The Wall Street Journal is reporting that CBS News is likely to part ways with its evening news anchor, Katie Couric, who earns about $15 million a year. Consistently in last place among the networks, CBS has been under pressure to right the ship, and was even reported to have considered outsourcing some news operations to CNN. CBS says no such plan is in the works.

Wall Street Journal:

After two years of record-low ratings, both CBS News executives and people close to Katie Couric say that the “CBS Evening News” anchor is likely to leave the network well before her contract expires in 2011—possibly soon after the presidential inauguration early next year.

Ms. Couric isn’t even halfway through her five-year contract with CBS, which began in June 2006 and pays an annual salary of around $15 million. But CBS executives are under pressure to cut costs and improve ratings for the broadcast, which trails rival newscasts on ABC and NBC by wide margins.

as i said mensa, if you can’t compete, please, please don’t try.

you are witless, boring, inane, and just plain not worth the time.

if you are so affected by my putdowns of you, if you feel so outclassed by someone who is obviously more intelligent than you, go out and get yourself a literary tutor. in the meantime, just go away.

you are boring me, and the rest of the literate members of this board.

I know I come across rough, gruff and out spoken but do I need to label my comments sarcastic, facetious, or cynical? Lighten up some? I can, but concerns of a vegged out population, media control that severely restricts information has me very concerned about this country and the world. Waiting until November to see the changes in not encouraging to me either though I hope is will bring the right changes.
Conversing with people like you helps in that I know others are just as concerned and can articulate better than me.

Do not despair, poor Katie, local cable stations in Fresno, Boise, and Kalamazoo are seeking to replace their part-time student weather-persons.
You may be approaching the light at the end of your tunnel, for which those of us ex-CBS news-viewers give thanks.

So CBS (slowly) came to it’s senses. The prevalent rumor that she will take Larry King’s place on CNN has merit, only a bit of make-up and no one would know the difference, but that CNN has sunk so low is unthinkable.
Much more likely is the possibility, that in a rating-inspired cost-cutting move, Barbara Walters is going to offer her a junior-advocate position on THE VIEW, replacing both Sherri and Elizabeth, since Katie’s witless twittiness combines the intellect of Sherri and the obnoxity of Elizabeth.

i for one will not be sorry to see her go. i never did understand her appeal. and then to hear about all the diva like, ruthless behavior she exhibted to her collegues and potential competition, well, it seems like what goes around, comes around.

bye bye Katie. it’s back to cable access for you!

Just give me something-something I can use
People love it when you lose,Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I dont have to be clear. We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who
Comes on at five
She can tell you bout the plane crash with a gleam
In her eye
Its interesting when people die-
Give us dirty laundry
