I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby has made the “tactical” decision to drop his appeal. After all, why spend millions of dollars in legal fees when you still have friends in high places? President Bush earlier commuted Libby’s sentence, keeping the former Cheney aide out of prison but leaving him with a criminal record and a fine. The White House won’t comment on whether Bush intends to pardon Libby.

Los Angeles Times:

[Libby’s attorney Theodore] Wells explained that the decision not to continue the appeal was tactical. “The appeal would lead only to a retrial,” he said, “a process that would last even beyond the two years of supervised release, cost millions of dollars more than the fine he has already paid, and entail many more hundreds of hours preparing for an all-consuming appeal and retrial.”

The decision also reflects the political reality that if the appellate court granted a new trial, it would probably occur during the administration of the next president, who might not share Bush’s interest in helping his former official.

The White House declined to comment ... on prospects for a pardon. “We never comment on whether or not the president will be granting pardons to anybody,” said Press Secretary Dana Perino.

Uh ... who’s threatening to whom?

“Lewis “Scooter” Libby — former PNAC member; studied political science at Yale under Paul Wolfowitz; aid to Cheney; convicted for lying about outing of Valerie Plame; “dual citizen” of US and Israel; Zionist”

The appeal has to drop. A new trial might have a different outcome, and we cant have the TRUTH coming out, now can we?

Bush will pardon Libby when he receives instructions to do so. And not one minute sooner.
And the suckers who raised money to assist with the appeal are ... uh ... well, suckers.

And all that money he raised for his “defense fund”, a little retirement package maybe.  Did anyone really think this guy wasn’t going to get that pardon…..

I didn’t know that Scooter’s fine was a burden on him and his young family.  I thought that other people paid the fine for him.

Libby probably needs to get a final court decision before he can get his pardon

I’m sure the other neocon jew, Abramoff, is pouting in his cell.  We don’t hear much about him anymore or Franklin either.  Atta, Abramoff, Bush, sort of a winning lottery number, what are the odds?

It is predicted that GW will pardon “loose lips” Libby before New Year’s eve. Former AG Beto, aka the consigliere, no doubt counseled GW that prolonging the not-in-jail agony of “looselips” will give him time to think about writing a best seller which would most likely lead to more sinking ships.

The attorney fails to state the obvious. Why waste all that time and money when after Libby told the Pres I have finished the first draft of my memoirs and if I do not get a pardon I will publish them.George of course reassured Scooter that the pardon was coming. It follows an old tradition of covering your ass for the Bush’s.His father could not wait to pardon Cap Weinberger when Iran Contra was being investigated.Like father like son. They keep the moron Pres out of the loop on the most nefarious deals so if worse comes to worse he will pardon them.Leave it to Republican’s to find ways of committing the perfect crimes.
