Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf declares emergency rule in a TV appearance on Saturday.

If any further proof was needed that Pakistan represents a major global concern at present, President Pervez Musharraf just provided it by declaring a state of emergency and storming the Pakistani Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the U.S. is “deeply disturbed” by these developments.

BBC:

The BBC’s Barbara Plett reports from Islamabad that fears had been growing in the government that the Supreme Court ruling [on the legality of his October election victory] could go against Gen Musharraf.

Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who recently returned to the country after years of self-exile to lead her party in planned parliamentary elections, was in Dubai on a personal visit when news of the declaration broke.

However, she immediately flew back to Karachi where she condemned Gen Musharraf’s decision.

2. Press the button - on Pakistan, uhh!
3. Gimme one whiskey, one bourbon, and one more beer….

Can’t start a war with Pakistan, they have nukes. Maybe Musharrif could put Osama Bin Laden under house arrest for us. Would the US allow Iran to harbor Bin Laden like they do in Pakistan? I doubt it. Democracy at the barrel of a gun. Worked for the US in Iraq. Musharrif figures it will work for him in Pakistan. He is just imitating the Decider.

After the BeiJing Olympics was the original date (with EU permission) but the economic recession might make it necessary to move things forward a bit. After all, “politics” is local, uhh. Good luck with your military dictatorship, USA - oops, I mean martial law!?!?

Ha ha, did you mean Pakistan or the fact that the uSA is “deeply disturbed”???

“....I am waiting for something to happen here in the US so Bush can declare an emergency, suspend the Constitution and halt the elections.”...

I have these same fears…waiting for something “to happen”, though I don’t know when. The reality is pretty much that the something happened 7 years ago, (The Coup of December 2000) and then the next Coup of September 11, 2001, and since then, we’re just about finished off at this point.

Meantime, we’ve given $10 Billion to Pakistan since September, 2001, to “help them fight terrorisim”, and the help them ‘flush out’ bin Laden and al-Qaeda, who are ‘believed to be’ in the area.

How long will we stay in this created disaster, before it consumes us all, and we’ll all just one big New Orleans, or another Iraq? Or, another Pakistan?

Not sure it’s gonna take as long as 7 or 8 months.

I am waiting for something to happen here in the US so Bush can declare an emergency, suspend the Constitution and halt the elections.  I’m thinking sometime next year, around July or August.  Perpetual Bush - won’t that be nice.  And, he has said a numbeer of times that it would be much easier if he was a dictator.

Instead of looking at North Korea or Iran one should look at Pakistan. Without the dictator Musharraf it will get in the hands of people that will have the nukes and the missile capability to use them. Like the Protestants that pine for the Armageddon, I believe there are similar pipe dreams in Pakistan.
