Dems Threaten to Charge Mute Bushies

House Democrats have threatened to push ahead with contempt-of-Congress citations against past and present Bush intimates Harriet Miers, Joshua Bolten and, possibly, Karl Rove. The White House appeared unimpressed, probably because the administration would ultimately oversee any prosecution, via the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia.

The whole fracas has to do with the aides’ refusal to testify on whether U.S. attorneys were fired by the White House for political reasons.

A White House spokesman noted that the president has offered to allow the aides to testify, so long as it was off the record and unrecorded, possibly under water while speaking pig latin.

AP:

“It won’t go anywhere,” predicted White House press secretary Dana Perino.

Congressional Democrats nonetheless submitted their 102-page report, and a Republican rebuttal, to the House clerk on Monday afternoon. The report accused Miers of contempt for failing to appear and testify as subpoenaed. She and Bolten were charged with failing to produce documents on whether the prosecutors were fired at the White House’s behest.

Also in the sights of House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, D-Mich.: Karl Rove, the architect of Bush’s rise to the White House and a top political adviser who left last summer.

The Democrats need to hold them in contempt and have them held in jail like Patrick Fitzgerald did to Judith Miller. Criminal activity is being covered up. The Gutless ,spineless , Democrats have allowed Bush and company to get away with war crimes, crimes against humanity, treason, obstruction of justice, illegal wiretaps, theft of US treasury.cronyism, and a host of other unethical, immoral.and illegal activities. Why they refused to throughly investigate the most heinous ,incompetent unethical, immoral President and Vice-President we have ever had is beyond logic. I guess they must think that winning the next election is more important than giving the people back our country and our constitution which has been hijacked by the Decider. My guess is that they will continue the path of unchecked power. and the unethical, immoral behavior that has become the new way of governing under the reign of Bush and Cheney.

Another sad joke. Nothing will come of this. Bush owns the government, and that includes the congress. There will be some posturing (and preening), but like the move toward impeachment, it will be laughed out of the beltway and the Republicans will continue their dominance.

Two bits says the gutless Democrats do nothing with their “threat” to issue Contempt of Congress citations to anyone hired by the White House.  Six bits says that even if they do find the balls to actually deliver any citations, nothing of consequence will ever happen.

How sad it is to have the fate of our democracy resting in the hands of spineless cowards afraid to confront a power grabbing dictator and his bullies like Cheney.  At least the Roman senators who dispatched that other dictator, Caesar, weren’t afraid to get their hands dirty.  Granted they ultimately lost and a millennium of tyranny followed, but at least they went down fighting.  The despicable current leadership of the Democratic Party seems more afraid of mere mudslinging Fox News pundits than the justifiable outrage of their own rank and file members.

Dana Perino, sadly, is right when she says this “won’t go anywhere.”  If recent history is any guide, the Democrats will whine and complain, but they will not be tough and do what is legally within their power; and what is ethically, and morally right.

Another empty threat by the invertebrate democrats!

Of course the white house is complacent about any of its henchmen present or absent will obey the summons or injunctions of congress. There must be a way to relieve the republican control of congress - then the white house will cave in.

Anyone willing to lead the charge?

Don’t hold your breath. They’ll have to check the polls first. Then maybe they’ll decide not to decide.

Welcome to the Bannana Republic of the United States.Generalissimo Bush and his cronies may have broken the law but the US attorneys are his compadres so charges will not be brought. The top works on bannana republic principles and the rest of us operate under the rule of law.Try it.The next time you are subpoenaed to appear anywhere try not going and blog what happens.

Bush will say “Boo!” and they’ll crap their pants.

I just don’t get it—the Dems have the GOP’s balls in their hands—all they have to do is squeeze, but they don’t have the guts to do it—as if appearing gutless will win elections.

That’s ok, I saw something the other day that said even after they are out of office they are liable to be arrested & prosecuted. I’m patient and have the memory of an elephant, but the wait won’t be easy to be sure.
