Gates Ponders Delaying Iraq DrawdownPosted on Feb 11, 2008
Defense Secretary Robert Gates says he’s considering delaying this summer planned reduction of U.S. troops in Iraq in order to look into how the drawdown would impact security, an approach also supported by Gen. David Petraeus.

More of the insanity really, in actually discussing where or not (and he won’t) stop something before it’s even begun.
He’s talking about ‘pausing’ a draw down of troops. So, we just twist the words around to say that the escalation that was initiated over a year ago, (which has only made things worse, killed more people, destroyed more of the globe, and wasted billions more dollars) will continue.
That’s all he’s saying here. We knew that the ‘surge’ was really an escalation, and all he’s saying is that he’s gonna maintain it. Just like Viet Nam, he’ll just keep sending troops in, and they’ll die, or be wounded, and they’ll just send more. (even the wounded ones will be sent back, since that’s already happening).
So, this stopping the pause is an oxymoron, and I’m sick of this shit, as if we don’t know what the deal is.

The notion of Gates or anyone else in this fatal administration actually “pondering” something is ridiculous. Gates will do as he is instructed by Bush. Forget about representing the American people - just get in line with Petraeus - or get out!

Ya know of course, (and this may be a repeat comment) if we’d had the draft long ago, (like before this war began, or even immediately after the invasion) there wouldn’t be a war on Iraq going into it’s 6th year…
Quite simply, the US population would never have allowed it. In other words…“Not MY kids”....
Now of course I’d agree that it would at least prompt the debate, so that EVERYONE knows the consequences. Right now, there are still too many Americans that have reminded aloof to those consequences, willfully or otherwise.
And, much of the anti-war sentiment that has come about, is NOT as a direct concern about the numbers of lives that continue to be lost, and all of the blood being shed for oil, but rather because of what it’s costing us in money. But, look how long it’s taken folks to figure THAT out.
So yeah, there SHOULD be a debate, but hey…it’s been 6 years, and debate has remained virtually shut down, seeing as we have this state controlled media that suppresses everything. Big difference from the days of Vietnam, when this information was right there for all to see on their TV’s, and we had real journalists. They are a dying breed now.
