Pakistani police have reported the apparent suicide of Abdullah Mehsud, a key Taliban commander who did 25 months at Guantanamo Bay.  Mehsud was in hiding in the southwestern Balochistan region of the country and blew himself up during a raid by Pakistani soldiers, according to the BBC.

BBC:

Pakistan interior ministry spokesman Javed Cheema told the AFP news agency that Mehsud blew himself up with a hand grenade after soldiers raided a hideout in the Zhob district of Balochistan.

“Abdullah Mehsud blew himself up with a grenade and died when security forces raided his hideout. Three of his accomplices were arrested,” he said.

Zhob is in a strongly Pashtun border area of Balochistan, not far from the troubled tribal area of South Waziristan.

WTF…why was a supposedly key Taliban Commander released from Gitmo when they have kept shoe salemen that pizzed off the local mayor locked up for 3 yrs?

Is this a joke, bad reporting, or a ‘reprogramming’ experiment gone bad?
