Top Court Refuses to Hear Torture Case

Supreme Court

German citizen Khaled el-Masri’s quest for justice, following his “extraordinary rendition,” has come to an end.  Masri claims he was kidnapped by CIA operatives in late 2003 and tortured for months in an Afghan prison, but his case was closed on Tuesday when the U.S. Supreme Court declined to consider his appeal.

The New York Times:

The justices’ refusal to take the case of Khaled el-Masri let stand a March 2 ruling by the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, in Richmond, Va. That court upheld a 2006 decision by a federal district judge, who dismissed Mr. Masri’s lawsuit on grounds that trying the case could expose state secrets.

The Supreme Court’s refusal, without comment, to take the case was not surprising, given that a three-judge panel for the Fourth Circuit was unanimous. Nevertheless, today’s announcement prompted immediate expressions of dismay, and it could exacerbate tensions between the United States and Germany.

How shocked could I be to find out that the Supreme Court, like GWB doesn’t always have humanity first in mind.
Sloggybay,
At this point in time, the Supreme Court, is the same as GWB, who has NEVER had humanity ‘first’ in mind. Matter of fact, GWB has NEVER had humanity ANYWHERE in mind. And, that can be said of the SC now that they’ve added John Roberts and Alioto (or whatever his name is) to the earliers picks of GHWB, the radical Clarence Thomas, and the equally abusive Scalia. None of these guys even ‘consider’ something like the concept of ‘humanity’, unless their talking about unborn humanity. Them, they support overwhelmingly. Once you’re born, that’s where the support stops.

I guess they don’t consider a German to have the same human soul they have? Maybe they get their kicks from the tortures of another human. I believe G. gets a high from torture and death.
Their conscience is lacking, what else could we think?
Here again, they don’t care about ANY human souls. Doesn’t matter whether their German, or American. But, I think it’s chaney that gets off on the torture of other human beings. I’m not sure the shrub is ever sober enough to figure it out. Even if he was, he still wouldn’t connect.

:( why?
AV guy,

This would be because if they hear the case, the results would make it clear to those who don’t already know, that the US has been in violation of the worst crimes in the world…crimes at the very top of the chart of WORLD crimes. Crimes against humanity. There would be no way to avoid this coming out, (not that most of the world doesn’t already know). But, that’s the reason.

So, the only way this is going to be resolved via intended protocol, is in an International Court. For now, Dick Bush runs it as well. But, if we can ever get rid of them, we may be able to bring this case to that court.

OR….(and this might be more successful) Khaled el-Masri could take his case directly to the Int’l Court of Justice. That’s what I’m hoping he’ll do. No guarantees even there, but it would still expose this murderous regime for what it is.

Surprised, not at all.  This is what you get when you behave like sheep.  We haven’t begun to see the damage this admin has done to this country.  Elections do count and for a lot longer then 4 or 8 years.  WE NEED TERM LIMITS AND PUBLIC CAMPAIGN FINANCE to start.  OPEN ACCOUNTABILITY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, A RETURN TO RULE OF LAW AND THE CONSTITUTION!  Why not start with mandatory voting, or at least open polls for one full week.  Every single vote needs to be counted and counted properly and verified.  No calling election results before each and every vote is counted.  It’s time to let the Supreme Court know they will be expected to do their job, unbiased, for the good of the COUNTRY, not their party!  You know, we can do this, and it’s not that hard.  Tell the sheep herders to go back to their Sunday Sermon and get the hell out of government…...

Ditto Thomas!!

I think we’re worse than a Bannana Republic. I’m too disgusted and pissed off to lay out the differences.

Who would have ever thought, that we could reverse this far back?

It’s our new Constitution it’s called the Patriot Act. Do what you want to whomever you want and you might get a I’m sorry if the government or lies or fucks up.
Torture is the new way we conduct business. The lying President says we don’t torture. Let’s do to Him, Cheney, Rice, and their families what our government does to people we capture. Let’s video tape it for all Americans to enjoy, and let us decide whether or not we torture. Then let’s repeat that same method on all of the Politicians and Judges who agree with The Decider and then we’ll see if we have a change in policy.

What a bannana republic we have become. The dictator does whatever he wants and their is no redress because of state secrets.Ah the Russians would be so proud. We defeated the Russians in the cold war but we have kept alive the worst aspects of the old Soviet Union.State secrecy and show trials. There is no secrecy here just a conspiracy to keep from the American public the illegality of what this administration has done on our behalf.Do not think it cannot happen to you.One misinterperted e mail one joke that some moron in a suit listening on an illegal wire tap does not get and that is you.Remember the old ww2 quote"when the Nazis came to take the Gypsys no one spoke up ,when they came to take the gays no one spoke up ,when they came to take the jews no one spoke up ,when they came to take me there was no one to speak up.
