Joining forces for a press conference at Camp David on Monday, President Bush and Afghan President Hamid Karzai refused the Taliban’s proposal for a prisoner swap.  The Taliban says it will free the 21 surviving South Korean Christians kidnapped in Afghanistan on July 19 if captive Taliban members are released.

BBC:

In Seoul, a South Korean presidential spokesman said the government wanted to “work separately” from the Bush-Karzai summit to resolve the issue of the captive Christian aid workers.

About 100 protesters rallied near the US embassy in Seoul on Monday and handed in a letter addressed to Mr Bush.

Amen on missionaries not being in a country with an established religion, especially in a time of war or civil unrest.
Remember the two young gals that the Baptists’ sent to Afghanistan?
It is nice that their faith is strong enough to allow them the sense of safety. But when that sense of safety vanishes, it’s Send in the troops to rescue them. Luckily, in the incident I referenced, no troops had to be used.

Thank God Karzai speaks english so at least we can understand one of them. What are missionaries doing in area where they have a religion? This is not to say that they deserve what is happening to them but don’t our guys have enough to do in Afghanistan without adding safeguarding missionaries to the list.I know they think God will protect them but if a US soldier loses his life to protect missionaries who should not be there in the first place it is a travesty.Get these missionaries home safely and then get all missionaries out of US war zones.

“no “quid pro quo” over the 21 captives,”

OK, how about something else that has, to this point been alien to the Bush administration?

Compassion leading to diplomacy, leading to thoughtful dialogue, leading to something as foreign to this administration as all of the above ...
success.

Ok, I know ... cant happen. We can not negotiate with the terrorists. [Like we don’t already know that, duh. Look at the dead-ends we all drive into every time we try to get through to congress or the White House]

I got a new toilet yesterday. Fabulous! Who would’ve ever thought I’d get excited about a toilet? The thing is this toilet goes whoosh and everything is gone in a nanosecond! Proving smart people confronted with a problem [in this case 1.6 gallons per flush] can indeed find a better way.

But the thing that really got me about my new toilet ... drum roll please ...
it was made in Vietnam!

Who da thought?

The first thing that popped into my head at this discovery was,
“Is this what they meant when they said the red hordes would invade our shores if we left Vietnam?

Well folks, they have arrived and they make fabulous toilets!

Proving the lie that says we must fight war to protect our freedoms from those who want to destroy them.

And how many millions of people have died horrible needless deaths to keep this lie alive?

Guess that’s the price you have to pay when keeping profits flowing is more important than human life. Which brings me back to Bush and Karzai.

“In Seoul, a South Korean presidential spokesman said the government wanted to “work separately” from the Bush-Karzai summit to resolve the issue of the captive Christian aid workers.”

Well, at least the South Koreans are smart enough to recognize what our president and our congress [and loyal allies] are really all about.

Profits over human life.

And I wont even accept it’s all about oil anymore! Deals can be cut to keep the oil flowing. Just as deals can be cut to free hostages.

No, this is about a group of sadists who love money, power and getting off on watching real people with real feelings getting hurt!

So stand tall America and wiggle your little mini-flag.
You have become the United States of Sadism.

By the way, if I was rich I would send everyone of those lying “swift-boaters” a brand new “made in Vietnam” toilet. Just so they could stick their heads in it, go whoosh and be gone in a nanosecond!

RAE (#92634), the media have not given this very much attention; but those South Koreans who “clumped together and headed to Afghanistan” were MISSIONARIES!  People of faith do not read history (beyond any version of it in their chosen Scripture), particularly when it involves other people who are equally passionate about an opposing faith.  For that matter WE do not have to read history, since it is so easy to find other examples in today’s world (without looking very far).  Perhaps that is why the media have chosen to overlook this minor detail behind the hostage situation!

We all know that dealing with kidnapper’s, unless you have a plan to immediatly eliminate them, is a waste of time.
Though, you would think that one of those drones flying high enough to avoid detection from the eye could track the kidnapper’s and eliminate them at will.
‘Course they might be grounded to allow Halliburton to have a little extra money. Not that the Shrub would do that...but the Shootist, exercising his secret authority just might.

In this case a dog has to follow its master’ instruction. Only South Korean’s hostages will be sacrificed without compassion !

Two of the lamest ducks on the pond get together for a quack-fest.

The Bush duck relishes the attention, waving and smiling, accomplishes nothing. He hops into the drivers’ seat of his golf cart and roars off like he had any idea where the hell he was going or why.

The Karzai duck, complete with ridiculous flowing cape and winter wedgie, rushes to keep up, folding his cape for fear of leaving the ground, has no idea of where he’s going either, but anywhere there’s Bush there are idiots with cameras and mics to hang on every meaningless, powerless word.

Sorry, South Koreans… you guys are toast. What the hell were you thinking when you clumped together and headed to Afghanistan? Can’t you read HISTORY?

Having read the comments by both parties (originally on Al Jazeera English), I have concluded that this is a case of Mutual Illusion Reinforcement:
