With no bathroom and only her shoe for a pillow, 38-year-old Mexican undocumented immigrant Adriana Torres-Flores was “apparently forgotten” in a Fayetteville, Ark., courthouse holding cell for four days.

The incident, which raises questions about the state’s treatment of immigrants, will lead to an official state investigation.

The New York Times:

A woman was locked for four days in a tiny holding cell in a northern Arkansas courthouse, forgotten by the authorities and left without food or water, the local Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday.

The woman, Adriana Torres-Flores, 38, a longtime illegal immigrant from Mexico, slept on the floor with only a shoe for a pillow, and with nothing to drink except her own urine, The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported. There was no bathroom in the cell.

A bailiff had apparently forgotten that he placed Ms. Torres-Flores, a mother of three, in the cell last Thursday, and simply left her in the empty courthouse, in Fayetteville, over the weekend, said the chief deputy of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Jay Cantrell. A snowstorm meant that there were far fewer people than usual working at the courthouse on Friday.

Re: andrushka:

Don’t put too much stock in what “UNREGISTERED Truthseeker” and “UNREGISTERED Dan” since most likely they are one in the same. (notice the post times)  Racists, right wingers and plain ol’ vicious nasties will post UNREGISTERED several times using different screen names to make it appear that many people think the way this ONE LONELY ol’ soul does.  In fact, statistics show they don’t.

It’s terrible what they’ve done to this woman, I hope she sues them and uses the money to throw the racists out of America.

@Dan: Even if this woman is an illegal immigrant, do you have to use such poor language? BTW, the same applies to Truthseeker. Is she a criminal, a thief to deserve (unwillingly?) to be forgotten in a tiny cell for 4 days without food nor water?

I think you’re right DennisD. The bailiff is probably a judge by now, and if they think THIS will lead to ‘an official state investigation’ then they should quit drinking the water too.

It’s ARKANSAS for Christ’s sake! And if we can’t even get ‘an official state investigation’ on the events of 9/11, there ain’t no way in hell anybody would believe that an investigation is gonna happen here.

This is an undocumented, illegal immigrant that pays absolutely 0 taxes and steals money out of our circulation, and we’re supposed to feel bad for her?  Are we supposed to accommodate her with our tax money?  It’s bad enough that we need to spend money to deport her ass.  Strengthen the borders, and ensure that legal immigrants are awarded for their troubles, and show illegals the door.

“The incident, which raises questions about the state’s treatment of immigrants, will lead to an official state investigation.”

I think this story just gave the answer to any questions that might be raised. The bailiff has probably been made a judge by now.

Well at least that’s one illegal freeloading immigrant that didn’t sponge off hardworking Americans for just a few days.
