Commonwealth Gives Musharraf an Ultimatum

The Commonwealth, a kind of shadow U.N. for the former British empire, has threatened to suspend Pakistan’s membership unless President Pervez Musharraf puts an end to his emergency rule within 10 days. Pakistan was banned from the organization between 1999 and 2004 after Musharraf came to power through a coup.


BBC:

Commonwealth foreign ministers have given Pakistan 10 days to lift its emergency rule or face suspension.

After an extraordinary session in London, they also said President Pervez Musharraf had to step down as army chief and release political detainees.

In Pakistan, opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was given a seven-day detention order hours before she was due to lead a march from Lahore to the capital.

I am sure Musharaff filed those notification papers in the closest circular file.As long as the dueling dictators a la “Deliverance” Musharaff and Bush are as thick as thieves everything else is window dressing.By the way Bush of the “Deliverance” analogy is the one on the porch sitting down.
