Yet another round of ferocious weather pounded parts of Missouri, Oklahoma and nearby states Saturday, with tornadoes that reportedly killed at least 18 people just a week after deadly storms hit Arkansas.

AP via Breitbart.com:

At least 12 people were killed after severe storms spawned tornadoes and high winds across sections of southwestern Missouri, the State Emergency Management Agency said. Ten of the dead were killed when a twister struck near Seneca, near the Oklahoma border.

“There may be more—I hope not,” said SEMA spokeswoman Susie Stonner late Saturday night.

At least six people were killed earlier in the day as the tornado flattened the northeastern Oklahoma town of Picher, authorities said.

“They’re going over the hard-hit area and turning over everything and looking,” Stonner said of emergency workers’ search for victims and assessment of damage. “It’s hard to do in the dark.”

Can we finally drop this “heartland” bullshit when referring to states that are in the middle of this country.

I live in a state with the world’s (that’s the entire planet, not just our fair nation) seventh largest economy, a state that grows and distributes more edible fruits and vegetables than all of the so-called “heartland” states combined. We have more than 30 million residents; we are home to every major corporation in the world; we are home to the music/film/television industries; we are home to the world’s foremost technical giants, both private and corporate ... I could go on, but I’m sure you get the picture. Arkansas, Oklahoma, Indiana and the like are the heartland of this country if it’s a dying, plaque-stuffed overworked organ due to obesity and gluttony. Stop with the “heartland” bullshit, because that’s all it is. If you want corn to feed to cattle or to make high fructose corn syrup, then the supposed “heartland” is for you. Otherwise, it’s a silly, pandering term that describes no one or no place.
