U.N. Approves Peacekeepers for DarfurPosted on Jul 31, 2007The U.N. Security Council has unanimously approved the world’s largest peacekeeping force, with as many as 26,000 troops and police officers, to take over operations in Darfur. The joint effort between the U.N. and the African Union will have the necessary mandate to defend civilians and aid workers, but it remains unclear how quickly the force can be deployed.

Don’t all get excited. With the abundance of sub ‘machine gun’ contractors available are we sure they are not part of this ‘hybrid UN force’?
Blackwater has long eyed doing business with the UN in the Sudan. They see the Iraq war winding down and are looking for more opportunities for expansion and the continuation of their ‘soldier of fortune’ corporate business plan. Chris Taylor, head of strategy for Blackwater, stated in 2006 that
“(his company) has a database of thousands of former police and military officers for security assignments…Blackwater personnel could set up perimeters and guard Darfurian villages and refugee camp in support of the U.N.”
“There are a lot of crises in the world…so if they can get their foot in the door, it potentially opens up an entire new business sector” stated Peter Singer of the Brookings Institution.
Blackwater USA’s previous acknowledgment of wanting to pursue doing ‘business’ with the UN in the Sudan leads to an eerie suspicion that they are part of this new ‘hybrid’ force. Although billed by the UN and British officials, the new hybrid force will have a ‘predominantly African character’. What does that mean? Are they going to hire the rebels for cheap…Peruvians, Chileans, Fijians…Malyasians…Who? Triple Canopy Inc. has done the same in Iraq and worse…..they’ve had the contract to guard the Green Zone since 2005, not the U.S. or British military.

After decades of neglect by the world, finally some “commitment to improve the lives of the people of the region, and close this tragic chapter in Sudan’s history”. Given the history of the UN’s incompetence, I don’t think so!
Back to global politics and the USA has managed to get something for free from the UN - or, more likely, has made some backdoor deal. The reason - OIl - and to keep China out of E.Africa!
There we are, then - back to the ‘Cambodianisation’ of the ‘Vietnamisation’ of the Iraq conflict by the USA. Having been unsuccessufl in popularising their last bombing campaign, the USA has simply given the more unpleasant part to the UN. Suckers!

Sudan: Jews behind Darfur conflict
Sudanese defense minister says ‘24 Jewish organizations fueling conflict in Darfur’
Yaakov Lappin Published: 07.29.07, Israel News
Sudan’s defense minister, Abdel Rahim Mohamed Hussein, has accused “24 Jewish organizations” of “fueling the conflict in Darfur” last week in an interview with a Saudi newspaper.
Hussein was interviewed during an official state visit to the Saudi kingdom last week.
A journalist from Saudi Arabia’s Okaz newspaper asked Hussein: “Some people are talking about the penetration of Jewish organizations in Darfur and that there is no conflict there?”
“The Darfur issue is being fuelled by 24 Jewish organizations, who are making the largest amount of noise over the issue, and using the Holocaust in their campaigning,” the Sudanese defense minister replied.
Hussein added that the Darfur conflict was driven by “friction between farmers and herders and shepherds. Among the biggest problems is that of water, which is used to exploit the differences and fuel the conflict.”
“Are these Jewish groups supporting (the rebels) financially?,” the interviewer from Okaz asked Hussein.
“Yes, they provide political and material support through their control over the media and across American and British circles,” Hussein said, adding that Jewish groups were using “all means to fuel these conflicts.”
He added that Western reports of 200,000 people dying in Sudan were false, and said: “We talk about 9,000 dead as a result of either government or rebel actions.”
