Can we finally drop this “heartland” bullshit when referring to states that are in the middle of this country.
I live in a state with the world’s (that’s the entire planet, not just our fair nation) seventh largest economy, a state that grows and distributes more edible fruits and vegetables than all of the so-called “heartland” states combined. We have more than 30 million residents; we are home to every major corporation in the world; we are home to the music/film/television industries; we are home to the world’s foremost technical giants, both private and corporate ... I could go on, but I’m sure you get the picture. Arkansas, Oklahoma, Indiana and the like are the heartland of this country if it’s a dying, plaque-stuffed overworked organ due to obesity and gluttony. Stop with the “heartland” bullshit, because that’s all it is. If you want corn to feed to cattle or to make high fructose corn syrup, then the supposed “heartland” is for you. Otherwise, it’s a silly, pandering term that describes no one or no place.
