Hitchens Asks the $3-Trillion McCain Question

All right, people, it’s high time someone dealt squarely with this question: Does John McCain have anger-management issues? Monday brought word on this potential problem, the Republican Party’s sword of Damocles, from provocateur Christopher Hitchens, who dares to ask “whether [McCain’s] elevator goes all the way to the top.”

Slate:

However, we are still obliged to ask ourselves whether the senior senator from Arizona is a brick short of a load or, as heartless people in England sometimes say, a sandwich or two short of a picnic. Because “anger,” make no mistake about it, is the innuendo for instability or inadequacy. What if McCain doesn’t really have both oars in the water or is either too tightly wrapped or not tightly wrapped enough?

When did Chris stop smokin those Taliban grown orchids?. Comin down on Gramps McCain as soon as the man informed the whole world that he is Hamas’ worst nightmare.

Those militants in that apartheid compound are poised to take over Israel and the US within a matter of months if he is not elected. Besides as he is known for his banter as to why Chelsea Clinton is so ugly. When the listener bites and asks why he grinningly replies cause her daddy is Janet Reno.

Nevertheless and because of the esteem he is held in by Joe Lieberman as well as the Israel amen corner his tenure as President of the US can only be marked with the same ole same old. Regardless of temper tantrums or nasty jokes. And that must be kinda comforting to guys like Chris who cheered for that cakewalk into Iraq. But then Hitchens may have turned.

I think you had better do some research on Mr McCain. So far everything I’ve read points to a now Demented Jackass that shouldn’t be running a corner snowball stand let alone the presidency. I’ve read reports from reliable sources that he A) soils his clothing B) Talks to no-one C) Has no clue as to what the differences in rank are in the US Army are etc etc etc. He really needs anger management classes, and Depends, and maybe some Geritol, but he does not need access to the presidency. He is simply “Out Of Control” and just another Iluminati puppet. I say “Head for the Nursing Home”.

Amen desert dude.
  PTSD amplified.
Among your “colleagues,” do you know any long term POWs who don’t have to struggle with it day to day?
I thank you for speaking out, and being humble.
Vietnam vets can have a very strong voice in this campaign. The machine wants to use his “war hero” status as an asset. It is out of turn for others to say it is otherwise, BUT..if vets come out and say that such a situation is damaging to the psyche, especially POW vets…then the McCain campaign has a problem and we will have one less.

In a word, it is greed.

Naked, all-consuming greed that blinds humanity to the common good.

It is getting so out of control now as this disease progresses throughout the world.

We can never be satisfied with what we have. Reference ExxonMobil, ADM, Walmart, Mcdonald’s, etc. etc, etc,

I’d be a lot more impressed if this piece did not come from the same Christopher Hitchens who supported invading Iraq in 2003.

Are we in America so masochistic that we would elect another Republican that has no intent on talking just bombing?  In our world, the world of the sane and just, there must be someone who fits the bill of President.  Yet we continue to nominate and elect those people who are not only unworthy, but also so unbalanced, that they are a danger to themselves and the rest of the world.  Wake up, America!  Do not give the loonies the keys to the kingdom of nuclear arms and weapons of mass destruction.  We, the world cannot afford another, person who will be the “decider” as president. There are so many problems that need to be fixed, that we have to have people in office that can talk to each other and the “enemy.”

One of Hitch’s finest pieces, a spark of sheer brilliance.

If McCain can only control his anger when situations are tightly controlled by his “handlers”, he shouldn’t be leading a boy scout troop, much less a country with more bombs than the rest of the world combined.

His is not “righteous” anger, it’s inappropriate anger, anger at not being able to control everything and everybody. You really don’t want this guy answering the phone at 3 a.m.

How can any person endure imprisonment as an injured POW and come out unscathed. . . he is either a Saint or a human with many symptoms of PTSD. Another post above goes through several excellent observations of this persons PTSD identity.

He is just another front puppet for War,Inc. that can fall back on “I was a POW” as his holy water to bath the doubters with.

I am speaking as a veteran with PTSD that served 3 1/2 years in Vietnam so I am speaking from a position of respect for the man’s service but absolute distain for the man’s policy! I wholly believe he is not fit to lead America into the future in any way other than more warfare and expansion of our militaristic state of occupation at the cost of our civilian infrastructure.

If we truly want PEACE in our lifetime then McCain is not the candidate to choose!

PEACE by Popular Demand!

Who wants a fellow with no emotion or feelings; this guy has more class than most;  suffered more adversity than most by a large margin.

Me wants no mislquist.  Media can make or break a candidate.  No softee for me no matter how much the media looks for false adjectives to a label someone with.  Just like the label of a high “temper”

Goodness gracious….hope he has one, indeed !

Republicans appear poised to offer America a candidate who has Post-traumatic Stress Disorder.
This poses a huge danger, because McCain could then re-enact the trauma of his plane crash, capture, and torture by means of the nuclear weapons America has available.
McCain appears to meet all criteria for PTSD as listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, the bible of psychiatry and psychotherapy.
Criterion A:  McCain experienced events that threatened him with death, and he responded with intense fear and helplessness.
Criterion B: McCain appears to have recurrent, distressing recollections and dreams of his plane crash and torture that appear to motivate his warlike actions and his backing for the military.  He also appears to act as if the traumatic events are recurring.  He is exposed to external cues that resemble the event (the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan), which provokes intense psychological distress in him.
Criterion C: McCain seems to be detached from people, and he has a restricted range of emotion (anger and rage are his only emotions), and he seems unable to experience love.
Criterion D: McCain appears hypervigilant and to have an exaggerated startle response in that he’s utterly focused on what he perceives as danger to the exclusion of all other possibilities.
Criterion E:  This disturbance has persisted for over 30 years.
Criterion F: This disturbance causes clinically significant impairment in social and occupational functioning.
The biggest danger to America is McCain’s significant impairment in occupational functioning as evidenced by his comment “Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.”
The Republicans appear to be the party of mental illness.  President Bush clearly has Narcissistic Personality Disorder.  Now the party is poised to offer another seriously mentally ill candidate.  The choice the nation faces is not between a Republican and a Democrat, but rather between a sane person (both Hillary and Barack appear mentally healthy) and a crazy man.
McCain needs to be swift-boated about his mental illness.  The nation needs to know that McCain is mentally incompetent to be president because he suffers from untreated PTSD

^ then what good are you truthdig?  Sure, my post has nothing to do with McCane (pun intended) I and a few other posters are waiting for a thread regarding the food crisis, the friggen economy; something relevant to the real life in America and the world!  Tell us why the stock market is going up as the economy is sinking; tell us why rice has tripled in price in the last month; tell us why the fed has done the “right thing” bailing out the criminally irresponsible banks and lending institutions.  Tell us what is going on in our world.  As important as this election is (not) we need to understand the thing that is happening in the world at large.  If you cannot do this then you are a worthless I-net rag worth no more than a worthless printed rag called a newspaper!  Truthdig has sunk to a level of mediocrity worthy of Fox News.  Change or die.

LetÂ’s see McCain gets into Annapolis due to his father and grandfather being Admirals.  McCain finishes in the last of his class.  Pretty close to the same story of the current president that got us into this mess.

What an arbitrary column.  Sure all the candidates could benefit from some serious pyscho-analysis.  Their ethics (if they ever had any) went off the tracks a long time ago when they sold out dollars.  They’re not delusional.  Just schizophrenic and in denial.  That’s why they age so fast after they’re in office.  Their noses get longer, and their hair turns white.  McCain is already there so he doesn’t have anything to worry about.

The result of McCain successfully passing Anger Management would be identical to Bush having an anusectomy.

it kills me that its taken this long for someone to ‘dare ask’ about mccain’s obvious short fuse.

hasn’t anyone observed in any debate, or question period where he faces any topic he doesn’t like, how he gets that strained grin where it looks like every muscle in his face is going to pop and his teeth are so tightley clenched together they look like they’re going to explode?  he had a lot of those great moments when romney was still in the race, painful to watch, and quite possibly painful also for him.

His handlers must have to work overtime with him in trying to keep him from exploding, and i thought g-dubs handlers had a hard job!  i have to admit, for entertainments sake i’m hoping that he has a PTSD flashback in the middle of a large televised debate causing him to mistakes his opponent for charlie, go into attack mode, and try to strangle them, only to fail because his hands are to small to fit all the way around their neck.  that would be funny.

It’s sad.

McCain’s so senile he forgets to take his Midol when he feels a PMS attack coming on. Which isn’t too bad when he just punches a Senator or two, hell, all Senators deserve that. Or when he goes all mysogynistic and calls his wife a ‘dumb c**t’, or gets his foot caught kicking the JuJube vending machine when it gives him the wrong change.

But Jeez, as president?

What if he beat the s**t out of Sarkozy and Berlesconi’s wives or mistresses? Or pissed in the egg flower soup at a formal Chinese dinner?

Or nuked California because it’s vote for him was un-unanimous?
