As a group of women in Saudi Arabia mobilize to petition the government to lift its ban on female drivers, fellow Saudis give their opinions on the issue in this interview roundup by the BBC.


BBC:

If the current government were strong enough they could make it happen, but I don’t think they want to. They are frightened of being accused of deviating from Islam.

Every time they are asked about it, they say it will come naturally. But if we lived in a natural society, women would have been driving as soon as cars began.

There was no problem with women riding camels and donkeys in the past. What’s wrong with cars?

Driving in a burka… That’s got to be a problem. If they want to drive they need to lose the whole religious thing, not natural at all in their current mind set.

As far as I am concerned the Saudi royalty are a criminal class that has stolen trillions of dollars for their own personal benefit…and the U.S. has willingly helped.
