Protest Bush or Get Rich TryingPosted on Aug 17, 2007
Nicole and Jeff Rank, who were arrested in 2004 for refusing to remove or cover their anti-Bush T-shirts at a presidential rally, have just won an $80,000 settlement from the federal government. In prosecuting the case, the ACLU learned that the president’s advance manual has little tolerance for free speech, saying: “As a last resort security should remove the demonstrators from the event.”

Smoking is one of the most common forms of recreational drug use. Tobacco smoking is today by far the most popular form of smoking and is practiced by over one billion people in the majority of all human societies. Most drugs that are smoked are considered to be addictive.Rates of smoking have leveled off or declined in the developed world but continue to rise in developing countries. Smoking rates in the United States have dropped by half from 1965 to 2006, falling from 42% to 20.8% in adults.

I bought this really great t-shirt at one of the powwows I was at a few years back.It says “HOMELAND SECURITY” there is a picture of four Apache men and I believe one is Geronimo on it all holding rifles.Under the picture it says “FIGHTING TERRORISM SINCE 1492”, I added the following comment to it, “DIDN’T WORK THEN, WON’T WORK NOW”. Now if I wear this can I expect to be interrogated by the gestapo of GW.Can I sue them for bucco bucks if they do? I got bills to pay.

I find it irritating that the title of this post is ‘Protest Bush or Get Rich’
The settlement is inconsequential. In fact I think $80,000 for a bogus arrest is Charleston’s way of putting a price tag on civil liberties and the Bush administration’s way of preventing the Ranks from taking this where it needs to go - the Supreme Court.
These people had their constitutionally guaranteed rights violated in order to appease President Bush. They weren’t being disruptive or obnoxious. They were just standing there wearing a tshirt with a message the administration didn’t want to hear. Nowhere in the US Constitution is there a grantor of that sort of power. In fact there are specific prohibitions against it.
Face is right-wingers. Terrorists and assassins aren’t going to show up to a Presidential appearance wearing clothing that will make them stand out. This isn’t about protecting the President from danger. It’s about isolating him from the people so he can continue to claim his nonsense ‘mandate’ and allowing the FedGov to take away civil rights because they think they can.
If you’re not angry you should be. Because this same power could be turned around and used against you or your children in the future when Bush’s Presidency is long since over. Precidents like this are ripe for abuse and should be immediately and swiftly challenged. If Bush wants this sort of power let him try to amend the constitution to get it. Otherwise he doesn’t get to do things like this. He is a President, not a king.

Anyone who advertises his objection to Bush-rule is probably the last person who is a security threat.
Remembering assassinations - Kennedy, King, Kennedy - all by little nameless, faceless nut cases who advertised absolutely nothing, points out yet again how idiot George and his crew of thugs continue to pursue harmless people while the dangerous guys continue to walk around free as birds.
Even if you like the man, at least recognize that your life is in jeopardy if he remains in office.

Where is Brutus when you need him? Bush the inferior is about to declare himself Ceaser, dictator for life and the senate is scared shitless of him.
This awol bushchimp is a clear and present danger to American freedom. He is a traitor to the constitution, has killed off all competition and forced corporate communism on all of us; robbed us, cheated us, killed us; we are helpless with the Republicrats who probably guess that his organ grinder Cheney has wiretap recordings on all of them….
This is a G.D. Greek Tradgedy!
We have got to put King George, who is dumber than the first King George we got rid of in 1775, in a straightjacket, and then scoop up Dumbsfield, Cheney and the whole sorry lot and present them to a international court for procecution on the charges of crimes against humanity. These are war criminals, and the only way our American way of life will survive is if we set the example for the world, and shine the light of the law down on these vipers.
The time for talking is over. American colonists started by boycotting everything from the offenders (England.) Our offenders are big business: Walmart, Exxon, mortgage, etc. If we all stop paying our bills until impeachment starts, the bush house of cards will come tumbling down….

Talk about “Deja’ Vu’” I just finished watching a program on how the Nixon regime spied on war protesters and put warrantless taps on John Lennon’s phones in an attempt to deport him because he was against the Vietnam war. Fortunately, they were unsucessful.
The Bush regime is more ruthless as they would have kidnapped Lennon and others and sent them to their secret jails, in other countries, to be tortured.
Did any of you notice we are never shown footage of the fighting in Iraq, as was shown day and night during WWII and the Vietnam war.
We are not allowed to see the flag draped coffins of our war dead being returned to us. Why?
King George allows ‘no Nicole and Jeff Ranks’ freedom of speech. In Bush’s world we have no right to see news footage of a war americans are dying in. We are lied to about the Tilman’s and Lynch’s that go off to fight for our country.
No more hearings, no more impeachment petitions, just a pink slip firing King George today.

While I’m glad to see this case settled and an award tendered to the victims of the over-zealous junta currently occupying the White House, it seems no small amount unfair that we, as taxpayers, are footing the bill.
The $80,000 should be coming directly from the pockets of BU$HCo. and not the taxpayers.

Now I understand why Governor Blunt of Missouri and his fellow Republicans in that state are trying to change the selection process for judges.
Instead of a non-partisan commission making the choice, the Guvernator has a better way. Let the Republicans pick them.

Ist you all good little nazis? herr bu$h and Frau Rove can’t cope with dissent (a lot like Hitler don’t you think).
Regarding the amount of the award. WE are paying bu$h and his cohorts serious money and some of our freedom to act likt they’re representing the will of the people. bu$h is always saying he knows the majority of “the people” believe in freedom and fighting in Iraq.
These folks should be payed a lot more for standing tall and reminding the Nazis in power that they’re still are ways to keep their averice in check.

The decimal point on that settlement would have to have been at least 6 digits to the right if it was going to serve as any measure of deterance to future governmental disregard of the first amendment.
That would make sense, except the money comes from our pockets. Not that I begrudge these two for a penny of it.
Report thisThe Shrub and his sycophants could care less about spending money from the public till. To them, that is why money is in the Treasury, to be spent, rather than to be used to do the things that one expects a Government to do.

Two excellent posts! Thank you!
You’ve both said it all.
Beating my drum…
Investigate 9/11.
Their 9/11 house of cards MUST come down or we will be in perpetual war and this country will cease to exist. They want to turn America into a police state, and they’re well on their way to accomplishing that…all based on the 9/11 LIE!

It doesn’t say much for a male (can’t call him a man) who can’t stand any dissent in a public forum.
Report thisJust like when the Shootist went to Afghanistan and had all American troops searched before they were admitted to the Mess Tent where he would speak.
Obviously, he was going to lie through his teeth and wanted no tape recording to emerge afterwards.
This whole team of Shrubs’ is dedicated only to his ideal of what the country should be; a place where the rich get richer and the Corporations can sell anything and not worry about deaths/injuries from the use of their product.
It took the American people a lot longer to wake up than I thought.
I honestly thought ‘04 would be the end of him. But he had the terrorist scare card, masterfully played, plus Diebolds’ magic voting machine.
It took another two years, until ‘06, for enough folks to realize that this guy had no clue.

When Bush took the oath of office he promised(lied) that he would uphold the Constitution of the United States. He has chosen to destroy it instead. What ever he doesn’t like to see or hear he tries to get rid of. If it is so unpleasant for him to see Freedom of Speech in action, he is in the wrong job and wrong country. We all know of his plan to make America a dictatorship and he can’t wait to do so.Just as long as he’s the dictator. After all his granddaddy helped $$ Hitler. These people running(?) things are so out of touch with reality that when anything that comes along that might WAKE them up to the real world is forbidden. Ignorance is bliss to these guys.Don’t burst that bubble they all operate in that protects them from everything outside their microcosoms.
I wonder when they will make us all dress alike as some other countries do,just like school uniforms.Oh great, another industry(fashion) bites the dust.
Now that weed had signed the July 17 2007 giant take away your right to protest his war law we cannot even hold a peace sign without the threat of losing all our assets and spending the rest of your life locked up in a FEMA concentration camp. The founding fathers of this country are spinning in their graves.
