Oprah Helps Obama to Stadium StatusPosted on Dec 6, 2007
If you think the “Oprah effect” is all hype, you may be interested to learn that the Barack Obama campaign has had to move the location of an upcoming rally featuring the TV talk show host to accommodate the “overwhelming demand.” The new venue is the University of South Carolina’s 80,250-seat Williams-Brice Stadium, pictured here. Lighten up folks!
I don’t think it’s about Oprah’s influence, or even politics in general. It’s about a starving people finding something that helps fill the void inside.
Oprah is one of the few who stands as proof there is opportunity for those who seek it. Now whether or not there is still, remains to be seen, but some want to believe there is, so they gravitate to someone who proved there is.
Oprah has a very upbeat attitude, but at the same time remains humble. Oprah is also kind and generous.
Now about those starving people. Looking for honesty. Hungry for recognition. Starving for a glimpse of reality. Many of them find it in Oprah. No mystery. I frankly can not understand why someone doesn’t understand that, unless they’ve never really watched her. Oprah’s show could not fairly be called just entertainment. Nor simply informative. It’s both and more. It’s kinda a reaffirmation for some that there may be a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. But more than that, it’s a guide book to hunting for the good side, the upbeat.
Something sorely missing in this pathetic politics as usual place.
If she should run for president, she’d probably win. But she doesn’t want to be president. So the next best thing is using her influence to help the person she thinks would make the best president. That’s not only her right, but for any responsible citizen who has it in their power to inform and educate, that’s her responsibility!
Some folks could be handed a blueprint for success, with a written guarantee, and they’d still rip it to shreds.
Much easier than putting personal comfort on the line for the potential of success, eh?

• People wonder how a George Bush could have been elected President of the United States twice.Look at the morons who are voting.I have nothing against Obama it is the process that has me disgusted.
Thomas Billis,
I hear you loud and clear, and this is exactly the way I feel. And, it’s a very scary thing. It’s like it just all depends on how likes which supporters the best. In reality, I’m actually pretty impressed with Obama, though I won’t say that he’s perfect, or that our personal ideologies are exactly the same. (they don’t need to be). And, there are a couple of other candidates that are equally impressive.
BUT, it would seem, (by this disgusting process) that none of it matters. It only matters who endorses one or the other. And, while that TOO should matter, (the endorsements) and it used to, how did we devolve from requiring the endorsements of other statesmen/women, or the endorsements of political organizations who CONSISTENTLY represent our selected interests/priorities, to endorsements from CELEBRITIES who believe in ‘make believe’.
And, as bad as this is, (even though Obama may indeed be among the best currently being offered for the job) it is NO DIFFERENT than all of the others who are calling on God for endorsements, or calling on the ‘faith based’ to pander to. So, it’s the same with Romney, and Huckabee, and Paul.
And, that makes ME wonder, (as we have speculated on this site before) whether or not Oprah is in fact a help or a hindrance to any viable candidate. If I didn’t know enough about Obama INDEPENDENT of any endorsement or association from/with Oprah, I would be inclined to be repelled from any consideration of him.
What a genuinely sad state we’ve arrived at.
This is an excerpt from Eugene’s Robinson’s piece in the lead-up to this, and yeah, I was appalled, but what else is new…
• ..” In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Winfrey said she will not use her “platform” on Obama’s behalf—meaning her show and her eponymous magazine—but instead will speak for him with her “personal voice.” …”
• Why? “Because I felt it was a the right thing to do. And you know, I weighed that: What is the cost to me for doing it? Am I going to lose viewers? I made the decision that I have the right to do it as an American citizen. ... I know him well enough to believe in his moral authority. And that is the number one reason why I am supporting him.”
So, she says she speaking for him with her ‘personal voice’, and not her show or magazine. (how is there a difference?) But, what really caught me when I read this article originally, (and it stayed with me), was how she said that she WIEGHED the COST, of ‘doing the right thing’. (I paraphrase, but that’s what she’s saying, and I suspect she doesn’t know how that sounds). The she goes on to say that in ‘weighing this cost’ she considered whether or not it would mean that she might LOSE VIEWERS?
Uh…so much for ‘doing the right thing” eh? In short, it’s more proof that it is always, and has always been, and always will be ABOUT OPRAH!! She’s doing this because it is the ‘right thing to do’, but she first had to ‘weigh the costs’ (to herself) of doing this “right thing”. Anybody besides me see anything inherently hypocritical about that?
Oprah is SOOOO full of shit!!! (and herself) And… folks LOVE IT!!! What can I say?

Americans must be the dumbest people on the face of the earth. If Oprah has this much influence on a Presidential race I guess we have given up thinking altogether.I know that the people who watch Oprah have trouble deciding what to read but I was hoping they could think about how to pick a President.People wonder how a George Bush could have been elected President of the United States twice.Look at the morons who are voting.I have nothing against Obama it is the process that has me disgusted.
