Bolivian President Evo Morales (right) and Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera will both face a nationwide recall vote as wealthy Bolivians try to stymie Morales’ program for wealth redistribution and poverty reduction.

Evo Morales, the first indigenous president of Bolivia, will face a confidence vote in the next 90 days as opposition groups continue their push to remove him from power. The vote comes on the tail of last week’s unofficial and meaningless referendum for autonomy in which the wealthy state of Santa Cruz voted for greater independence from the federal government.

The BBC:

The people of Bolivia are to hold a vote of confidence in the rule of their leftist President, Evo Morales, as he struggles to enact radical reform.

Mr Morales, who has more than two years to run as leader, agreed to hold the referendum after the opposition-run upper house of parliament backed it.

The Senate has repeatedly challenged his government.

Citizens will vote within 90 days on whether he, his vice-president and nine governors should stay in office.

Evo Morales thinks that he is the elected leader of the Bolivian people. And that he can be candid, in his communication of his political, moral vision of the resurgence of Indiginous Peoples;who up till now had no voice on the world stage. He is entitled to that mantle of ethical, political leadership. It belongs to him!
The attacks on his legitimacy are being aided and abetted by money from various agencies of the U.S. Government. I have no proof, but that is the usual m.o. of subversion undertaken in our name.It has happened so frequently as to be a political commonplace. As a political commonplace you would think that reporters working for the L.A.Times might want to ask various sources for their story of March 13,2008 entitled “Morales, Govenors face recall”:The question might be asked: what are the sources of the money to finance this recall movement? Who,what, when, where, why are the pertinent journalistic questions. Is Sam Zell a neo-conservative or simply an opportunist hoping for a waiver from the FCC? Or is “Special to the Times”  under their byline an indemnification against critique?
