The Return of Don Imus

After a nine-month hiatus from the American airwaves, professional provocateur Don Imus has signed on with New York’s WABC-AM.  Although the station’s president says he’s “thrilled” to bring Imus’ “unique brand of humor” and “knowledge of the issues” to WABC, others are less than pleased about the shock jock’s comeback.

AP via Breitbart.com:

The acid-tongued broadcasting icon was fired in April after he called the Rutgers University’s women’s basketball team “nappy-headed hos” on the air, sparking a national furor and calls by civil rights leaders and broadcast journalists to resign.

But just three months later, Rev. Al Sharpton, one of the strongest voices calling for the shock jock’s firing, said Imus had a right to make a living and could return to radio.

Citadel Broadcasting CEO Farid Suleman also recently defended Imus, telling The New York Times in a recent interview: “He didn’t break the law. He’s more than paid the price for what he did.”

But prospects of Imus’ return, anticipated for months, have outraged critics including the National Association of Black Journalists and the National Organization for Women, who said the idea of him coming back to the airwaves months after he was fired is nearly as insulting as the comments that drove him off the air.

Imus is not a racist.  Actions speak louder than words.  Don and Deirdre Imus deserve supper hero status for the work they have done for children of all races.  He has been sorely missed.  His show provided a forum for authors, politicians, and people of interest.  I am thrilled he is going to return.  It was not soon enough for me.

Sharpton went into his best Fred Sanford heart attack routine when Imus made his unfortunate comment about the girls basketball team, all the while supporting double homicide murderer O.J. Simpon and dog drowner Mike Vick. You can’t convince me that he (Sharpton) has a shred of credibility!

If Imus gets a TV deal say goodbye to Morning Joe, the MSNBC replacement for Imus, ratings. Their show stinks!

Just one more piece to trash to foul the airwaves. Love the I-Man? How sad. But as one poster said, don’t like him, change the dial. Won’t have to do that, I have way too much class to ever listen to Don Imus.

Oh please.Black journalists and Al Sharpton should decide what I listen to.I have listened to Imus off and on for 30 years. If you can make him a racist you are an idiot or a non listener. You may not like it but he is an equal opportunity offender. He introduced Harold Ford to the rest of the world. Was to my recollection one of his biggest supporters. If I were to venture further you could make a case that one of the reasons for the close race in Tenn was Imus’ backing. What did the black journalists do to help his election?Let us not forget that some of the best interviews of politicians were done on his show.Actually hard questions and with follow ups.Something black jourmalists have never done.I am sure that in the communities where black journalists live there is an off switch on their radios and that there is more than one radio station in the community.Do not impede on my right to listen and see what I want and I will not impede your right to watch BET and see some real racial stereotyping.Besides you now have dog what his name to go after.

This brief article by LARRY McSHANE was just as teaser but at least impartial. At first notice of the header, I was agitated by the prospect of another Alternet-honed feminist rant. Imus is welcome in my radio anytime, no matter how obnoxious. Just as Howard Stern has made a living on sexual dangling and disgusting misuse of retards, I find fellow libertarians, even rich eccentric ones, to be necessary relief in the midst of a declining empire. Censorship itself is a signpost of decline. decline. Welcome back Imus. Fuck with the world all you want.
