Larry Craig

Sen. Larry Craig has joined that elite group of Idahoans who make up the Idaho Hall of Fame. Yes, there really is an Idaho Hall of Fame, and the country’s most famous bathroom visitor is now really a member.

The decision to add Craig to the roster of such notables as Lt. Gov. Jim Risch and Boise State University football coach Chris Petersen was made before his legal woes, but that’s no consolation to state Republicans who are desperately waiting for this story to die.

AP via CNN:

The nonprofit Idaho Hall of Fame Association picked Craig in March, months before he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct after a Minneapolis airport police officer accused him of soliciting sex in the men’s restroom, the organization’s board chairman said.

“Larry Craig has made a great contribution to Idaho over the period of 20-some years. At the time it was considered, this other matter had not come up,” Harry Magnuson told The Spokesman-Review newspaper Saturday.

But some Republicans said the honor is inappropriate now. Kootenai County Republican precinct committeeman Phil Thompson said Idaho Hall of Fame officials should consider at least postponing the induction.

Given his current difficulties, there is a growing movement among Idaho Republicans to “stall” Craig’s induction until after he retires. They seem to be put off by his cocksure defiance for some reason.

Hall of Shame seems to be more appropreate. How about a Madam Tussad’s wax ststue of Larry Craig on a toilet with that wide stance. What a money maker that would be. We can all show our children what Family values are all about.

Judge G. Harold Carswell, who in 1948 had publicly endorsed segregation(rejected Nixon appointee to the Supremes) had a similar problem. if I remember correctly. It was his “bathroom behavior” (with a minor as I recall) that got his nomination quashed, not his support for segregation.

Of course back than (in the early Seventies) we had more important issues taking up our time. The bathroom tale didn’t get a lot of press.

A wonderful reminder of getting what you pay for, or vote for.  I’m all for it.

I think they should engrave his picture and his “Hall of Fame” Award on the cubicle door of the airport washroom he’s made famous.

Better yet… change the “Occupied” sign from the generic to something special… like “The Senator is In” and restrict that “wide-stance” cubicle for Craig’s use only!

Even better… install a live webcam so we can all watch the choreography and gymnastics!

Hall Of Fame whould be renamed as Hall Of Male Prostitute and Craig will surely be chairman for life.

When they inducted him I think they misunderstood what” wide stance” meant.Idaho it has nothing to do with baseball.
