Malaysian Groups Rankled by Jesus CartoonPosted on Aug 23, 2007The Malaysian newspaper Makkal Osai is apologizing for running a cartoon image of Jesus Christ enjoying a beer and a cigarette on its front page, claiming it was a mistake made by an editor who had downloaded the image from the Web. However, Makkal Osai’s efforts to quell the controversy may not be sufficient for some religious groups, judging by last year’s flap over the infamous Muhammad cartoons.

#Quote BBC: “Now some members of Malaysia’s minority religions say they want the same treatment over this latest incident….”
Actually, this is a minor issue in itself but has some significance as minority rights have been more and more marginalized and suppressed by the Moslem majority in Malaysia until some of the government’s ministers and political advisors came under suspicion in a high-profile murder scandal last year which has recently come into the courts. Now, minoritiy religious and ethnic groups, mainly Indian, seem to be slowly fighting back.
A political advisor was charged with the murder of his former lover and mistress and of having police officers blow her body up with hand grenades or Cemtex/C4 explosives (either or both) in bushland. It hardly made the media here although it was briefly reported in Britain. Her name was Altantuya Shaaribuu and she was from Mongolia - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altantuya_Shaaribuu or search “Mongolian model Malaysia” . Apparently, they also had children together.

The difference is that images of Muhammad are forbidden under Islam, while Christianity itself uses images of Jesus.

A little argument with the interpretation of A Handmaid’s Tale - I think it was more about male dominance than religion. The men were using religion to justify and perpetuate their dominance over women.
(So what else is new?)

Rae: this is what G.W. has done for so long-repeat the fantsy-lie over and over for so long that he doesn’t know what reality is. Neither do all these religiously brainwashed people.
jfior: a friend told me about the handmaids tale and I saw the movie. It wouldn’t surprise me if this were to happen. Another book you might find of interest is ” Biblical Nonsense” by Jason Long. This book can be read in it’s entireity on line, just writein biblical nonsense and click search, well worth it. He has an example in there that should awaken the total believers. He suggested that two people be infected with something. Person 1 goes to the doctor, gets an antiboitic and is cured. Person 2 is only allowed to pray to their God to heal them. Person 2 refuses to be infected because deep down he knows that sooner or later he will have to go to the doctor-hospital or else die.Proof for the logocal mind, there will still be some who as they lay dying claim it is Gods will.

RAE, I agree with you…let the religious fight amongst themselves and leave the rest of us alone to live our lives peacefully…I think they should all just move to the Holy Land and be done with it…where they can stare at the sky and hope to see messiah return or whatever the hell makes them happy…as Hitchens appropriately states in his latest book, that isn’t possible though. The Judeo-Christian scriptures require trying to get people to convert…One could say that they need to infect more people with their lies and “faith” so they don’t feel like they are idiots…safety in numbers if you will….the “died in the wool faith heads” would state this differently to be sure, but I think they are being dishonest to some degree.
A great book on the subject of creating theocracies and living in a world with no tolerance for people who think differently than you is Margaret Atwood’s, “A Handmaids Tale” Strongly recommend that one.

I wonder if “believers,” Muslim or Christian, understand that THE FLIMSIER THE EVIDENCE SUPPORTING A BELIEF, THE MORE AGGRESSIVE A DEFENCE OF THAT BELIEF IS REQUIRED. When you don’t know what you’re talking about, you’ll believe ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
“Believers” just make it up, repeat it to each other until they eventually can no longer distinguish the fantasy from reality. It’s really sad. The human mind has a LONG WAY TO GO to reach MATURITY.
In the meantime, “believers,” have at it. Hack away at one another. Murder and beat and ostracize and banish in the name of your “beliefs.” I have no idea what you think you’re accomplishing but if you look at what this behavior has gained you in the last 2,000 years, it doesn’t bode well for what you’re going to gain in the future if you don’t change your thinking and ways.
Since you seem incapable of change, enjoy the hell on earth you’ve created for yourselves.
