Israel is marking its 60th Independence Day, which began at sundown Wednesday, with a great sense of pride but also uncertainty about its future and doubts about prospects for peace with the Palestinians.

Israelis have begun celebrating their nation’s diamond anniversary with fireworks and public cheer. The Jewish state was founded shortly after World War II and has known almost constant conflict as well as remarkable growth in the decades since. Many Palestinians, who refer to the country’s founding as “the Catastrophe,” are preparing to mark the occasion with something less than delight.

BBC:

Israelis thronged Jerusalem’s streets as fireworks opened the celebrations on Wednesday, while an aerial display is planned over Tel Aviv on Thursday.

Israel declared itself an independent state on 14 May 1948, three years after the end of World War II and the death of six million Jews in the Holocaust.

But Palestinians know the foundation day as al-Nakba, or “the Catastrophe”.

As usual, you neo-nazis don’t understand irony.  But I’m sure that Fadel would LOVE to see every Jew in Israel slaughtered—as would you Non Credo, and everyone else on that list who sees the EXISTENCE of Israel as a sin and a corruption.

Israels rhetoric and saber rattling against Iran comes out daily.  They continue to try and sucker America into attacking Iran for them.

As to your claim that Iran has threatened “to wipe Israel off the map”:

http://www.mohammadmossadegh.com/news/rumor-of-the-century/

Hillarious at it is, you buy the Israeli (jewist) media hook, lie and sinker.

If Israel is such a great nation as you portray, why don’t you do us all a favor and move there and invent some more shit, or are you too busy spying and posting positive B.S. for them?

Louise, great post indeed and very imaginative parable that summarizes the whole situation!

If we really had freedom of speech in this sad land of ours, your parable could be expanded to a full length scenario for a play to circle the theaters of the world and tell the sad story of Palestine / Israel.

But alas! The thought-police will not allow this to happen, so you should be happy and content that your piece gets to be published in a non-mainstream media outlet, and a score of people might pay attention to its merit and the truths it conveys.

Despite my pessimism, I still believe that your piece could be made into a full length theatrical production, then we might find a way to publish it. I am willing to contribute a little within my means if you have the motivation and time to pursue this worthy endeavor. Please keep me posted!

So one day in Podunk Middle America comes a knock on the door. The resident is greeted by a group of military attired, gun packing guys with very official looking papers.

“You have twenty four hours to gather your belongings and vacate your property.” You are told. “Why?” You ask. Thinking perhaps there is some great natural disaster coming, like a tsunami or a growing sink-hole. Like these “officials” have concern for your safety.

No. They inform you your house will be leveled in twenty four hours. Your property and the property of everyone else in Podunk Middle America will be cleared for construction of a new settlement.

“You are going to build me a new house?” You ask.

Only to discover the new house will be built for someone else. Someone from another country. Someone who doesn’t know you, or speak your language or even acknowledge you rights of existence.

Incredulous you explain you and your ancestors have lived on the land since the beginning of Podunk history. Unmoved, the officials explain YOUR land actually belongs to those strangers from across the world, because many thousands of years ago, their God said so.

Now how can you fight God?

So you gather what you can, being careful to take the LEGAL TITLE to your land, so you can re-claim it when the insanity is over, and you leave. Not sure where you are going, but you leave.

Now a Howard might say you left happily, because you recognized the strangers right to take what is yours away from you. That it wasn’t stealing, or in any way unjust or illegal. But sixty years later, when your descendents are still hanging on to that title, living in a refugee camp somewhere, and trying hard not to cry every time they hear of another village in your land leveled for the good of the strangers, you wonder.

Of course the displaced Jews were not relocated to Podunk Middle America, cause America didn’t want them.

Come to think of it, nobody else did either, but that’s another story.

Anyhow, just in case you have enough empathy and compassion to put yourselves in the painful shoes of those Palestinians who were kicked out of their homes and kicked off their land, try to imagine how that felt. Then try to tell yourself what a great little Nation State Israel has become.

Sixty years and still the few remaining Palestinians are being kicked out of their homes and off their land. And imprisoned and killed and the world that didn’t want the displaced Jews looks on.

Sixty years. Has it actually been sixty years? Sixty years and nothing has changed, except the harassment and the murder of the Palestinians has only gotten worse. Maybe those “Israelis” are really slow learners, eh?

Howard,

Thanks for dragging up the same info you have been posting for eons. Would be nice if you could come up with some fresh and original ideas, then one might feel inclined to actually engage in some meaningful debate, oh well.

Oh, and thanks for the chuckle! That last line ...

“Israel is the only liberal democracy in the Middle East.”

Um-huh ... “liberal democracy” as defined by who? smile

What could have been one of the coolest places on the Planet is today a self-inflicted Global disgrace.

Humility eludes us, denial becomes us and trouble follows us - for some this essential lesson, this universal identification is still out of reach.

For all that Israel has they remain spiritually impoverished, intoxicated w/a sense of entitlement that seals their very selfish and paranoid motivations, so fortified w/denial Freud himself couldn’t cut it w/a chainsaw.

According to Non-Credo, Fadel, Cyrena, Patrick Henry, PT, Bubba and Truthreader13 all have the ideal solution to the “Israel Problem”:  Help Iran develop nuclear weapons and have them wipe out all those nasty Jews in one cleansing sweep.  This is clearly the Will of God and Marxist Economic Inevitability.

Make sure you get the kids so none survive.

That’s the new “humane” model.  Kill all the Jews.
That’s how to have peace.  Nothing as peaceful as a dead man.

Funny.  It sounds just like an old one that’s been around for thousands of years.

11.  Israel has the highest ratio of university degrees to the population in the world.

12. Israel produces more scientific papers per capita than any other nation by a large margin — 109 per 10,000 people — as well as one of the highest per capita rates of patents filed.

13.  In proportion to its population, Israel has the largest number of startup companies in the world. In absolute terms, Israel has the second largest number of startup companies after the US (3,500 companies mostly in hi-tech).

14.  With more than 3,000 high-tech companies and startups, Israel has the highest concentration hi-tech companies in the world — apart from the Silicon Valley, US.

15. Israel is ranked #2 in the world for venture capital funds right behind the US.

16. After the United States and Canada, Israel has the largest number of NASDAQ listed companies.

17. Israel has the highest average living standards in the Middle East. The per capita income in 2000 was over $17,500, exceeding that of the UK.

Howard, it would take a post about Israel to “smoke you out”.

The list you have repeatedly shown fails to mention the stolen technology by the Israelis to achieve these Jewish advances and every one has security flaws and “backdoors” meant to manipulate.

El Al racially profiles, something the U.S. government fails to do when they ask granny to take off her shoes.

Half of the 100 billion comes from the rest of the world which Israel blackmails with “anti sematism”.

Until such time as Israel is a signatory of the IAEA and other world inspection bodies, I don’t blame any of its neighbors for wanting nukes as a quid pro quo against Israeli aggression.

11. Using a combination of money, intrigue, media control and blackmailing, tiny Israel controls the political-military machine in the greatest superpower of the world to the point that one can dare to say that Israel = political-military America or political-military America = Israel!

That’s only because Israel has the ability to adopt modern science in a civilized, forward-looking society.  As a result, they have modern weapons and warfare techniques, which makes them more efficient at killing their attackers.

If the palestinians, and most all other arabs and persians, would join us in the modern world and let go of their stone-age ideologies, maybe the field would be a little more level.

What do you expect when one group is throwing stones, the other using automatic weapons and night vision goggles?

Its got nothing to do with who is right - more about who has the more modern culture and society.

Same with leaving Lebanon and then Hezbollah (not Lebanon ) attacks Israel starting their proxy war in ‘06.

A sad day for the Palestinian natives for what through terrorism, militarism and dispossession has become modern Israel. And they have the audacity to celebrate!

Only colonialist America who did the same to the natives of America will have an affinity with Israel, because both entities were established at the misery of others.

And if you lost the sense of basic humanity and justice, you can join in the party and get drunk with theirs and yours false glories!
