San Francisco to Cover the Uninsured

The City by the Bay is launching a new initiative that aims to provide healthcare for all of the its uninsured residents. The plan is to pay for coverage with existing resources that are spent on more expensive—and less effective—emergency room and chronic care.

New York Times:

The initiative, known as Healthy San Francisco, is the first of its kind in the nation, and represents the latest attempt by state and local governments to patch a broken federal system.

It is financed mostly by the city, which is gambling that it can provide universal and sensibly managed care to the uninsured for about the amount being spent on their treatment now, often in emergency rooms.

After a two-month trial at two clinics in Chinatown, the program is scheduled to expand citywide to 20 other locations on Sept. 17.

Another good example of the insurance companies trying to get their hands on MORE WELFARE MONEY.  Did you notice how MORE private companies will be used to “broaden the availability of doctors”.  Yeah right.  Steal from the poor and give to the rich. The insurance companies want their foot in the door to “show” how well it works when they “handle” these things. They want things “set in stone” before Bush leaves office.  Of course, in California they always have Arnold.

These companies will do nothing different than they have been doing for over a decade. First, they’ll charge an outrageous premium, which the taxpayers will pay, then they’ll “cover” cheap diagnostic tests, the expensive ones won’t be covered.  After that, they’ll deny coverage much like they’ve been doing.  They’ll have every excuse in the world why your health coverage doesn’t cover an actual health NEED.

The doctors will get their kickbacks same as before, excuse me, BONUSES for non-treatment.  They’ll also get their BONUSES from the drug companies for prescribing “certain” medications. With enough incentive in the form of a dollar, you could keep alot of people “technically” healthy,...er….on paper anyway.  While you cover your rear-end by administering cheap “diagnostic” tests which could never uncover a serious illness.  They don’t want to find any of those, it’s not good come bonus time.

This is only going to HELP the crooked insurance companies and not the poor nor the general public who pays for it.  Any decent doctors will be so overbooked and pressured to “fall into line” that in the real world there won’t be any choices for people on these plans.  Aside from….do you want the crook or the liar?

Honest doctors, patients and taxpayers ALL LOSE, the only winners here will be the insurance companies.  AGAIN.

END PRIVATIZATION.

San Francisco is not providing “health care” to its uninsured residents.  What it is doing is providing “bill care”, wherein it takes money from productive citizens and uses it to pay the bills of its unproductive citizens who, by the way, have always received health care.

Do not confuse health care with getting someone else to pay your bills.  No one in this country is ever denied health care.
