Rumsfeld Cashing In With Iraq Memoir?

What’s a former secretary of defense to do now that he’s out of a job?  Well, the answer for Donald Rumsfeld is apparently to write a (controlled) memoir arguing in defense of his military maneuvers in Iraq—for a sweet chunk of change.  New York publishers are buzzing about Rummy’s rumored pitch, which he’s apparently shopping around to see how much he has to reveal to land a lucrative deal.

New York Sun:

A principal for the publicity firm Shirley & Banister, Craig Shirley, said such a book would have a better-than-fair shot of becoming a bestseller if it was properly marketed, well-written, and contained interesting new content. In addition, the publisher of the conservative imprint Regnery, Marji Ross, estimated the former secretary would command at least a six-figure advance. Someone like Mr. Rumsfeld, who has a loyal following and yet sparks a lot of controversy, is good for book sales, she said.

A former spokesman for Mr. Rumsfeld, Lawrence di Rita, who is familiar with the former defense secretary’s activities, said the primary focus of Mr. Rumsfeld, who resigned from the Bush administration last year, has been the planning of a new educational foundation, and that the ex-defense chief has not made a final decision about whether to write a book.

You can set your watch to how these Neocons make their money.

With Sociopaths like Rumsfeld, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Feith, and that amiable half wit Bush, “running” America, the country has a lot more to worry about than silly distractions like what the Gays are doing.

ah, leave Donald Rumsfeld alone. Hasn’t he suffered enough.  I don’t know how he sleeps at night cause he seems to be the most hated man in America. Personally I think he’s gorgeous!

Well, Jimminy Christmas, what’s all the fuss??  Everyone seems to be saying, “Henny Penny, the sky is falling.” I know where all the insurgents are—they’re in the areas around Baghdad and Tikrit and areas to the north, south, east and west of there.  Golly, if the naysayers weren’t out in force I’d feel like I was in the wrong country.  Was it a difficult job?  Sure.  Do I have any regrets?  No.  Would I do it again?  You betcha.  Do I like answering my own questions?  Of course, the’re easier to answer than the ones from the press.

I already miss him not being in the national spotlight as the shining example of the dismal failure of the neocon experiment.  It’s too bad he wasn’t frog-marched out of the Pentagon in handcuffs and made to do the perp walk at The Hague to answer charges of being a war criminal along with the rest of the criminal gang—Bush, Cheney and Wolfowitz.

“If I did it” you can’t prove it, or you’re too damned lazy to do anything about it.

So, if you asked the question, Donald, did you have anything to do with the WTC disaster or the Pentagon attacks? I would have to answer, read my book, you lazy bastards!

Who gives a crap about this man’s reputation? He should be in prison. Prisoners are not permitted to make money writing about their crimes.

There are two types of people in the United States today. Those who are above the law and the rest of us. Who knows where this began. Probably it’s been going on forever, but certainly President Nixon being pardoned by his appointee was a low point in recent history.

In 2007 there seems to be a general acceptance that some are above the law and others are not. Some can lie under oath and commit horrendous crimes, yet remain free and retain a façade of respectability. Others are punished viciously for the most minor of crimes and their futures are marred forever. Past time to storm the Bastille.

Who is OJ Simpson? Who is Timothy McVeigh? Who is Jeffery Dahmer? Who is Seung Hui Cho? Who is Elian Gonzales? Who is Donald Rumsfeld?

Only people who FOX news want us to remember...or, forget? Why does FOX want people to remember some and forget others?

Why is it so easy to remember some and forget others? What is in our make-up that has us forgetting that Jeffery Dahmer feasted on...what was it that Jeffery was known for?… I forget.

Why shouldn’t Rummy profit from the war?  His chum Darth Cheney made a huge profit on it by seeing his stock value in Halliburton “surge” following the invasion.  That was quite a coincidence...wasn’t it?

I’m with Thomas, (and the rest of you). This DOES rank right up there with OJ’s “if I did it”, and that was as vile as I’d seen in a while.

Actually, it’s right on par with his best bud, and partner in crime...dick cheney. So, this isn’t a surprise, it just goes to show that the hubris and unmitigated gall are right there for all to see.

He’s cashing in like everybody else....if he can. (really just adding to his already vast collection of the profits of the past many years now)…

It was funny to hear his “advertised” as having “resigned” from his post last year. Funny how we all thought he was finally fired. Dick turned on him as well, not in the same way that he’s sacrificed Libby up, but he still made the call that it was Rummy who would have to go...certainly not HIM.

Rumsfeld’s legacy includes being the bad guy in the video game “Rumsfeld Invaders.” http://www.rumsfeldinvaders.com

Hopefully Congress can begin reversing the destructive policies he oversaw.  Even his former supporters realize that Rumsfeld has set our country backwards.  The Clinton era looks blissful by comparison.

Rumsfeld most likely will never be able to rehabilitate his reputation.

A wide range of American from many viewpoints, and people internationally, find quite a few things to dislike about him.

Many consider him a failure as SecDef and a failure as a decent human being.

Food for thought regarding Rumsfeld in the articles:

Not surprising that he would be shopping a book but nevertheless nauseating.  This ranks up there with OJ Simpson’s coy effort at self-confession.  Maybe one day the publishers will get a conscience and apply a standard of smell.  The souce, The NY Sun, was the same publication that floated the idea of
Cheney becoming the GOP candidate for 08.  That idea was somewhat rank as well.

Best to all and good luck to our country, God knows,we need it.

This man should not be allowed to profit from his crimes. Any money he earns from his more lies should go to victims families in Iraq and here at home.
