single Gazan has even the least control over their own ability to do ANYTHING!
So stop saying this stupid stuff! Israel hasn’t ‘left’ anywhere. And there isn’t a single solitary Arab in Israel who has full citizen rights! NOBODY other than Jews have those ‘rights’ in Israel. So stop with all of this propaganda!
This last part doesn’t even make sense. You claim that these ARABS overwhelmingly wish not to move to GAza or Syria or Egypt! Because…JEWS have been driven out of those countries!
Well Howard, we can understand why Arabs might not want to live in Gaza (for sure) or Egypt or Syria, (the US places for all of the torture renditions that we perform on Arabs and other Muslims) but why would it be because JEWS have been driven out of those countries? The ARABS don’t want to move to those places because the JEWS have been driven out?
Why the hell should they care about THAT? I think you gave yourself away again Howard.
Meantime, Israel is a threat to the WORLD, but particularly the Middle East, because they’re the only one with these dangerous nukes, and neurotic enough to use them!
Beacon of light my ass!

Nonsense that Israel is a threat ! What aggreassion or expansionism ? They left Gaza completely and rockets still arrive daily. Daily, even today. What country would put up with them ? Rockets and missles from Mexico or Canada into the U.S. ? Give us all a break, man.
What supremist ideology ? Arabs living as ciizens in Israel vote, get jobs, hold political offices, are nurses and teaches, and overwhelmingly wish not to move to Gaza or Syria or Egypt ! Jews in those countries have been driven out. Out.
Israel is not a danger to the planet. They are a beacon of light to the nations of the world.

What the hey. Israel does’t threaten to use their nukes, that is why they do not adverise ‘em. Iran threatens continually to obliterate Israel all the time. And means it. Iran is not even a neighbor and Israel does not and never has bothered Iran. but Iran needs a boogyman to distract their people.
But Israel has reason to believe nuts and wackos who want to take over the world. Has reason to be a litle parnoid.
So I hope the figure is wrong and Israel not only has more nukes than Pope Carter infers, but also has unanounced other weapons. More power to them.

Believe that fantasy about the Iranians giving up the hostages because they were afraid of Reagan. Bullshit!! Reagan’s people made a deal with the Ayatollahs to release the hostages. Less than five years later Ollie North, Reagan’s bagman flunky was delivering arms to the people Reagan loudly proclaimed he would never negotiate with.

It was Carter who got Sadat to sign the accord which nutralized almost a third of the arab nation, and subsequently became his death certificate. You should as a Jew, give credit to the man for guiding Israel and the US to the right path.

Stephen,
It really didn’t happen that way, so maybe you should do some historical study on the hostages, (and who took them, and why - find out all about the Shah, and who HE was working for as well) and how Regan worked out that ‘arrangement’ to make Carter look weak, and lose the election.
The reality is that Carter has more guts then any of your gun totin’ cowboys could ever dream of, and more integrity in his little toe than you could ever imagine.
Meantime, you’re right. Those Iranian STUDENTS took those hostages and held them for OVER a year, and eventually let them go. They didn’t have to leave their own nation to do it either, and so they didn’t go out a ‘capture’ a few thousand folks and lock them up in cages on Gitmo, and proceed to torture them for 6 plus years.
Do we call that strong?
Sorry I can’t feel the same respect for the ‘strength’ of Regan and all of his tricks. You ARE familiar with the Iran-Contra double deal, are you not?

He is now officially, also, a failure AFTER being president as well.
Iran understood how weak and foolish the far left philosophy was that guided Carter, the took 50 US hostages and held them for over a year, knowing Carter was too weak to spank them. When Reagan came to office Iran coughed them up because they knew Reagan would make them pay.
It’s that simple, that’s the way the middle east works. If they think you will create a terrible body count, they respect you. IF they think you are weak, they will disrespect you. Carter was weak, they disrespected him. Carter is still weak, now they use him.
