Former Surgeon General:  Gov’t Squelched Health Reports

Posted on Jul 10, 2007

In an incendiary report Tuesday to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, former Surgeon General Richard H. Carmona (who served from 2002 to 2006) pointed a finger at the Bush administration for prioritizing politics over truth.

Carmona contends that he was dissuaded by White House officials from speaking about stem cells, emergency contraception, sex education, or prison and mental and global health issues.  He also describes the efforts of top administration officials to manipulate a notable report on secondhand smoke.

Carmona’s testimony came two days before the Senate confirmation hearings of his designated successor, Dr. James W. Holsinger Jr., who was nominated this year by President Bush.

Akira,

You make a good point, (about the impeachment thing with cheney as the next in line by law)and that’s exactly what stopped most folks from doing anything a long time ago. We were temporarily “restricted” in our thinking.

That’s why NOW, we’ve figured out that we have to arrest/impeach CHENEY - FIRST. Doing that will automatically catch all the rest of them, in the same net, which I do believe is FINALLY tightening.

And, there are more and more signing on to the legistlation that was introduced by Kucinich, though a few others have proposed such legislation before.

So, I see hope, (at least far more than I’ve seen until now)if we could just get rid of him. We at least have to stop this destruction.

Huh…

You know, as terrible as things are going (I keep asking ‘how can it get worse’ over and over again) well…

Bush better not get impeached.

Work with me here, guys. Think; you’re all very bright! What happens when we impeach a president? Think about it. Vice-president takes over.

Who wants President Cheney? Sure, it’s scary enough that Bush is a puppet for Cheney…but what if Cheney is right out there in the open, free to run hog wild?

Scary.

I’d also like to note that Bush is determined to leave his lasting impression as the president that did everything in his power to oppress the gays. Foul man…but I can wait for his ass to get kicked out of office if it means no President Cheney.

Bush is obviously a Christian man…he’s doing everything in his power to bring about the apocalypse!

Back in 2000, I worried that we were electing a president who would run the country based on his religious beliefs.  This is just one of the many examples since then showing that I had good reason to worry.  George Bush despises science, unless it is used solely for promoting profit-making technologies.  It is a good thing that Bush has finally been exposed for the crass incompetent he is by the majority of Americans; otherwise, we would now be a theocracy not unlike Iran, ruled by the Ayatollah Bush.

If people don’t understand what this means I don’t know if you could draw a picture clear enough for them to ever understand.

We elect the puppets presented to us by big money. If you don’t generate the money the corporate interests initially invest in their next puppet.

The election is the only part of our Government that is Democratic.

After we seat one of the two puppets by a simple majority vote in the Electoral College the “Democracy ends for another four years.

The newly elected puppet takes his orders from the corporatacracy.

If we continue to allow the open buying of our elected officials through PAC’s and massive lobbying our individual rights and wellbeing will continue to erode.

The answer? Outlaw all campaign funds from the business community and outlaw all unsolicited input from those entities through the process called lobbying.

I think when George Washington was offered a seat as leader for life of the new Republic he realized that the people would not stand for it. Instead, they developed this form in order to make us think we had a voice.

Democracy is an illusion. Hence an underage boy in Mississippi gets 10 years for having consensual non-coitis sex with an underage girl while people like Paris (Millionaire) Hilton does about two weeks for a second or third state felony offence and Scooter Libby (Lawyer with high connections in the Whitehouse) gets a commuted sentence for betraying his oath to uphold the Constitution by lying to a duly appointed Prosecuter.

Straight up Nazi mass psychology. Textbook mimicry. Creating emotional plague through sexual repression, the energy thereof venting into agressiveness. The result, the surfacing of sadism subjected to obedience. The sadistic motive is totally masked by false motives, and all sense of accountability is given over to the authority figures who direct the masked sadistic urges of the masses.

“The energy source of the emotional plague reactions is basically sexual frustration combined with a keen aggressiveness.” (Wilhelm Reich “The Mass Psychology of Fascism” 1933)

““In the individual afflicted with the emotional plague, the motives of the action are always counterfeit. The ostensible motive never tallies with the real motive, whether the latter is conscious or unconscious. Nor does the ostensible goal tally with the real goal… It is a basic characteristic of the plague-afflicted individual that he seriously and honestly believes in the ostensible goal and motive…” (ibid.)

“Only the liberation of the natural capacity for love in human beings can master their sadistic destructiveness.” (ibid)

“The pleasure of living and the pleasure of the orgasm are identical. Extreme orgasm anxiety forms the basis of the general fear of life.”(ibid)

” The cry for freedom is a sign of suppression. It will never cease as long as man feels himself to be trapped. No matter how different the cries for freedom may be, at bottom they always express one and the same thing: the intolerableness of the organism’s rigidity and the mechanical institutions of life, which are sharply at variance with the natural sensations of life. If there should ever be a society in which all the cries for freedom fade away, then man will have finally overcome his biological and social deformity and have achieved genuine freedom. Not until man acknowledges that he is fundamentally an animal, will he be able to create a genuine culture.” (ibid)

If they would’ve just hired Jerry Falwell in the first place, they could have avoided all this dissension.

Margaret, the fault lies with us, the American public, for falling for “compassionate conservative” which was a marketing tool that meant nothing. We would have known that if we had taken the time and expended the effort to read what “conservatives” have always stood for….or even done something easier…found out who has been bankrolling the whole thing since the beginning.

CTBrnadon, I know how you feel. I have family who cheered for the persecution of Bill Clinton…because of a blow job!, not because of NAFTA, Yugoslavia, Iraq sanctions killing hundreds of thousands, constant bombing of Iraq, killing Libyan Pres’ baby daughter, or any of the other egregious policies of Mr. C. Now they follow this pitiful creature masquerading as a human as if he was Moses just down from the mountain. Do not try to speak to them about their rights as citizens of this country….....BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL ABOUT DENYING RIGHTS TO OTHERS, WHILE NEVER CONSIDERING THAT IT WILL EVENTUALLY BITE THEM IN THE BUT!!!!!

What amazes me most is I live in a place where so many church going people still follow Bush blindly as if he were the second coming of Jesus. The day that politicians figured out how to tap into the blind faith of Christianity and use it to garner support may well have been the day democracy died.

There is literally nothing that Karl Rove & Co. haven’t permeated with politics at the expense of whats right for the american people. The health of the americas citizen’s obviously takes a back seat to bu$h’s & the GOP’s designs on america. Its hard to be surporised anymore after 6+ years of this lunacy, but this is an example of just how far they have gone and what a complete lack scruples that they operate with. And we got 18 more months to go ?

This is all well and good, but wouldn’t this had been more effective and held more weight if Carmona had said something WHILE he was Surgeon General?

None of this is news now.  But it would have been 5 years ago.  Too often we see ‘former’ this or ‘ex’ that coming out and finally telling the truth about the current administration.  It’s not courageous to finally get around to standing up to someone when everyone else is already doing it.

What is the surprise here.We elect a religious fundamentalist and we are shocked he is bad on science.Three of the ten republicans raise their hands that they do not believe in evolution and they are still in the running. If one of the three gets elected President will there be more shock that they are not good on science. When you have to please the religious right to get elected you will either lie or stifle scientific evidence that goes contrary to their beliefs. In the intelligent design museum of natural history they have man and dinosaur in the same era.Never let the truth stand in the way of a good story.

This Bush was supposed to be a compassinate concerative what he turned out to be was a person who wanted power for the president, the corporations and the rich, just think the middle classs pay more taxes than the rich, yet the rich get the biggest portion of a tax break, the rich can invest and capital gains tax decreases, its as though if your rich you can call the shots if you are poor all you can do is pay in portion to your income more than the rich.

CEO’s are making record salaries and the bottom rung is making less and jobs are being outsourced.

This administration should be impeached and soon before they do any more damage.

Just more public confirmation of what we’ve known for years.

The public wanted a faith-based good-ol-boy for president, and thats exactly what they got.
