Gas Riots in IranPosted on Jun 27, 2007
You wouldn’t think one of the world’s biggest oil producers would have gasoline shortages, but Iran simply lacks the refining capacity to meet demand. A new rationing system meant to keep costs down has sparked riots. Under the new rules, prices have soared to 38 cents a gallon.

By I know that I know nothing, June 29, 2007 at 5:45 am # Lilmamzer - thanks again for patronizingly repeating your interpretation of Revolution. I got it from your original message that you view Sir Paul and Mr. Lennon as brave anti-group think warriors. But always having been something of an anti-groupthink warrior myself, I just never got the Beatles. I always thought they were a rather mediocre pop band that occasionally veered into the pretentious with unintentionally hilarious results. You know, a little like your posts on Truthdig.

Prices in the U.S. been soaring from $ 1.70 a year and half ago to over $ 3.50 now, and no serious sign of popular expression of unhappiness! Fadel, I agree completely, we have only ourselves to blame for what’s being done to us. We’ve become the ultimate consuming zombies that don’t even question the price of anything or the ridiculous profits being made at our expense.
By purplewolf, June 28, 2007 at 4:30 pm # So the Iranians don’t like the new price of 38 cents a gallon for gas. Boohoohoo, my heart goes out to them-not. How would they like to pay what we are paying over $3.29 a gallon right now.
By I know that I know nothing, June 28, 2007 at 11:57 am # lilmamzer - thank you so much for kindly quoting one of the most reactionary songs ever written! I took the liberty to forward three copies of your bold lyrics to Paul Revere in the year 1773 so he can deliver copies to Jefferson, Payne, and Washington. Fadel - I had similar thoughts during the ‘orange revolution’ in Unkraine, while Americans stayed home after two blatantly stolen elections. Alas, maybe Americans did have it right. It seems for the Ukraine today we can quote another song: “same as it ever was, same as it ever was.” I know that there is something of a contradiction between those two paragraphs and that is why I know that I know nothing.

By ann, June 28, 2007 at 8:17 am # How can we trust that it is not the CIA inciting riots in Iran just as it did in 1953 when we overthrew Mossedeg?
By Chaseme, June 28, 2007 at 7:14 am # Fadel Abdallah, don’t be offended if there aren’t many more comments to follow this post, becuase your comment summed it up for the rest of us. Very well done! Add Your Comment |
