Ad Asks Gore to Run, He Says NoPosted on Oct 10, 2007
DraftGore.com purchased a full-page ad in The New York Times, hoping to persuade an audience of one that “it’s a moral imperative for [Al Gore] to be a candidate.” The former vice president appreciates the sentiment, but still “has no intention of running.”

That’s very interesting farmertx. Odd though. I remember back in early 2000, discussing the ‘candidates’ for that year with one of my cousins. He told me that he thought the Shrub was ‘sincere’, (?) and he said “Gore just hasn’t DONE anything”.
I lived in Texas at the time, and so did he. His mentality was firmly wedded to ‘the republican party’. So, in his mind, the shrub must have had this ‘Charisma”. And, despite the fact that Al Gore had been second in command for 8 years, he said, “he really hasn’t ‘done’ anything.
Well, needless to say, my cousin is a moron, who obviously cannot and does not think for himself. That would appear to be the same case for most of the rest of Texas, and many other states as well.
I mean, it was enough (at least for my cousin) that the Shrub was the “kind of guy you’d like to have a beer with”. And, he VOTES.
So, maybe it’s really not at all about “Charisma” but more like group-think stupidity.
Meantime, I think (and I always have) that Al Gore has all kinds of “Charisma.” Exactly the stuff that you’ve described a leader should have. Too bad most of my fellow citizens are too stupid to recognize it as such. And, that’s a pity. The rest of the world obviously knows what a precious commodity he is, and how strong his leadership skills are.

Go figure. Our loss. And, if we consider -for even a tiny fraction of - the events (and results) of the past 7 years, and how far we’ve declined, overall, as a nation....well...I don’t need to say more.
Gore has been vindicated. The rest of us are thoroughly screwed. It generally works that way, when people are guided by ignornace.

Shrub has never had charisma, except among those who are blind as to the meaning of the word.
He had a masterful spin doctor who played the Republican faithful for fools. And they went along with it, even after the facade fell away.
A good, effective leader must have a way about their self that makes people want to do the hard things necessary for our country, society and economy go forward.

..."An ideal world would negate charismas’ edge and elevate good sense...”
Actually FarmerTx,
I think an ideal world would manage to avoid the ‘either/or’ mentality, though I don’t see it happening.
The average person is still stuck in it, failing to realize that BOTH are available. Yes, Bill Clinton DID have Chrisma. It’s why his most ardent “haters” hated him. He was/is also extremely intelligent.
So, if Chrisma, (or a moron’s interpretation of it) is what brought us the shrub, then one can safely assume now, that Chrisma is the epitome of the devil himself, eh?
Now, would you say that Dick Cheney has “Charisma”? Probably not. But, guess who’s running the show, and our nation into the ground? Is Dick Cheney intelligent? Oh YES!! Intelligent to know that he has no “charisma”. That’s why they put the Shrub on the publics view. To ‘fool’ people who like to ‘evaluate’ based on “Charisma”.
I rest my case.

Re: Cyrena
CHARISMA ISSUES??? Gee...that’s real important, eh?
Seems to me that I’ve read several books/articles that mention charisma as an asset that is very useful to any politician.
FDR had it. Many were against him at the onset of WarII, but he managed to pull most American’s together.
JFK had it. Many were convinced that his election meant that the Pope would rule this country. He managed to lead this country through some rough times.
Bill Clinton had it. And he did pretty well because of it.
An ideal world would negate charismas’ edge and elevate good sense. We are a long way from an ideal world.
While we can’t give up trying to acheive an ideal world, we must recognize some basic facts. And one of those facts is that charisma matters.
Shrubs’ charisma was but a facade that many world leader’s saw through quickly. Now, even Republican’s acknowledge (albeit quietly for many) that Shrub is an empty shell.
Bill Richardson has many good ideas and the experience to make them happen. But he makes a poor impression on many in the debates. Fred Gravel is another that is ignored, as is Ron Paul on the other side.
I am not advocating choosing a President based solely on charisma. But it does need to be considered. Because many will base their vote on that one point. They will be wrong, but they will still do that.

“.....inherit a world-wide MESS that to clean up would likely consume his entire presidency, and become a target for every wingnut on the planet?"…
I’m with you RAE, why the hell WOULD he? It’s volunteering to be tortured. He doesn’t owe anybody a damn thing.
And, I don’t agree with you this time QuyTran. I think he MEANS NO!! At least he was nice enough not to say....Kiss My Ass!! That’s exactly what I’d be saying, after the shaft they gave this guy.
What’s that cliche or whatever, Success is the greatest revenge? Something like that. Anyway, let him ENJOY!!

CHARISMA ISSUES??? Gee...that’s real important, eh?
I mean, how can one run a country without CHARISMA?
...whew...that’s really scary. Let’s just vote on Charisma....like the kind of guy you’d like to have a beer with. The kind of “charism” that has us all doing the best we can to stay alive.
Nobel Peace Prize winner with Charisma issues. Poor Al, I bet he’s all beat up about it, but he can still probably find his way to the bank.
Charisma -for me at least- comes from an intelligent mind. I’d take that over a dancer any day.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as (Hollywood/Gore) can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for (Hollywood/Gore) to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the Gore.”

Nobody kicked up a stink when he “lost” the first time. The whole thing was just a big yawn, for the people who voted and the people who didn’t. They bougt the lies the Repubs were spreading around, and carried on buying the lies - the multiple wars (with another one on the books for early next year), the money pouring down black holes, the election of Bush for the 2nd (or 1st) time, they just let it slide by.
Why the hell would Gore go back into that?
He did his bit, and is still doing it. I guess he figures it’s someone else’s turn now, if they can drag themselves away from football on TV, porn on the computer, or food in the refrigerator.
Anyone who’s ever been dumped for someone else, only to have the dumper crawl back for forgiveness, would recognize how he feels right now.

There is only one reason for Al to run…
To save us from the likes of Fred, Rudy, Romney & Co.
It is so incredibly humiliating to be an American abroad at the moment with all these greedy, self absorbed, self righteous, pandering, completely out of touch, pathetic, ultimately ignorant men posing as potential leaders.
I am neither Dem or Rep, which i guess puts me in the rediculous us or them, with us or against us, box we Americans have sadly adopted as our dumbed down mantra.
Anyone with an education that extends beyond the borders of America, or beyond their social suburban bubble for that matter, knows that these guys are all full of it, and follow their fair weather friends through the same rhetoric day after day.
They don’t care about anything other than their own individual agendas, they are not united as a party, they are all paper tigers who’ll drive America further into the same ditch than GW has.
Sorry but Thompson??? Are we serious? How can we even let this guy get on stage?
Giuliani??? Just watch, listen, he’s an absolute fraud, he’s still playin GW on the pile at 911.
And Romney is day by day soundbiting himself into history as the most obvious imposter of them all. Where the hell is the press?
Its a turkey shoot for lack of a better definition.
Its a very bad movie, their reading HBO drama scripts written to illustrate how dangerous our system has become. Romney is a hairdoo…
Listen to his words people!
I get the feeling people are thinking “oh he’s handsome and young looking with his Clark Kent hairstyle” like Kennedy, he’s got no mind of his own people.
Dem’s no better, their “all” following the flow, their all soundbiting and wavering on all issues, carefully crafting their words so as not to break from the group for fear of loosing some airtime.
Only Denis Kucinich & Ron Paul have the courage to state “real facts”, not happy smiley soundbites, all that so called gloom & doom, non optimistic, fact based information about the reality on the ground in America that no one wants to hear… or are to stupid to understand anymore.
And the consolidated controlled media buries them, ignores them, reduces them, the truth is squashed on a regular basis.
Be afraid America, for you have been dumbed down beyond your own recognition. Your so dumb you don’t even realize how dumb the information your being fed is. FOX news is “still” the higest rated channel in America, and Bill O’reilly is comin’ to your house...be afraid!
You don’t want to know the truth, you want the pickup turck and the 12pack of Bud, the playstation & American Idol…
Al Gore cannot save us, yes he won, and was cheated, but he’s too smart to get into this rediculous race again because he knows he can’t change the voting system to anything fair anymore.
Who can save America?
We the people can save America, if we rediscover who we are. If we can once again find the courage, and the pride, the self respect we once had, and demand that our rights be respected not only as America citzens but as human beings.
All that was lost by our sheepish behavior post 911, all that is lost by continuing to believe that Osama Bin Laden and his band of merry men attacked us, and allowing ourselves to be manipulated with terror, and an enitre generation of our youth being wasted in a war we care nothing about.
Its not up to God, Al Gore or anyone else people, its up to us.

Only good thing is that many Republican’s are now looking a little further than sound bites and photo-ops for their next candidate. Hopefully, Democrat’s will do the same.

Al Gore has no chance at being elected. He is too qualified and that will turn off the American voter. We want a moron we can picture having a beer with.Al Gore actually feels that you cannot discuss a difficult question with a 30 second sound bite. When we mature as a country maybe someday we will elect someone like Al Gore and really start to tackle the problems of the 21st century. As for now the best we can do is either war mongering republicans or the how are we going to cut up the Constitution today Democrats.Sorry cutting up the Constitution seems to be the mission of both parties.

From Oakland, where a Green Jobs Corps is training hundreds of minority, low-income workers for the clean energy jobs of the future, to Washington, D.C., where students are planning the first ever national youth summit on global warming, Americans of all walks of life are taking on climate change as the challenge of our generation.
