Musharraf Wheels and Deals as Election Looms in PakistanPosted on Oct 5, 2007
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf is busily offering olive branches, and even pledging to resign his military post in the near future, during the final hours before Saturday’s presidential election. It looks like his strategy may work, as the election is expected to result in victory for Musharraf, even as his legitimacy as a candidate is being contested and reviewed by the nation’s top court.

Ughh! “The President initiated the process of turning his vision into reality when he gave the nation the following seven point agenda….. God has brought me to this point. God has chosen me for leading this country….” http://www.presidentofpakistan.gov.pk/PresidentsVision.aspx

There’s something about this guy which really bugs me. He’s pretending that his country, Pakistan, is a functioning democracy by holding a fake “presidential election”.
Its just like GWB except that Pakistanis are unlikely to be fooled into voting for him. This is a mirror image of what the Bush Neocon regime would have been like if a few more ‘subtle’ changes had been made after 9/11.
Quote Wiki: “Musharraf became de facto Head of Government ....and assuming extensive powers…. following a bloodless coup d’état on 12 October 1999. He took power… ousting Nawaz Sharif, the elected Prime Minister, thereby assuming the title of Chief Executive. Later on, he also assumed office of President of Pakistan….”
The then president Sharif has already recently returned to Pakistan only to have his plane turned around at the airport and sent off to some renditioning prison in S.Arabia! Later this week, the other deposed president, Ms. Benazir Bhutto, will return to Pakistan to an uncertain welcome, too.
Karachi will be a hot town for the next few days - or months!?!?

Yet another myth that all of us who bothered to read bites the dust.Remember if our good friend the dictator Musharaff is forced from power Al Qaida will take over and they will have the bomb.Well the Pakistanis as everyone knew are rooted in a democratic tradition and would have unseated this tin horn dictator sooner if it were not for our support.Radical Islamists on their best day have garnered only 15% of the population.I guess we only support Democracy in countries where we have a shot their oil.
