Arctic Land Grab Update: Russia Claims Victory

Russian officials say they have proof to back up Moscow’s claim to the north pole—and nearly half a million square miles of neutral Arctic territory—but don’t expect Denmark, Canada and the U.S. to go down without a fight. It’s all part of a nakedly opportunistic attempt to cash in on energy resources made available by global warming and melting ice caps.

BBC:

Under a United Nations convention, the country claiming ownership of the region’s ocean floor must show evidence that the seabed is an extension of their continental shelf.

Moscow has repeatedly argued that the Lomonosov Ridge is part of its land mass—and now the Natural Resources Ministry believes it has the proof.

The ministry said analysis of samples from the ridge—taken in May and June—showed “the structure of the underwater Lomonosov mountain chain is similar to the world’s other continental shelves”.

What difference does it make now who exploites the oil reserves?  Russian or American?  How many soldiers have to die to make Dick Cheney and his friends richer than they already are?

Oh, I forgot, Blackwater is about to take over the Pentagon so its a moot point regarding American Soldiers.  The beautiful symmetry of Petro-Dollars and private Military contractors will be maintained.

Check out the latest stock market investments.  Big money to be made if you don’t mind your greenbacks soaked in blood.

The oil wars continue.Instead of a Marshall Plan to get off oil we are much happier sending our boys off to war.I wonder if we fight up there will it be to give the polar bears freedom from Russian tyranny.Or will Cheney come out and state that the a polar bear also met with Atta in Czechkoslavakia prior to 911.Or will there be a leaked CIA memo that Bin Laden is hiding in an Igloo close to the north pole.Makes as much sense as the shit they are selling currently.
