Russian authorities are investigating a gruesome online video which shows the apparent execution of two men by a group calling itself “National Socialists of Rus.” According to the BBC, Russia has experienced a rise in ethnic violence over the last few years.

BBC:

The clip, which was posted on some websites, shows one man apparently being beheaded and the other shot.

Nope, Nazis just as the USSR followed far left politics.  Sorry but you are wrong.  They have been called far right by people who do not understand the political spectrum.  Communists are a form nationalism just as the Nazis.  No Socialists workers party can be right wing.  Right side of the political spectrum is for individual freedoms. Left wing is for state run social services that restrict freedoms. Nothing the Nazis stood for on their political platform fell on the right side of the political scale. If it did they would have let the market and schools worked themselves out and not nationalized them just as the left in America and around the world is today with their own nations.

WOW - icehandluke - get a history book! Nazism is far LEFT!??? Sorry to have to explain history to you - Nazism is far right! Far left groups are socialist - while nazism, also known as the national socialist german worker’s party, was a right wing group. Just because it has the word “socialist” in it - doesn’t mean its left wing. Far left wing groups believe in complete equality - while right wing groups believe in group SUPREMACY. Thus its reason for killing people to be inferior, (jews, homosexuals, the handicapped, etc). The nazi party was COMPLETELY capitalist, doing whatever it believed possible to help the economy, including killing the handicapped because Hitler didn’t want any german resources to help them. If nazi germany was far left, it would have done EVERYTHING possible to HELP the handicapped and give EQUAL rights to jews, homosexuals, etc. Left wing = liberalism.. Nazism = fascist = far right wing. A huge enemy to nazi germany were communists, thus their reason for banning of socialist democrats. WIKIPEDIA DEFINITION OF FAR RIGHT, “The terms extreme right or ultra right are used by some scholars to discuss only those right-wing political groups that step outside the boundaries of traditional electoral politics. This generally includes the revolutionary right, militant racial supremacists and religious extremists, fascists, neo-fascists, Nazis, and neo-Nazis.”

Lilmamzer, as a person of jewish heritage, I have no problem “calling a spade, a spade”.

OK, but are you a Jew?

Zionism is responsible for decades of deplorable acts, yet I don’t harbor Anti-semetic sentiments.

Of course you don’t.

I do however abhor the miopic views of people accepting these acts as “Israel’s need to survive”.

Does Venezuela need to survive? Does Vietnam need to survive? Does Iran need to survive? Does Denmark need to survive? Does Myanmar need to survive?

National Socialists of Rus is a far left wing group.  Not a right wing group.  BBC gets it wrong.  Nazis are left wing.  Socialists are never right wing and never will be.  Thats like saying turn off the dark.

The Government is pulling the same crap as any other.

Make a minority people a scapegoat to divert the blame of the poor economy.

This is where extremists come out of the woodwork and outwardly abuse it’s minorities.

Taavi you are on point.

You are surprisingli naďve. Russia is one of the most nationalistic societies and has been so during a long time.

Taavi, the editors at Truthdig are not naive; they are highly selective and manipulative in their ‘reporting’. This website is situated, ideologically, at the nexus of the far-left and the far-right, united in support for absolutist and tyrannical regimes and movements.

Just think about the antisemitism of the tzarist regime as well as the russification campaigns both before the bolshevist coup détat and after

You ask too much of the typical Truthdig reader to do this. Antisemitism is a cherished belief here, masquerading as anti-Zionism and incessant Israel-bashing, but frequently it appears naked and in plain sight.

You are surprisingli naďve. Russia is one of the most nationalistic societies and has been so during a long time. Just think about the antisemitism of the tzarist regime as well as the russification campaigns both before the bolshevist coup détat and after an Stalin being one of the most notorious nationalists there has ever been. The WWII was for ordinary Russians a heroic victory over a much hated enemy. But for Stalin it was a successfull nation building project worth about 20 million of own casualties. On the other hand, Nazism as such has always been popular in Eastern Europe. Mostly because it was decleared antibolsevic (dispite the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact).
Tens of thousends of Russians, Ukrainians and Belurussians participated in the WWII “on the wrong side” because they had no reason to believe that Stalin could be better dictator for them than Hitler.

The stupid skinheads who abuse and attack anyone looking caucasian (not the american sence of the word) or central asian, are doing it mostly for the same reasons as their buddies in the West. Personal failure and dissatisfaction with their own life being the core of that. So, thats somehow “normal”.

But the real problem is elsewhere. The broad masses in todays Russia are effectively brainwashed with Kremlin propaganda that is focusing on finding and sometimes even creating common enemies to hate in order to unite the Russian nation behind Putin. This has now created an environment where Chechnians, Georgians, Dagestani, Tadjikistani but also Estonians and Latvians are legitimate target of any kind of expression of hatred. In this light the distance between the killer skinheads and the popular putinjugend organizations as Nashi and Maladaja Gvardija is small. Disturbingly small.

And when Putin explains the horrible killings with that being “another one of the unfortunate results of the disintegration of the Soviet Union”, I become worried. Really worried.

This seems about as surprising as it is disturbing. The Russians suffered terribly under Nazi occupation, they were really a kind of ultimate bad-guy for them. That has to mean that these lunatics must remain well hidden, for I suspect many Russians would be happy to get vengence on them.
