NYC Downpour Causes Commuter Chaos

New York flood
wcbstv.com

Just be glad this wasn’t you on Wednesday morning (our condolences if it was):  Commuters push through a downpour in the New York area.

One of the best things about living in New York City has to be the public transportation—that is, except for days like Wednesday, when storms pummeled the city, damaging buildings, causing widespread flooding and displacing thousands of commuters.

wcbstv.com:

[Mayor Michael] Bloomberg spoke after touring the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn which felt the brunt of the storm. Officials from the National Weather Service surveyed the area to see if a tornado had touched down after dozens of trees, power lines and rooftops were tossed about the streets.

“Roughly 40 buildings are damaged seriously. There are lots of buildings that have minor damage. If I had to guess from walking down the street there’s gotta be 100 automobiles [damaged],” he said.

Floodwaters reached the third rail in several places along the miles of city subways, spurring a shutdown of the major subway lines that run under New York City.

Sounds like a general strike day to me. Maybe the rest of the week as well. They should just shut down the entire city.

As for the rest, (the WRATH if that’s what we’re calling it)that’s visible everywhere we look. There’s a wild fire up the road a bit from me, that has been burning since the 4th of July.

I live in NYC; New Yorkers are pissed, period.  But, this mornings thunder/lightning show was nothing short of amazing.

I hope comedian Dennis Miller happened to notice the flooding.  He had such a hoot awhile back on the Daily Show pooh-poohing global warming and how it might actually cause flooding in New York.  Imagine: flooding in New York! What ass-holes he concluded these climate scientists and Al Gore to be.  Now, who’s the ass hole?
