The Israeli government has been decidedly hawkish about Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons program, even after the NIE report suggested there isn’t one. The Israeli people, on the other hand, have taken a more enlightened view: According to a new poll, roughly two-thirds oppose a unilateral attack on Iran.

AFP via Google:

When asked “should Israel alone attack the Iranian nuclear installations,” 67.2 percent said no, while 20.9 percent said yes and 11.9 percent had no opinion, said the survey aired on public radio.

The poll questioned people after the publication of a bombshell intelligence report in the United States earlier in the week, which said Tehran had frozen its atomic weapons programme in 2003.

Non credo: Could you please tell us what this poll really means again? I don’t think I caught it, maybe an 11th time would help…

As for me, I don’t think polls mean much of anything at all.

Do check history.  Expansionism? All the wars have been defensive wich were started by the countries surrounding them. Even then they gave back the Sinai.  Those countries trying to wipe them out.  Is it ok that they stay prepared?

Willng to attack?  you got things backward.

Israelis may oppose this for tactical reasons, not because they are “enlightened” lovers of peace….... All of the evidence suggests that the Israeli people and government DO favor an attack on Iran — but they want the US to bear all or most of the military and financial burden….”

Thanks, Non Credo. Now we can get down to the main motivating issue of Israelis - “Its either them or us!”, uhh.

Even their expansionism (religious/tribal imperialism) is secondary as they have continued to put themselves in an untenable position. Historically, they have armed themselves to the teeth and have always been willing to attack.

At some stage, even this strategy will fail. The USA must ultimately pursue its own objectives and that will not always include Israel’s interests. AIPAC and the righteous fools in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv have yet to understand this.

At best polls can be specious, skewed and suspect.

An Israeli poll, is all of the above.

“The Israelis hate Iran and want it destroyed. The Israelis cannot tolerate rivals to their regional supremacy. “

==========================================
How do YOU know that?  Are you that smart?  The sharpest blade in the drawer,eh.

At least its announced by Iran with all their threats how they feel about Israel.  Do we hear anything from you on that?

Nothing like that is promulgeted by the people or the government of Israel towards Iran. There’s many more threats from the U.S.

Now that’s worth discussing because they support the insurgets in Iraq with suicide bombers and IDE’s ; also support Hezballah and Hamas with biggee bucks and weapons. Lovely innocent country. Indeed.

Israel Cannot Let Down Its Guard in the Face of Iranian Threats - Editorial

While Iran continues threatening to annihilate Israel, what American intelligence thinks about Iran’s nuclear capability is irrelevant. It is not fantasy or paranoia when we hear regular, concrete threats from Tehran. Therefore, the question of whether Iran obtains a nuclear capability to destroy Israel in two years or seven years is not important. While other nations can amuse themselves by mulling their economic interests with Iran, Israel is the only country that cannot let its guard down as long as the current Iranian regime is in power. The American intelligence report cannot justify a policy change or a calming down. The report establishes that if Iran wants to produce a bomb it can do so.

Israel demands Bush attack Iran, just like their demand that he attack Iraq. It’s plan, on the web,  for Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Lebanon was formulated and prepared years ago by the same folks who now control Bush, who also benefits from the wars.

You gotta’ catch up history, man.

Its been in the press and newspapers and TV and essays and reports on multiple occasions that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has stated that Israel will be destroyed. Consumed.  Wiped off the Earth. His hateful theats and insuations against Israel and the Jewish people are not entirely rhetoric.  Cannot be dismissed !

•  I think its terrific.  How about a cheer for Israel for a change, since they have turned thumbs down to the question proposed to them on a poll to attacking Iran.  Lordee, I would think some commentators here would applaud the decision.

Howard, I’m only just now getting around to reading this, and at face value, I would say that YES, this is a good thing. However, it’s ALSO what I personally have speculated for a long time anyway. IOW, I’ve never believed that the majority of Israel’s population was ever in favor of bombing Iran, or even the constant saber-rattling that ISRAEL’S government is constantly directing TO Iran. (because, I DO believe you have that backwards, and maybe intentionally, because you want to believe this rhetoric as much as you’ve wanted to believe that Iran was planning a nuclear weapons program, despite all evidence to the contrary).

So YES, IF, IF, IF..this means that this many Israelis are NOT in favor of bombing Iran – under any circumstances- it’s ‘terrific’. However, I couldn’t fail to note the same thing, (from the article) that Non Credo noted: This poll specifically inquires as to the popularity of bombing Iran UNILATERALLY. And, AS WE ALL KNOW from previous news reports, (from here and around the world) any earlier plans for attacking Iran (that Israel may have been involved in) were always with the understanding that the US would at least ‘assist’ if not act entirely alone, presumably on BEHALF of Israel. (since we here in the US DAMN SURE don’t have any ‘borders’ with Iran – so Iran has NEVER been a ‘threat’ to US!!) And, since NOBODY else in the Middle East has an nuclear and conventional arsenal the size of tiny Israel’s, nobody else even CAN be a ‘threat’ to them.

Still, if this means that the Israelis, now KNOWING that Iran hasn’t had any sort of intent to develop a nuclear WEAPONS program since 2003, (and I knew that too) that they no longer favor attacking Iran –AT ALL- then yep, it’s just great. And, if this poll is IN LINE with the same polls that have shown, over time, a rapidly decreasing support for Olmert, than that too, is encouraging.

What we still don’t know of course, is whether or not this poll makes any more ‘difference’ to the actions of the Israeli GOV, than these same polls here at home, relate to the continued actions of our OWN government. IOW. Do they EVEN CARE what the population has to say?

Meantime, why do you keep repeating these accusations against Iran, at every available opportunity you get/take:

•  “…In spite of Iran threatening Israel more than once with complete destruction,…”

Here it is again:

•  Israel does NOT threaten or intimidate any another country. Iran has threatened Israel for no reason over and over. Iran is like the bully on the playground.

You keep claiming that “Iran” keeps threatening Israel, over and over and over. Well, we KNOW that ISN’T TRUE Howard!! Now, I’m not gonna get into a pissing contest with you on how many times ISRAEL does this, because I honestly don’t know, and I don’t have time to research it.

I DO KNOW however, that “Iran” is NOT, and HAS NOT been doing any repeated threats or intimidations to Israel, and so I think if you’re gonna keep up this rhetoric, (because that’s ALL that it is) and innuendo, (that has NO factual basis) then you need to start citing some sources, and I don’t wanna hear the ‘wiping Israel off the map” rhetoric either, because that too, is a misinterpretation that has been conveniently hyped and twisted around, just like the whole alleged Holocaust denial thing, which was never a ‘denial’ of the Holocaust at all!!

So, unless you can come up with some specific ‘threats’ or intimidations that all of the Iranian people, or all of the Iranian government has directed against Israel, over and over again, you really should stop this tired old propaganda and lying. Because, we know it’s a bunch of shit.

It’s amazing.  27% of Americans support President Bush and that’s considered disastrous for his administration. It means that all of his sane support is gone and only the nuts are left.  If Bush’s support drops to 20% even the spineless Demo-weenies may FINALLY do what they should have done in January: Start impeaching the SOB.

But when only 20% of the Israel is supporting its government’s position, that doesn’t keep the trolls here at Trapclap.com from claiming, as they always do, that all Israel is evil, all Isrealis are evil, and, of course, with it, the implication that all Jews are evil.

That’s because it’s impossible for our trolls to recognize that MOST Israelis (at least 80%) merely want to live their lives in peace…and freedom, that they are not hungering for Arab blood just for fun, that they are not sadists, not religious fanatics, that they are not anything but ordinary people who just want to live in peace with their neighbors.

Is it all right for that tiny, tiny country of Israel to be able to defend itself ?

I can defend Lebanon, also, against the dire influence of Syria and Iran.  It’ll never be the same.

How ‘bout some mild criticism against any other country except Israel.  Be cheerful and joyful that the the poll showed how much their citiizens want a true peace.  Hello.

What’s the report here about.  Might we stay with some relevant messages.

Israel’s Secret Weapon (Secret Nuclear Weapons)

“Mordechai Vanunu, Israel’s nuclear whistleblower, was jailed in 1986 for publishing photographs of Israel’s nuclear bomb factory at Dimona. ... all » Olenka Frenkiel reveals the extent of Israel’s nuclear gagging. The Sunday Times Revelations hit the press in October 1986. Vanunu has spent 17 years in jail, a11 of which were in a minute solitary confinement cell - and he has just had his appeal for parole denied. He will stay in jail until 2004, when his term is expected to end.

Sunday Times journalist Peter Hounam heard rumours in 1986 that an Israeli whistleblower was offering proof of what the world had long suspected. His revelations confirmed that Israel was building advanced nuclear weapons. After the Sunday Times published this scoop, Vanunu was kidnapped in London by Mossad agents and illegally smuggled back to Israel. He was tried in secret and convicted of treason and spying.”

I’d like to see what a similar poll in the US. would have produced, either for going into Iraq or Afghanistan back on the eve before our entries into those countries.

Iran does not even border on Israel.  What the dickens are they making themselves an enemy of Israel for ?  Has Israel ever bothered them?  Maybe they don’t have enough oil in the ground yet.  Or else they need a boogy man to give to their public to defer attention from their failing economy.
