The Navy plans to spend $600,000 to obscure a San Diego-area building complex that happens to be shaped like a swastika. The buildings have been around since the 1960s and for years no one seemed to mind, but that was before the advent of Google Earth.

Los Angeles Times:

From the ground and from inside nearby buildings, the controversial shape cannot be seen. Nor are there any civilian or military landing patterns that provide such a view to airline passengers.

But once people began looking at satellite images from Google Earth, they started commenting about on blogs and websites about how much the buildings resembled the symbol used by the Nazis.

This is no surprise nor is it an accident.
Whomever designed the layout of the acreage and the building of the structures, had it all drawn out on paper first! It was most likely not only accepted at the time but probably even caused some winks and nods.
Don’t forget that some in our gov’t offices including the whitehouse have always been fond of Hitler and his cause.
They racked up most of the old family fortune by investing in the cause.

Whaddya know, there is even a cute little old “White House” in Frankfurt, Germay, too - in Wiesenhuttenplatz! (1,000 year old).

Better knock down that one in Pennsylvania Avenue sometime soon as well, eh? Ugly thing!

Don’t worry, in another ten years we will rebuild the Pentagon for being to close to another dubious symbol.

Anyway, it’s an insult to Hindus, the Hopis and Europeans as well. In a Danish church ‘Vildbjerg Kirke’ the chairs are decorated with guilded swastikas (pre WWII), the swastika was also a symbol used by the Carlsberg breweries. They even have (had?) a floor featuring a giant swastika. It is an old Germanic symbol.

This is an outrage!

Congress should legislate immediately for Haliburton to get a no-tender, unlimited budget contract to re-shape the offending building into a tasteful Star of David.

It’s thea least we Americans can do!

Anything less would be outright anti-Semitism.

Spend the 600,000 on care for the returning vets. Or better yet, those people or groups who pressured the pNavy to waste money on alterations should raise the money privately. This makes no sense completely to try to eradicate a symbol from history. It took 40 years after the war for the US army to conclude that the shape of German helmets gave more protection to the soldier wearing it. We should have changed the shape of our helmets immidaitely after the war if this hlemet design afforded more protection to our soldiers.

You’re telling me no one saw this on the Blueprints back then?  Even so, I don’t see why anyone is getting worked up about it unless there is some proof it was purposeful (like interviews with the architects). That was a symbol that actually had a vogue in a lot of places in early 20th century.  I’ve seen them on old light poles in Glendale CA.  Do we have to scrub our history because of the history of another nation?

Mind you that I am as offended by Nazism as anyone, but I think we need to be sure we are focusing on the ideology rather than the symbols.

this building has been one of my rotating screen savers for years. it never ceases to amaze me, the idiocy of what people consider worthy of attention. i wonder if this was the architect’s idea of a good joke. right up there with light bright circuit boards giving you the finger and circuit board “art” on a t shirt.

This is the form of the St George Cross - what’s the big deal.  Yes it was used on the Nazi flag, but that was along time ago.

Now they are going to spend 600,000 to reshape, why not spend the money on the care of returning vets.

Don’t worry, the rest of the world already knows who and what you are, and that’s all that’ll really matter in the end.

Spin and damage control as some have suggested can only add up to poor slob taxpayers at the check-out line.  In the meantime, there’ll be millions more donated to memorials, “Lest we forget.” Go f***in’ figure.  Just change the name of the building to something,Memorial.  That should only cost a couple billion.

When I was attending university, there was a Wendy’s close by that had four booth tables set up in the same configuration - the top of the backs formed a swastika.  We figured it was an honest mistake, but often filled out the customer comment cards expressing righteous outrage.  It was good for a laugh.

Not unlike the word “religion” itself, beautiful in its own right, the swastika has a long history of its own that reaches back ages before Hitler ever took his first breath…
Symbolisim is of course very important, its is very sad, tragic even, that in our time we live to see too many symbols of beauty, respect, intelligence, wisdom, compassion, creativity, hijacked and used for purposes never intended or imagined by their original creators or designers.

I absolutely do not disagree with the comparisons in the case of the building, nor is the history of the Bush family back to grandad undenialable…add Schwarzenegger to that list as well please…

If the language of German is the only language allowed to be spoken inside of course that would be very unusual to say the least. Although lets be clear, GERMAN itself is not an evil language, only when its viewed through the eyes of the ignorant and unfortunate Americans who haven’t yet grown beyond the demonization of all things German in our schools.

It pains me to no end to watch the USA itself being used in the same way the swastika was used, around the world, as a weapon of fear.
What we as Americans stand for is being demonized much the same way the swastika was adopted and used to demonize Germans as a result of Hitlers actions.
The same way the word Religion was adopted and used, the official definition of religion is “not” Christianity, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Buddisim, or all thiings Godlike.

But how many people, young people, our future, in America are aware of the true meaning of these symbols/words??? Let alone even care?

We should use tax dollars to fix “ignorance”, not a building…

I agree there is to much imbreeding within the political system. In fact doesn’t that fiancee of Jenna Bush look a lot like her,at first glance they looked like brother and sister,or half brother or maybe cousins. And his dad has been steeped in the repukelican corrupt machine for a very long time. Maybe old G.W. did some swinging in his younger days. Can we say wife swapping?

As for the building:

The shape of things to come, again.Guess who’s grandpappy helped $$ Hitler. Yep, the wuss in the white house. And isn’t there that new terminal with all the artwork depecting the holocaust on the walls, ceilings and displays that was recently opened in this country? Looks like the PTB are getting everything locked in place for their total ruination of the country formally known as America and all set up for their own version of a dictatorship. After all Bush has been yelling about wanting to make America a dictatorship since before 1996 and when he was governor in Texas, and several more times since he stole the elections and was handed the presidency. That comment from him, witnessed on more that 10 public occassions, should have been more than enough to have him imprisoned as a traitor to America, and it certainly should have disqualified him for ever being the president of this country when his intention for this country all along has been to destroy it from the inside out and turn us into Nazi America, home of the paid killers and the formally free.

Why bother wasting taxpayer money to supposedly hide this building when its symbol is beholden to this presidents personal history. Due old Prescott proud doesn’t it.

So, this is where all the Nazis fled to, eh?? Can only happen in the USA? Try Germany 1930’s- 40’s!!!

Then again, “Educating the West About Hindu Symbol Swastika” has become an issue because of the negativity attached to this ancient and holy symbol. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika or search “Hindu swastika” for a better understanding.

I think I now see what’s happening in America. It’s the same thing that happened before the fall of Rome.

Too much in-breeding and no turn-over in our political system. It’s the same families inter-marrying and sprouting dim-witted idiot sons and daughters who then move into theri “rightful” place in the system.

God help us if we realize that the pyramid shape symbolizes the reign of the Egyptian Kings!!

I’ve been thinking about this all night.  Then I remembered the guy who who had the idea to turn the Creationist Museum in Kentucky into a museum of what can happen when religion goes to far.

So…..I was thinking….I don’t think we should “obscure” this building, but rather turn it into a museum.  One that will show the Bush/Cheney administration crimes, the military-industrial players and their crimes and efforts to gain control of the world using America’s military superiority.

We could call it: “Turn of the Century Crimes Cathedral” museum.  Or maybe: “The New World Order Nazi Museum”  Or possibly: The Swaggart, Swastika and Shitforbrains Museum.  I’m totally open to suggestion here.

They wanted their shrine, I say let’s GIVE IT TO EM’.

So now it’s going to cost the taxpayer another $600K to convert the swastika shaped building complex into a hammer and sickle shaped building complex. I can’t wait to see the design Haliburton comes up with.

A very fitting and natural progression for our government.

Well….would you looky there…....  Right there in front of us ALL that time.  What’s really retarded is that it apparently meant so much they actually built the thing.  No wonder Blackwater wants its base “outside San Diego”, it’s capitol is there.

Makes you wonder if those groups who show the Pentagon and Washington D.C. streets as the model of a satanic star are all that far off.

The Nazis have had a firm foothold in the US ever since WWII.  Through Bush, they have stealthily taken control of all the important agencies and corporations to stage a coup of the entire country. They are currently developing plans for a new holocaust which will not target Jews but African Americans.

The terror story is a lie and a pretext for persecution of anyone they choose. Don’t take my word for it, however, google “Prescott Bush” and follow the trail.

“Obscure”

The Russians, Chinese and private enterprise have space based camera’s which can “see” S-2 and other sensitive sites.

The only reason many of the major sensitive sites are obscured from google earth is to hide them from the U.S. population as our percieved enemy has better optics.

Anyhow, who needs the mere symbols of Nazism, here in these latter days, when the real thing is waging a blitzkreig right now on the ragged remnants of the allamerican republic?

This thing has been kicking around the web for a while now. It’s been the butt of more than a few jokes and been featured in a few of the fads on YTMND.

In the end, as shocking as it is that something like this could be built (um, no one looked at the blue prints and said waaaaaaait a minute?) it’s all rather silly and I for one hope they don’t intend on spending too many taxpayer’s dollars to “obscure” the things. What “obscure” actually means is rather mysterious which I suppose means it will cost a fortune…

Let me guess! This is where some of the last aging Nazi’s who were brought into the USA after WW-II under Operation Paperclip went to work for the CIAZ or Naval Intellegence in their waining retirement years. Wonder if they got a cuckoo clock with a chirping Hitler figure instead of a cuckoo bird ?
