Gen. Pace on Gays and ‘God’s Law’

Posted on Sep 27, 2007

While attempting to clarify his previous remarks on the immorality of homosexuality, outgoing Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Peter Pace on Wednesday managed to put his foot even deeper into his mouth, saying that, while he’s willing to keep an open mind, our nation should not “condone activity [read: gay sex] that, in my upbringing, is counter to God’s law.”

Pace, who retires next week, said he was seeking to clarify similar remarks he made in spring, which he said were misreported.

“Are there wonderful Americans who happen to be homosexual serving in the military? Yes,” he told the Senate Appropriations Committee during a hearing focused on the Pentagon’s 2008 war spending request.

“We need to be very precise then, about what I said wearing my stars and being very conscious of it,” he added. “And that is, very simply, that we should respect those who want to serve the nation but not through the law of the land, condone activity that, in my upbringing, is counter to God’s law.”

I always like to remind the Homophobes that the only time a persons sexual preference matters is when you are planning to have sex with that person.

Really people, I think you missed the point.

Quote from article: “that in my upbringing is not right,” Pace said.”

And I agree with Gen. Pace, except for one itty bitty thing…..I think we ought to do only what in MY upbringing was “right”.  Are you guys good with that?

Right, Eva - “You all need to open up the Bible and read what it says…”

Nowhere in ANY bible will you even find the word “HOMOSEXUALITY.”

In one place IN THE ENTIRE BIBLE, in the real lunatic chapter called “Leviticus,” is “man lieth with man” an “abomination” (along with wearing clothing made from two kinds of cloth and other such silly, stupid nonsense that only an IDIOT would accept as any “God’s Law”).

CHRIST SAID NOTHING ABOUT GAYS AND LESBIANS. Don’t you think that if it was such an issue He’d have mentioned it somewhere along the line?

And, by the way, NOWHERE in the bible is LESBIAN even mentioned - woman lying with woman - NOT A WORD.

So, EVA how about YOU reading WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS, not what you’d like it to say.

I’m really sick of the lying garbage spewed by the frightened, tiny minds of sick, homophobic hypocrites such as displayed by Eva.

Wow, so many excellent posts on this subject.

Eva’s comments, of course, border on the humorous. Now there’s one very unhappy camper. While reading that hell, fire and brimstone diatribe, I felt I was present at an 1840 revival meeting.

To P.T.: Separate barracks? As Old Tom said, gays have always been in the military and somehow wars were fought. No need to change anything.

And as all others, Mike Mid-City, Greg Anderson, C Quill, Mary, and RAE pointed out, the hypocrisy of this guy’s remarks are off the charts.

But at the end of the day - sadly - his narrow, inconsistent, and indefensible statements barely cause more than a backpage footnote in the media. Where is the outrage? How did this insensitive idiot achieve his rank and why isn’t he be scalded by the press? Where is the outrage!?

In response to 102984 by RAE: can you name off all of the “Ten Commandments?”  Bet Not!

As for the rest of you, homosexuality is against God.  God destroyed an entire city because of the immorality of homosexuality.

As for the persecution of Christians, we do not hate people, we disagree with the Satinistic behaviors of others, God says hate the sin not the person.

You all need to open up the Bible and read what it says, you would open your eyes to your future in the lakes of burning sulpher, that is what hell is called in the Bible.

Unsat indeed !
Thanks for the flashback Mike Mid-City.

All militaries past, present, and future have homosexual members.  The simple reason is that militaries muster their troops from every corner of society, and this is one of the great things about individual service- working with people from every neighborhood in the country.  Anyone who has ever served will tell you that there were gays in their outfit, and the ones who were discrete were allowed to serve with honor.  That’s reality.

Regarding PT’s question: sex in the barracks is forbidden.  Some people break the rules, and sometimes they get caught, and sometimes they are punished. Just like with every other rule. That’s reality.

The issue here is not gays in the military - they are already there.  The issue is kicking people out for having sex.  Pace says all sex outside marraige is immoral.  Is he going to kick out all the 19 year old sailors for engaging prostitutes in the Phillipines?  He’d lose half the Navy - all straight. They have alrady kicked out dozens of gay Army Arabic translators, and who know how many lives this has cost.

Pace rose to where he is BECAUSE he sounds like just another sheep. He is not brave to invoke his godly upbringing, he is hiding from the truth because he is scared of it. Hiding behind religion.  Unwilling to show his own thoughts. It’s people’s own insecurity that makes this a difficult issue.  They are afraid of being called a gay or gay supporter, so they allow themselves to be misguided by their own fear.

A truly brave man will say, I am confident in who I am, I understand that reality does not value my opinions, and there are a hell of a lot of issues regarding which I am not qualified to judge.  My beliefs belong to me, and yours belong to you.

If this jerk wanted to be godly and consistent, he would advocate discharges for all unmarried fornicators.  But that would basically dissolve the military.

Invoking God’s law (which is nowhere codified, unless you want to promote a specific religion-which is forbidden) when he already has sworn to uphold the US Constitution is a coward’s trick to avoid dealing with reality.

They pick on gays because they are an easy target- a minority who has been made to feel ashamed for who they are.  This is another coward’s trick.

Pace swore that he would support and defend the US Constitution, which includes the law forbidding the governnmental establishment of religion.  Then he says his religion is the reason for his governmental policy decision.  Totally unsat!

Any nation that allows its “authorities” to govern them by the irrational, illogical, insane dictates of “God’s Law” GETS EXACTLY WHAT IT DESERVES.

I’ll bet this General couldn’t even list all 10 of the Commandments without a cheat sheet.

General Pace, your views are so “sheep-like”.  How in the world did you make it so far up the ladder.  I never got the connection between war and God these guys seem to make.  What really confuses me is how you seem to think only people who think like you are God’s children.  This country is so over you and your kind.  And just for the record, I absolutely believe in God, I just don’t buy Pace’s “read” on what is God’s law.  Another reason why religion does not belong in Government or the Military….....

I don’t remember anything about homosexuality in the big ten do’s and don’t's.

There were a few other things, though.

Killing, stealing, lying, coveting the goods of others, as well as keeping the sabbath holy (I don’t remember a ceasefire every Sunday) or taking the lord’s name in vain (this war is god’s will).

That’s six out of ten, Gen. Pace.

You lose.

Ok, did he sound a little like a Muslim extremist to anyone else?

When you begin to blur the lines between Government, religion and the military, are you not creating a fascist state??

Isn’t that what the radical Islamic extremist’s do, make Islam, the government and military all rolled into one as the ruling party.  Any disagreement with the ruling party then becomes blasphemy, or besmirching our valiant military……

Ask these questions:

*Why is our government letting the military address god and Morals?

* Why is our government using military personal to explain our government policies?

*Why is the government (bush) using religion to defend and justify all his decisions, good and bad (mainly bad?)

I will tell you why.  If Bush and the neo-cons and the 30% fundamental (extremists) Christians had their way we would operate just like Saddam Hussein did only substituting their god for our god????  Can you say Holy @%*#+ Shit!

I used to sign off my comments as “proud to be an American but lately embarrassed”

Now I am signing off as follows;

Proud of my country but ashamed and embarrassed to be an American

In the military, men and women have separate barracks.  Among those persons pressing for gays in the military, what is the plan for the barracks?  Would gays and straights share the same barracks or have separate ones?  Would sexual activity be banned?
