Bush Taps Former Judge to Head Justice Department

President Bush has selected former federal judge Michael Mukasey as his new attorney general. Mukasey has a reputation for being tough and impatient, which is fortunate considering that he’ll have only 15 months to turn around an ailing Justice Department.

AP:

Mukasey, the former chief U.S. district judge in the Manhattan courthouse just blocks from ground zero, will likely face a relatively smooth confirmation by a Democratic-led Senate that has demanded new Justice Department leadership for months. He replaces Alberto Gonzales, a Texan who announced his departure three weeks ago amid investigations that began with the firing of U.S. attorneys and mushroomed into doubts about his credibility.

Appointed to the bench in 1987 by President Reagan, Mukasey also worked for four years as a trial prosecutor in the U.S. attorney’s office in New York’s southern district— one of the Justice Department’s busiest and highest-profile offices in the country.

“The department faces challenges vastly different from those it faced when I was an assistant U.S. attorney 35 years ago,” Mukasey, 66, said as he stood next to Bush on the White House lawn. “But the principles that guide the department remain the same: to pursue justice by enforcing the law with unswerving fidelity to the Constitution.”

I agree with Thomas Billis: Never Give An Inch. At the bare minimum we should Demand full disclosure on the illegal attorney firings.

If it sounds to good to be true it probably is.This person may have an impeccable resume, however we have yet to see anything honest and trustworthy come forth from the people Bu$h chooses.Once in power is Michael Muckasey going to be loyal to the constitution or with the Bu$h?

His having no close personal ties to the Shrub is the best part.
But I wonder about his statement that ‘fidelity to the Constutution’ being one of his guiding prinicples.
How will that square with Shrubs’ prior ignoring the Constitution? Will he issue a ‘new’ ruling, setting aside the prior illegal ruling, or let the Brown Ones decisions stand?
Nor am I comfortable with his stated view that Shrubs’ use of Executive Privilege is proper.
Nothing the Shrub has done has been proper, aside from his saying God Bless America...and Pigpen told him to say that.

I could care less what the pundits say his qualifications are.If Bush is nominating you can be sure it is after he made sure if he drinks the Kool Aid.What a great reccommendation.Charles Schumer of the I voted for war not knowing whether Bush would go to war is saying this is an excellent choice. If the democrats were not the party of no balls they would fight this President tooth and nail if he nominated Jesus Christ himself to be attorney general. The point being since they will not impeach keep his limited mind distracted from any other damage he might do in the world. When Clinton was in power if he ate with a fork they said it was unamerican to eat with a fork. They knew how to fight. This is a battle for the country and the democrats are the best chance we have to regain our country.Granted it is a choice that sucks but maybe the democrats will have ball implants and learn how to fight for us.

Bush picks a wrong man ! He should select New England Patriots Bill Belichick as his new AG because Belichick is a champion of spying !
