Aid Groups Slam Gaza BlockadePosted on Mar 5, 2008
A coalition of human rights and development groups has condemned Israel’s blockade of Gaza as the worst humanitarian crisis the territory has suffered since 1967. The Israeli government has defended the blockade as a necessary strategy against rocket attacks, a claim the aid groups reject.

‘Israelis won’t negotiate on the flowers to be used at their funeral’ http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/latestnews/39Israelis-won39t—negotiate-on.3854369.jp
ISRAEL yesterday defended its blockade of Gaza as it began a lobbying campaign in Scotland, claiming the effect on inhabitants of the troubled zone was no worse than the plight of German civilians during British bombings in the Second World War.
Its ambassador, Ron Prosor, said Israel was “a democracy under fire”...... His comments came after more than 20 Jews from Scottish Jews for a Just Peace signed a letter calling on Israel to enter ceasefire talks with Hamas. Mr Prosor angrily rejected their call, describing those who believed in negotiations with Hamas as “smartarses”....

One of the students, Yitzhak Dadon, reportedly shot the gunman twice before he was finally killed by an off-duty Israeli army officer, who had gone to the school after hearing gunfire.

Well said, Lefty !
I don’t think we gave supplies and food to the Germans and the Japanese when they declared war on us and we went off to battle.
Let Egypt, Jordan (which is 85% palestinian already ),Iran, Saudi Abrabia, or Morocco take care of this wefare state called Gaza. Israel left 2 years ago. Certainly they do not want to go back all the time except that wackos send rockets, not workers into Israel. So they are forced to return.
Report thisMaybe the European Union will take full responsibility. Good idea, except that the Gazans are brothers to Egypt. So Egypt is the best idea yet. Shucks, they ruled it as part of their country until 1967 !!

I find this situation pretty sad and helpless. While other refugees around the world always manage to find a way to settle themselves either in a new country or make do with the situation they have, the so called ‘palestinian’ people have managed to be kept by their wonderful leaders as refugees all this time, purely as a political ploy to destroy the state of Israel. You notice that there has never been any actual stopping on the part of these palestinians to attack and destroy Israel. They refuse to remove from their constitution the call to wipe out Israel.
Any opportunity they are given to make good for themselves, they destroy and try to gather more weapons for war. Any opening of the fence or loosening of restriction on entry to Gaza does not bring humanitarian aid, but rather more missiles and guns. Why should Israel let down their guard? How would is suit them to allow Hamas to attack them unfettered? As you can see, from the most recent attack, they will seek out to destroy the most vulnerable of Israeli’s if they can, school children, pedestrians, people riding a bus, seminary students. The only reason there aren’t more attacks on a regular basis is because Israeli intelligence is intercepting attacks on an unending basis.
I truly feel bad for innocent people in Gaza who are pawns and puppets of their leaders in their war to destroy Israel, but at this point, they have been convinced that Israel is the enemy.
I had a small hope after Israel pulled out of Gaza that they would actually make something for themselves, but that wasn’t to be, war is what they want.

Palestinians distribute sweets in celebration of Jerusalem terror attack as Hamas promises ‘this is only the beginning’

Gaza’s streets filled with joyous crowds of thousands on Thursday evening following the terror attack at a Jerusalem rabbinical seminary in which eight people were killed.
In mosques in Gaza City and northern Gaza, many residents went to perform the prayers of thanksgiving.
Armed men fired in the air in celebration and others passed out sweets to passersby.
Hamas issued a statement saying the group “blesses the (Jerusalem) operation. It will not be the last,’’ Hamas said in a statement.
An Islamic Jihad spokesman Abu Ahmed told Ynet, “We welcome this heroic act and strengthen the hands of those who carried it out. This is only the first of many such actions the Palestinian people are planning.”
The spokesman, a member of the organization’s military wing the al-Quds Brigades said, “Those who carried out the attack have brought great pride and raised the heads of the Palestinians.”

Poll: More Americans are pro-Israeli
New Gallup survey reveals Israel is one of five countries Americans feel most favorably about; Palestinian Authority ranks near bottom along with Iran, North Korea
Published: 03.06.08
WASHINGTON - Americans are decidedly more pro-Israeli these days, at least according to a new poll published on Thursday by the Gallup Organization. Gallups survey data revealed that 71% of Americans look favorably upon the State of Israel, a rise of some 8% from last years figures.
These figures represent an all-time high in terms of support for Israel, rivaled only by data compiled during the first Gulf War in 1991, when a staggering 79% of Americans polled indicated that they support the State of Israel. This was in large part due to the restraint exhibited by Israel in contending with repeated Scud missile attacks from Iraq on its civilian centers.
Which countries are Americans most partial to? The Gallup poll, which asked respondents to rank their attitude regarding 22 countries worldwide, revealed that while Israel and France have made the greatest strides with the American public, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany and Japan are most popular with Americans, with an approval rating of nearly 80%.
Conversely, Iraq, the Palestinian Authority [Ekdar’s note: “Palestinian Authority” is not a country], Iran and North Korea are least popular with the American public, with only 20% of Americans indicating that they support these countries.
Palestinian Authority frowned upon
The Gallup data revealed that Americans look favorably upon 10 countries in total world wide. Israel was fifth among them, with an approval rating of 71% overall. First on this list was Canada with an approval rating of 92%, followed by the United Kingdom (89% approval), Germany (82%), and Japan (82%).
Following Israel on this list are India and France with a 69% approval rating, South Korea with a 60% approval rating, and finally Mexico with a 58% approval rating.
The Palestinian Authority is also decidedly unpopular with the American public, with only 14% of Americans stating that they supported the PA.
Israels Ambassador to Washington Salai Meridor, said in response to the Gallup data that this is yet another indication of the strong bond shared by Israel and the American people.
The friendship between our two countries is especially critical now at days as both our countries wage a prolonged and drawn out battle against terror.

‘US plot against Hamas’ revealed - The US plotted to overthrow the democratically elected Hamas government in the Palestinian territories, documents obtained by Al Jazeera reveal. One of the documents appears to show that Washington tried to persuade Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president and leader of Fatah, to remove Hamas from power.
One document, dated March 2007, states “the plan will enable the Palestinian leadership to be more credible in the eyes of Israel and the others”. But, when that plan failed, the US set up an operation to fund Fatah fighters and drive Hamas out….
Revealed: the US plan to start a Palestinian civil war - United States officials including President George W. Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice participated in a conspiracy to arm and train Contra-style Palestinian militias nominally loyal to the Fatah party to overthrow the democratically-elected Hamas government in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, an investigative article in the April 2008 issue of Vanity Fair has revealed.
The allegations of such a conspiracy, long reported by The Electronic Intifada, are corroborated in Vanity Fair with confidential US government documents, interviews with former US officials, Israeli officials and with Muhammad Dahlan, the Gaza strongman personally chosen by Bush.
The article, by David Rose, recounts gruesome torture documented on videotape of Hamas members by the US-armed and funded militias under Dahlan’s control. Hamas had repeatedly alleged such torture as part of its justification for its move to overthrow the Dahlan militias and take full control of the interior of the Gaza Strip in June 2007…. http://electronicintifada.net/v2/article9366.shtml

The Gaza Bombshell
By David Rose
Vanity Fair
April 2008 Issue
After failing to anticipate Hamas’s victory over Fatah in the 2006 Palestinian election, the White House cooked up yet another scandalously covert and self-defeating Middle East debacle: part Iran-contra, part Bay of Pigs. With confidential documents, corroborated by outraged former and current US officials, David Rose reveals how President Bush, Condoleezza Rice, and Deputy National-Security Adviser Elliott Abrams backed an armed force under Fatah strongman Muhammad Dahlan, touching off a bloody civil war in Gaza and leaving Hamas stronger than ever.
“A Dirty War”
The Al Deira Hotel, in Gaza City, is a haven of calm in a land beset by poverty, fear, and violence. In the middle of December 2007, I sit in the hotel’s airy restaurant, its windows open to the Mediterranean, and listen to a slight, bearded man named Mazen Asad abu Dan describe the suffering he endured 11 months before at the hands of his fellow Palestinians. Abu Dan, 28, is a member of Hamas, the Iranian-backed Islamist organization that has been designated a terrorist group by the United States, but I have a good reason for taking him at his word: I’ve seen the video.
It shows abu Dan kneeling, his hands bound behind his back, and screaming as his captors pummel him with a black iron rod. “I lost all the skin on my back from the beatings,” he says. “Instead of medicine, they poured perfume on my wounds. It felt as if they had taken a sword to my injuries.”
On January 26, 2007, abu Dan, a student at the Islamic University of Gaza, had gone to a local cemetery with his father and five others to erect a headstone for his grandmother. When they arrived, however, they found themselves surrounded by 30 armed men from Hamas’s rival, Fatah, the party of Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas. “They took us to a house in north Gaza,” abu Dan says. “They covered our eyes and took us to a room on the sixth floor.”
The video reveals a bare room with white walls and a black-and-white tiled floor, where abu Dan’s father is forced to sit and listen to his son’s shrieks of pain. Afterward, abu Dan says, he and two of the others were driven to a market square. “They told us they were going to kill us. They made us sit on the ground.” He rolls up the legs of his trousers to display the circular scars that are evidence of what happened next: “They shot our knees and feetfive bullets each. I spent four months in a wheelchair.”
Abu Dan had no way of knowing it, but his tormentors had a secret ally: the administration of President George W. Bush.
