U.S. and UK Want U.N. Back in Iraq

The United Nations hasn’t had much of a presence in Iraq since a car bomb blew up its headquarters back in 2003, but that could soon change. The U.S. and Britain have begun pushing a Security Council resolution that would expand the U.N.’s mandate in Iraq, with a focus on diplomacy and human rights.

BBC:

The draft resolution calls for more UN involvement in helping refugees to return and managing humanitarian aid and helping the entire national reconstruction effort.

It also points out the importance of armed protection by mainly US forces for any enhanced UN team on the ground.

Former Secretary General Kofi Annan pulled all UN international staff out of Iraq after the top UN envoy, Sergio Vieira de Mello, and 21 other people died in a huge explosion at the UN headquarters in Baghdad in August 2003.

Strange that a multi National force should need the UN. Stands to reason that UN Forces would be part of the multi National...well, unless that was just a sham.

Here in East Texas, a Republican stronghold, there have been some R’s who will privately admit that Shrub has been a disaster. His stand on immigration (of all things) alienated others.
But, like this Democrat, they are in the minority, for now, anyhow.

What you see is Bush setting up another cover to hide under and take the blame for his failures in Iraq.  In 2002/3 UN Security Council wanted the inspectors to do their job, but Bush wouldn’t have it.  His neocons told him to go along - he did.  He is where he is - ‘quagmired’ in Iraq.  Who would have thought this would happened?  Everybody, worldwide except Bush and his neocons.

...."Did all you Republican voters get what you wanted?"…

No Ed, I have a feeling that the Repubs didn’t get anything like they thought they were gonna get. But, they’re still in denial. They’d never admit it.

Bush and Brown are hoping for a United Nations bailout again.  But if the international organization is going to shill for the imperialist occupation, the Iraqis are going to attack the U.N. once more.  Here we go again.

Don’t the Republicans have nothing but contempt for the United Nations? Is the U.S. administration beginning to eat crow?

As I read the news today I think the bridge collapse in Minnesota may be a metaphor for what is happening to the U.S. Russia plants their flag at the North Pole to claim resources. China is playing peace-maker at the ASEAN Regional Forum. Meanwhile the U.S. is bogged down in Iraq destroying hundreds of thousands of lives and wasting hundreds of billions of dollars. Looks like Mr. Bush, MBA has squeezed out all the profits possible and is ready to sell off the country. This attempt to paint a rosy picture about the economy is absurd. A big bill is coming due.

Did all you Republican voters get what you wanted?
