Alberto Gonzales is stepping down, but he and the White House may still have to face the music. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid showed no sign of backing down following the resignation announcement: “Congress must get to the bottom of this mess and follow the facts where they lead, into the White House.”

AP:

Under Gonzales and Bush, “the Department of Justice suffered a severe crisis of leadership that allowed our justice system to be corrupted by political influence,” said Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., who has presided over the investigation into the firings of eight prosecutors whom Democrats say were axed for political reasons.

Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said the investigation would not end with Gonzales’ leaving.

“Congress must get to the bottom of this mess and follow the facts where they lead, into the White House,” said the Nevada Democrat.

Outraged, you are so right. Exactly where, I wonder..could he possibly escape to?

Well, I think that’s what all the property in Paraguay is for. They’ll set-up another kingdom there. That’s the escape plan.

I just hope we don’t let ‘em get away. I don’t think it should be allowed to happen.

My hispanic friends believe he is an insult to Hispanics.  How dare he pander to this corrupt regime, he who they hold up as an example of the American dream?  He is an insult to all Americans.

If Congress serves anything less then a full investigation into the corruption that has ruled our justice dept. and whitehouse for the past 7 years, it would be treason by our Congress!
Republican mantra is “Borrow and Spin”.

The country knew very little about G.W. Bush till Mr. Baker stepped forward and sold us the intellectually and morally challenged pretender. Both Baker and older Bush were very well aware of the puny abilities of the uncurious George.
The democratic system was tweaked at its roots and this led to the perversion of low and order in the USA and tragic destruction of Iraq.

The office of the Attorney General issued a brief statement saying only that Mr. Gonzales wishes to return to Texas and spend more time with Karl Rove.

Gone, but not forgotten indeed.
This whole administration will be long remembered as an ideal example of what happens when a cheerful idiot is manipulated into the WH and allowed to run amok, here and abroad.
As to investigating him and his actions, I would be willing to leave that be for now and concentrate on removing the Shootist and the Shrub before they duck (sic) up any more.
Then, charges could be filed against a long list of this administration’s sycophants and ‘enabler’s’.
The biggest problem will be in keeping them from running away to the Southern Cone.

It makes me extremely mad that this criminal gets to resign without any punishment. I would like to see him rot in jail for the crimes he has committed against the public interests.

Alberto:

As intelligent as I’m sure you are, what a fatal mistake you made.  Did you FORGET that the Nazi sympathizers were met with more disdain than many of the actually Nazi criminals?  Alberto, your face is known the world over….so where did you suppose you would go to live out your days….....?  Your small circle of “friends” will surely disown you.
