Twenty-one Senate Democrats, Joe Lieberman and all but one Republican just approved $70 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Democrats had tried for weeks to tie funding for the wars to a withdrawal plan, but in the end the president got his way.

AP:

The Senate on Tuesday night passed a spending bill combining funding for 14 Cabinet departments with $70 billion for U.S. military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

By a bipartisan 76-17 vote, senators approved the massive bill, which bundles 11 annual appropriations bills funding domestic agencies and the foreign aid budget for the budget year that began Oct. 1.

Earlier, by a 70-25 vote in the Senate, President Bush and his GOP allies won a major victory in passing a measure providing $70 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan—without restrictions that Democrats had insisted on for weeks.

you should see the verbose meaningless drivel that i get from my 2 senators,“astronaut” bill nelson and bush ass kisser mel martinez. these douche bags won’t give anyone a straight answer on any subject. thanks for that list telling us how the spineless democrats voted. i’m far too lazy to ferret it out myself. just now read that the house voted for the money too, who would have ever guessed.

I for one would like to see where every cent of this money goes.
I have a very good suspicion that they have been pay insurgents to back off so his troop surge plan is working.
I know that they have to travel for their Holiday to Ramada and this is part of it, so i wrote this to Bu$h a while back.

> Don’t do this George, you are allowing the Media to reflect a downward trend in attacks on US troops in Iraq,
(1.) Now we both know that this is the time of their religious Holiday of Ramada and they travel there to do Homage to there god.
(2.) That many of their forces are gathering in the Valley in Pakistan also, It appears they are about ready to form an assault on the Capital there to take control of the country., Or to join with others ? It will be hard to say who’s side they will be on and you will agree.
(3.) It is not a good idea to let the American people believe your troop surge has something to do with the decreased bombings and rocket and IED and mortar attacks. This will bite you from behind later.
The American people are too busy trying to pay bills now and the Holidays to think about much else now, but they will latter. Unless you are guiding the enemy down a road of false information through our Media. <<END
We paid for 170,000 riffles that disapeared also, are they killing our troops with them now?

Just let Bush keep vetoing the legislation he doesn’t want, but the country does.  Expose the foolery for what it is.

Assuming the tally posted by Louise is correct, Dodd, Clinton, Biden and Obama have refused to vote on the Bill. They need to withdraw as candidates immediately. As For Harry Reid, the embarrassing unman who is guaranteeing the Democrats be perceived as less than useless, he needs to resign from the Senate and go fulltime to his other job, sitting quietly by the inner door of the Republican caucus room. As any Republican Senator leaves the room, Reed raises one foot over his head so the departing GOP’er may kick him full in the balls, after which Reid immediately pleads in coy girlish tones, “please sir, may I have another?”

I can’t stand to see any more of this stuff…the weakness of Democrats will place the US at risk…voting straight Republican.

I get so sick of hearing “I don’t support the war but I support the troops; we have to fund this war to support our troops”.  Bullsh_t!  Like I told my wife, it’s not like our troops are going to be in a fire fight and all of the sudden their weapon runs out of ammunition!  Stop the funding, and they will have to withdraw our forces.  This whole “support the troops” dialogue is just a easy cookie cutter excuse for all these spineless politicians, when asked why they continue to fund a war they supposedly don’t support.  A bullsh_t excuse for a bullsh_t democracy!

Folks, the power elite, which includes the Congress, is in favor of continuous war. It is advantageous to them . Read Mills’ “The Power Elite”, and “The Causes of World War Three” , both written 50 years ago, to see what is taking place today and why. The masses have no influence whatsoever.

A president who believes he is above the law is daily reminded by an impotent House and Senate that he is!

We can blame Israel. We can blame Bush. We can blame Congress. We can blame the tooth fairy! But the reality is the families of the guys stuck over there are as much to blame as anyone. The fear that if funding stops their loved ones will not get what they need. And the fear that if the funding stops jobs related to military service will end, keep the letters and phone calls coming in. obviously, more from them than from us.

No matter how upbeat they may say they are, military families live in daily fear! They know how bad it is. They know bushes war is little more than organized [crime] chaos. They know most troops now define their primary mission in Iraq as staying alive.  Their fears keep them from thinking about the war as “bushes chaos” even though general contempt for the man is rampant, right along with a fundamental conviction he lies and he is not a good leader. But that doesn’t bring the troops home. That doesn’t save lives. That doesn’t stop the slimeballs war!  That their loved ones wont make it back home in one piece, let alone still breathing, drives the demand to keep funding alive.

Main stream media, as usual, does great disservice to their viewers and readers by repeating bush lies over and over again. And never repeating any of the counter statements coming out of congress. Were it not for c-span and independent media, we would never know there are congress people who intelligently challenge and point out bushes lies.

The slimebags who created this war and keep it going have been very successful. For the majority of Americans, life goes on. For the very small minority, fear and grief runs the daily grind. Folks out there know there’s a war somewhere, but because it doesn’t touch them, unless they have first hand experience with the suffering of a friend, they are more focused now on the collapsing economy.

So yes, the slimebags have been successful. Confusion muddles perception and those who put the greatest pressure on the Senate are those who are governed by fear and confusion. Which is why it is more important than ever we have impeachment. But the chances of that happening are next to none, for the same reasons listed above.

Which Senators voted for funding? Go to http://capwiz.com/startribune/megavote/ and you can find out. Why did they vote for funding? See above. It’s that simple.

There is no rational justification for the war in Iraq. They know that.

There is no rational hope of a positive outcome from the war in Iraq. They know that.

But they, along with their constituents who have loved ones over there are afraid impeachment will further divide the country and place our troops in greater peril.

At least that’s what they tell themselves.
Waiting for the democrat president, like that’s going to make a big difference.

In other words, not knowing what to do, they opt to do nothing!

Perhaps after the 2008 elections a new president, like Aladdin’s Genie will appear and save the day.
How many more people will die needlessly while they are waiting?

They don’t like to think about that.

Yesterday the news reported 20,000 crack dealers were let out of prison early….obviously so Congress can keep smoking crack and giving Bush a free pass….this crook, while he gets away with spying on all Americans, at the same time gets unlimited funds for an illegal war….Congress bends over and lets Mukasey get appointed who shreds documents and is fuzzy about what constitutes torture, Bush now gets to spin his “energy” bill which is useless…it is very out of date and if it didn’t involve the fact that we will now continue to increase global warming, the rest of the world would be laughing at us…it promotes unsustainable ethanol, which is exacerbating drought, will turn the entire Gulf of Mexico into a dead zone, and will continue to make us all poorer, eggs have already doubled in one year (Bush continues to have high tariffs to keep out more sustainable, cheaper sources of ethanol from places like Brazil, where even favelas are more sustainable and progressive than us…

From my Senators letter justifying the refusal to consider impeachment, a few choice quotes:

“I share your serious concerns and frustrations with the direction that President Bush and his Administration have been taking our country, both at home and overseas. I am troubled that Congress has been denied a chance to hold hearings and to bring accountability to this Administration. Now that Congress is under new leadership, we finally have that opportunity, and Congress is using the oversight process aggressively to get the facts to help our country move forward. We have held more oversight hearings of the Administration’s handling of the Iraq war in the first few months of the Democratic control of the Congress than the Republicans did since the war began.”

[What she fails to mention is, aside from Gonzales resigning, nothing has come from the hearings. We have learned a lot. But we have also witnessed time after time the administration “giving congress the bird” by refusing to answer or acknowledge subpoena’s, among other things.]

“I believe the best way to alter the direction that our country is headed in is to focus on fixing the current problems. At both the state and federal levels, there are many issues that require our attention, discussion, and action, and will require the President’s active involvement. I am concerned that progress on health care, education, and veteran’s care would all be put on hold and would not be fixed if Congress solely focused on impeachment proceedings.”

[What she fails to mention is the only active involvement we have seen from the president regarding any of the Senates “fixes” is the VETO, which pretty well leaves all their efforts null and void!]

“Be assured, I believe that the Congress must hold the Administration accountable for their actions and decisions, and I look forward to the upcoming hearings and investigations that are occurring in the 110th Congress.”

***

By the way, this is a recent letter, which pretty well says nothing for this year folks! And also sums up how completely disconnected our Senators are from what’s really going on. Because so far, in spite of the hearings we have seen NO ACCOUNTABILITY! And what’s more, if the Senate continues on deluding themselves that hearings with no punishment for proved wrong-doing will somehow bring about accountability, then it’s time we help them see it has only produced more of the same.

A president who believes he is above the law is daily reminded by an impotent House and Senate that he is!

Since it is a complete waste of time and effort to let bush know how we feel. Maybe it’s time we start letting congress know we are now holding THEM accountable!

BILLIONS completely WASTED by gutless, crooked politicians and members of the military/industrial complex of rip-off corporations, while millions of honorable, hard working American citizens struggle with basic safety, health and housing challenges. Even without a majority the repugnicants still run Congress. So what is the purpose of a two party system if both parties are the same(well one a little less evil and corrupt)and the majority has no intentions of undermining the status quo. All elected officials should be subjected to recalls. The two party system in America is complete crap!! It is time for another revolution within this Republic. Stand up people and be heard and not allow yourselves culpability with these criminals.
