Web sites—they grow up so fast!  We’re popping open the bubbly today, the second anniversary of Truthdig’s launch, and raising a glass to our staff and our readers. Two years ago, we started the venture with the driving idea of digging for the truth, and we’re thrilled by the results: 15,445,974 unique visits (and counting), two Webby awards and the daily opportunity to engage in a community of ideas with our contributors.

Oh, its nice to have a politics/news blog with the word TRUTH in its title. It is a motto, an ideal and a virtue as well as a name!

With it comes responsibility too as “truth” demands “truth”. Its no good being like those old faded instiutions like Harvard university which have “Veritas” as their motto yet they shun from the realities of having to present truth to all if there is any perceived cost or inconvenience to themselves, uhh.

“A thing has occurred to me which I am inclined to think will put me out of favour with the duke and duchess; but though I am sorry for it I do not care, for after all I must obey my calling rather than their pleasure, in accordance with the common saying, amicus Plato, sed magis amica veritas....” Don Quixote

Well, this explains the occasional journalistic tantrums of some Truthdig contributors and the slightly “stinky” nature of some articles.  Truthdig is just a toddler! Still in it’s “terrible twos” at that.  I should have known.

Don’t worry, tough, if Truthdig survives another year it’s behavior and table manners should start to gradually improve and it will become a more responsible and grownup member of the journalistic family.  It’s just young and slightly irrational now, so be patient.

***Please accept my heartiest felicitations for your good work***
Truthdig is a rising star, a beacon of light in the face of all the oppressing forces working on this planet earth; to check their rampage and cruel subjugation of defence less people; the inflicting of pain in the name of ‘peace and freedom’ and an orgy of ‘blood and tears’ that these oligarch leave behind.
This world needs a call against all such suppressions:
*A man; may he be from any age, century, trail or a creed!
When ever he has risen; he rose to the call of his inner self; his inner conscious.

Douglas,

I noticed this myself. But for the moment at least, I think I’ll have a glass of the stuff myself. I do at least appreciate the opportunity to engage in a community of ideas, even when some of the contributors are in fact raving lunatics.

If nothing else, it keeps us on our toes.

So to Truthdig, Congratulations!!

Now, get back to work. wink

“ We’re popping open the bubbly today...”

More like you should be pulling your finger out and doing something to keep Truthdig “clean and tidy” again. Today, with the Annapolis summit, its being taken over by Jewish-Zionist hypocrites and hate-mongers justifying their position in eliminating the Palestinain people from their homeland by using and usurping and monopolizing the Truthdig blogs.
