While Russia is leading the race to claim the North Pole for itself, Britain has decided to expand its territory on the other end of the world, in Antarctica. The British Foreign Office says it has no immediate plans for the additional 1,000 square miles of seabed, but simply wishes to “safeguard for the future.”

BBC:

The move does signal Britain’s willingness to join the current rush by countries to try to secure their potential oil and gas rights to seabeds should circumstances change.

The most notable recent example was the claim by Russia over the Arctic seabed.

“It is essentially to safeguard for the future and if (the treaty) is abolished in the future we will have safeguarded our claim to that area,” the Foreign Office spokeswoman said.

I think we should put a martian flag there only make it bigger than everyone elses.  It could say something like: “F**K OFF”.

Do you think if I made up my own flag and I just started sticking it in the ground in spots I think I want that then all I have to do is beat someone up and then the land AND EVERYTHING under it is mine.

I think these sorts of claims speak to the ultimate futility of nationalism. What we need to do is to think of ourselves as Earthlings and govern ourselves accordingly. I don’t see one single government ever developing however unless aliens from another planet galvanize us to act together as one people. That said I imagine there are at least a few countries that would just as easily sell out humanity than try to get along with us.

I imagine once again that the bu$h cabal is behind the power curve on this new reality.

While Russia is making claim to possible resource rich, newly opened ocean at the North end f the Planet and Britain is doing the same thing at the South end of the planet the George Gang are busy making as many monumental screw-ups as possible.

We (bu$hies) have made solid enemies in the Mid-East, we (bu$hies) are doing every thing we can to re-alienate our one new friends in Russia, we (bushies) already alienated France and Italy along the way and now we (bu$hies) are trying to alienate the Chinese.

In spite of having lived under numerous Presidnts I voted against, this is the worst in my history. I never thought I’de live to see anything even close to these idiots being allowed to derail our country.

This is more evidence we need to greatly reduce or dependence on oil products.  Why are we dragging our feet on this, maybe it’s because our leaders don’t want to see and end to their soaring oil profits….....
