No grazie:  The Vatican’s polite rejection of Rice’s request to visit the Pope in Italy may reflect his opinions about the Bush administration’s Mideast policy.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice may be persona non grata at the Vatican.  When Rice swung through Italy in August, she gave notice ahead of time about her hopes to meet with Pope Benedict XVI, but the pontiff’s camp politely rebuffed her request, explaining that he was on holiday.

AFP via Breitbart.com:

Rice “made it known to the Vatican that she absolutely had to meet the pope” to boost her diplomatic “credit” ahead of a trip to the Middle East, the Corriere della Sera daily reported without citing its sources.

She was hoping to meet the pontiff at his summer residence of Castel Gandolfo at the beginning of August, it said.

“The pope is on holiday,” was the official response, the paper said.

It said the reply “illustrated the divergence of view” between the Vatican and the White House about the “initiatives of the Bush administration in the Middle East.”

...“I wouldn’t walk across the street to meet with “Condi” let alone break into my vacation time to do so.”...

Well Rae, just between us, I’ve actually threatened to kick her ass right off the Golden Gate bridge if she even THINKS about making good on her threat to “retire” to California. This state ain’t big enough for both of us, and I was here first. (even though she’s older than me)

Farmertx,

Thanks for the clarification on our State’s relationship with the Vatican. That’s the real reason, but politics plays heavy there.

And by now, any US official with ANY measure of brain activity, should know that the Pope, (this one as well as John Paul) have consistently spoken out against the barbaric imperial intentions of this administration. I mean, they’ve made no secret of it at all!!

So, this is just another of the same ignorant arrogance with which this team operates. Nevermind that the Vatican has been calling bush on his lack of human decency for over a decade. (John Paul made a direct plea to him if you remember, on behalf of Karla Faye Tucker.) George put her down anyway, like he did with at least a dozen others when he was the Shrub of Texas).

So, it’s like they just do whatever the hell they want, burn up a whole nation, while the rest of the world pleads with them to stop, (including the Vatican), and then they come along and expect to have tea when they’re in town,(and need a favor).

The arrogance never ceases to amaze me.

Her “Blow Job” policy has been flushed out of the Vatican toilet. And the Pontiff will never need Condi Rice’s mouth to satisfy him.

Rowdy,I agree that it is a waste of time and money.
But the reason the Vatican gets Diplomatic Status is that it is a City-State, sovereign from Italy proper.
Don’t make it right, but that’s the reason no other Church has Diplomatic Status.

Condi is ‘dissing’ US.  Where has her impressive diplomatic skills been used.  She won’t talk to Syria, Iran, North Korea…nobody.  How is it possible to solve a problem if one won’t even acknowledge the other side.

Her ‘Stick’ is much larger than her ‘carrot’.  Worse her carrots offer no nuitrients.  Sad.  She is extremely talented..yet her specialty is Russia affairs.  NOT IRAQ.

Richard Armitage said it best, ” US foreign policy is being played like 5 year olds play soccer.  Everyone runs to the ball at the same time”.  Something like that.  Iraq has destroyed the State Department.

Think about it..The Pentagon(warfare) budget is how much larger than the StateDep(diplomacy)?

we the people, MUST alter that equation.  Speak softly and people listen.  Scream or give the silent treatment..people shut you out.

Anyways…did you know Adm. Fallon is on a 10 day Containment Tour of the Gulf states

...and still no Condi!  She’s off trying to get ‘pimped by the Pope’

I never thought I’d see the day when the Pope and I would have anything in common but, surprise, surprise!

I wouldn’t walk across the street to meet with “Condi” let alone break into my vacation time to do so.

This is some of the blow-back Ron Paul is speaking about.

It’s not really hard to understand. Most of us learned about it by the third grade.

Condi and bu$h league, If you swagger around the play-ground picking on those smaller than you, it feels good doesn’t it. Until the day you need someone to stand up for you and there’s nobody around.

Imagine that meeting of the mindless.

Condie: “Your Hollowness, in your expert opinion, what is the surest way to insult the Islamic nations I will be visiting?”

Benny: “You are a woman, simply addressing them should be enough but for insurance appeal to their sense of reason.”

Condie: “Oh you are indeed a man among men. Hollowness, may I kiss your ring?”

Benny: “Hands off the bling biatch! Here, kiss the little pontiff!”

Condie: “Kiss my ass Hitler youth mofo. I don’t even do that for Pope George!”

Rowdy,

I’m pretty much with you on this question of why we should be having relations with ANY Church, or ANY brand. But…the reality is that it’s an important part of the real politik. Tradition I suppose.

Now I don’t like this Pope, but I’m tickled to pieces that he blew Condi off. Oh yes!!! That does make my day. wink

Only the Republicans here see the wisdom of associating with this administration. When the Pope will not meet with our Secretary Of State I guess that is saying that even George Bush’s buddy God has had enough.

sorry to say but the reason why the pope refused to see condi was because she is a black woman; remember the old coot is a nazi.

US Ambassador to the Vatican Francis Rooney said relations between Washington and the Holy See were close.
i suppose i have always known about this ambassador to the vatican. why are our tax dollars being pissed away on some cushy job for some mediocre bush appointee to suck at the rectum of this disgusting old fart? why don’t we have an ambassador to the church of england? why not one for the buddhists? why should we even have relations with any church of any brand?
