Economy Takes Priority in Bush’s Last State of the Union Speech

Sometimes it’s useful to let a story’s own lead speak for itself. Take, for example, the doozy of a question that opens Sheryl Gay Stolberg’s New York Times article about Bush’s economic focus in Monday’s State of the Union address: “Will George W. Bush be remembered as the president who lost the economy while trying to win a war?”


The New York Times:

Mr. Bush has spent years presiding over an economic climate of growth that would be the envy of most presidents. Yet much to the consternation of his political advisers, he has had trouble getting credit for it, in large part because Americans were consumed by the war in Iraq.

The chaotic events of the past week—wild stock market swings, a major cut in the interest rate from the Federal Reserve and a rare bipartisan deal between Mr. Bush and Congressional Democrats on an economic stimulus package—has turned that equation on its head, just in time for Mr. Bush to deliver his final State of the Union address Monday night.

I’m listening to this moron giving his speech as I am writing this. More scare tactics, especially implied justification for attacking Iran. One more year and this shitkicker will head back to the horse barn. Am I overreaching, or would most parents be outraged if this guy was the principal at their kid’s school?

The public pool of consciousness has stirred significantly from its slumber since that horrendous event; and in great majority it can no longer be so easily fooled.

One should already be able to plumb the depths of the genii currently at the helm. All that is necessary is to understand and perceive those forces which still fill 34% of Bush’s Neo-Roman sails, riding the winds of Constantine’s myth, whose ‘Scarlet Thread’ reaches on back into ancient Egypt and the throne of Tuthmoses III.

Maani, let us not get locked up too tight by the fear this suspicious word ‘PORBABLY’ generates within latent geniis of possible psychodramas in the yet, uncorked bottle.

If there is treachery afoot, like the vile stench of excrement in a clear clean pool of thought, it will become evident.

It would take more than an economic crisis to give the president even a quasi-legitimate opportunity to declare martial law or suspend elections or transfer of power.  Indeed, if the economy completely tanks, I’m sure Bush would be HAPPY to leave a Democrat to clean up the mess.

No, it would take no less than a true “national emergency” - say, another “terrorist” attack on U.S. soil causing thousands (or more) of deaths - in order for Bush & Co. to have the excuse they need (and want) to declare martial law and suspend either the elections (in November) or the transfer of power (in January).

STAGNANT!

If/when the economy collapses, this might be the crisis for the Shrub to declare it a disaster, therefore suspend the elections to take total control of everything along with Dicko. They bye, bye America. Just as they planned all along. It has been stated that Martial Law will be enacted when the next disaster/situation/crisis, whether real or imagined, is done to the US by others or something that this administration(has admitted they) will deliberately do to create a situation in this country that will allow this be happen. The administration has previously stated this several years ago. This is how desperate these people are to take permanent control. Do not be surprised at anything, no matter how unbelievable it may seem right now, that these desperate politicos will do. Nothing is beneath them, they are that low.

I noticed that too!

It could mean the editor was asleep at the wheel. Or it could be they know the economy is far worse than Bush does and perhaps he may be forced to address congress with a “revised” SOTU later in the year. Or it could mean the writer just lacks the wisdom to understand the difference between saying simply, “final” and trying to make a predictable story more interesting by being a little bit wordy.

Probably the later.

Of course the most frightening scenario would be a complete collapse of the economy which might allow Bush to put everything on hold. (?) What exactly are the rules when we have a complete collapse of the economy?

Well I don’t know if there are any, so maybe we better create some right quick!

Using this simple instruction from Thomas Jefferson:

“When once a republic is corrupted, there is no possibility of remedying any of the growing evils but by removing the corruption and restoring its lost principles; every other correction is either useless or a new evil.”

We need to take action. Drawing inspiration from these stirring words by Lee Iacocca:

“Where Have All the Leaders Gone?” Iacocca asks, “Am I the only guy in this country who’s fed up with what’s happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder. We’ve got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we’ve got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can’t even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, ‘Stay the course.’ Stay the course? You’ve got to be kidding. This is America, not the damned Titanic. I’ll give you a sound bite: Throw the bums out!”

We need to throw the bums out!

Someone on another thread pointed out the following; it is part of the first two paragraphs from the Washington Post report on Bush’s SOTU speech:

“Today, the president is getting little credit for improved security in Iraq, as the public increasingly focuses on a struggling U.S. economy. That is the problem Bush faces as he prepares to deliver his seventh and probably final State of the Union address tonight.”

Did you get that?  “...probably final…?”  What does THAT mean?  PROBABLY?  Does the WP know something that we don’t?

That word is not accidental.  And it bodes ill.

Unfortunately the “deals” aren’t so rare when it comes to screwing the American people and America as a whole. The D’s and R’s play good cop bad cop all the time with the same result - we the people lose.

Now that the period of “economic growth” that was built on war, lies and Wall Street’s never ending scams can’t be covered up any longer - all the Fed’s rate cuts and all the mint’s money can’t put Bu$h Inc.‘s economy back together again.

“We have met the enemy and it is us” - what are we going to do about it.

If you are allowed to borrow trillions of dollars you can live a very large life, until the “chickens come home to roost”. Debt is not the same thing as wealth. Debt is the future slave making its own “slave collar”.

Our nation is now swamped in debt which is being sold as “economic growth”. Moving on to ordinary people, they are swamped with debt and don’t realize how painted into a corner this makes their futures, not even figuring into the tangle our national debt.

This mess is the fault of not acting against a gangster administration with the ethics of an eternally hungery snake. As none of our candidate, nor even the people as a whole are moving to force the enforcement of the broken system of checks and balances, there will be no change, but we will have growing poverty and a charade of a democracy and constitution. Barbara must be proud.

Let’s first connect some dots in the week’s news. In Washington, two public interest groups — The Center for Public Integrity and the Fund for Independence in Journalism — finished a report they have been working on for months.  It’s an old story but with new math.  They went through the record and counted every false statement made by the Bush administration in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq and even six months after we were at war. How many?

If you guessed 935, you are right on the button.  That’s at least the number of times the president and seven of his top officials, including Condoleezza Rice, said Saddam Hussein was a national security threat.

BILL MOYERS: It was one of the most smoothly orchestrated and successful propaganda campaigns in our history, and it was one big lie. The war it produced still has no end in sight, five years later.

Now as this report was released in Washington, Secretary Rice was attending a gathering far away in Davos, Switzerland, where the masters of the universe gather every year to assess how they’re doing in running the world. Condoleezza Rice delivered what was described as a ‘bold’ speech, painting one of those rosy scenarios that so endeared her to the nation’s press five years ago:

However, he added, “We all acknowledge the risks to the downside, and the cost of doing nothing is too great. That is why it is so important that the Senate move very quickly to pass this bipartisan agreement.”

Proving either the movers and shakers are as out of touch with reality as Paulson and Rice, or Paulson and Rice are as out of touch with reality as Bush, or they all no perfectly well what’s going on and ride the wave hoping nobody will notice the so-called “economic stimulus” package is for the movers and the shakers.

But, before we blame the “movers and the shakers” for all our grief, we need to remember the folks we call our political leaders are really responsible for the mess. And our allowing them to stay in the “eternal club” without accountability puts the blame squarely on us.

So what’s the answer?
Fire ALL of them!

There is an election coming ...

But that wont happen ‘cause voting repubs will refuse to see repub responsibility, and voting dems will refuse to see dem responsibility and the candidates promising a new tomorrow, Clinton, Romney, McCain and Edwards are life-time members of the “eternal club.”

Hope I’m wrong!

Let’s hope it’s over.  Now how are we going to go about righting this ship folks.  I still like the idea of taxing rich folks back to poor folks.

Can you believe these guys are going to stimulate the economy with a few bucks thrown to those who won’t starve without it, yet refuse to increase unemployment benefits or maybe pass something on to retired people who worked and paid taxes their whole life?

I’m listening to that Cheney ball-licking freak Mary Matalin on Don Imus and she’s just so depressed her party is taking a dive. She’s another one who belongs in jail.  Probably the most important thing we can do is to make sure history outs every one of these animals for the damage they perpetrated on the world.  When the damage starts to surface, we will all be sickened to the core, trust me.
