The CIA’s ‘Family Jewels’Posted on Jun 22, 2007
The National Security Archive at George Washington University has posted documents on its website that expose ugly activities by the CIA before reforms were made in the 1970s. The secrecy watchdog says the agency violated its charter for 25 years by spying on journalists and political dissidents, in addition to engaging in other nefarious activities.

By Bullwinkle, June 25, 2007 at 7:22 pm # “JUDGMENT by the wayt is spelled without the E - ooo Actually, Rocky J Squirrel, Judgement is spelled with or without the ‘e’, depending on preference. The British and Australians use the ‘e’ while most American don’t. Of course, English was the Brits language first…

Whenever you want to come back to earth and open your eyes to the problems we are discussing, we will allow that as well. We love you and we won’t judge the comments you make. If you need help, we are here for you. If you need love, our arms are open. If you need to rant and babble, we’ll listen. We love you, Frank. Good boy, Frank. Good boy.
By Louise, June 23, 2007 at 11:33 pm # I wish this could shock me, but most of it has already been revealed in one form or another. So, why the big hoopla? On second thought, there are kids out there who don’t know the “checkered” history of CIA. Get the information to them and maybe they’ll educate their parents! Once upon a time, there was a real debate in congress about whether or not the CIA should be abolished. Now the debate has surfaced again, but not in Congress which seems un-concerned about CIA blowback. A term that first appeared in a classified CIA post-action report on the overthrow of the Iranian government in 1953, carried out in the interests of British Petroleum. Oh my gosh! Not oil! Doesn’t it make you feel safe and snugly knowing these guys are out there starting wars to keep “your” oil safe? In 1963, Harry S. Truman said, [In 1947, President Truman created the CIA out of the World War II Office of Strategic Services(OSS).] “There is something about the way the CIA has been functioning that is casting a shadow over our historic position and I feel that we need to correct it.” Of course it wasn’t corrected. Oh I forgot, something has ... The new and improved CIA. And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. Kinda gets ya right here, huh? “Improve the CIA? “Neither the Americans nor their victims in numerous Muslim and Third World countries will ever know peace until the Central Intelligence Agency has been abolished.”
By kikz, June 23, 2007 at 5:56 am # ooook, trillions missing, cia naughtiness, enterprise strike group bound for the gulf, cheney quoted as 4th branch… more torture scandal.....looks like the big dump, before the big op. reminiscent of 9/10/01 when rummy let us know trillions were missing frm the pentagon. i just hope the op takes place somewhere other than on us soil.
By Chaseme, June 22, 2007 at 7:37 pm # The CIA simply wants everyone to know that all of the shit they have done to the American public for the past 25 years, doesn’t even come close to what the bush administration has done in the past 7 years.
By DennisD, June 22, 2007 at 7:16 pm # What amazes me most is how accepting the average American will be of these “CIA revelations” and not even realize it’s the things they’re not telling you they’ve done and are doing, those are the ones you should be most worried about. We have a government that represents itself and corporate interests, period. We the people haven’t been in the equation for a very long time. Absolute power has corrupted every facet of our government absolutely. No single election is going to change what has taken root and been allowed to grow for over 60 plus years. I agree with Verne, the only way to take this country back is get out in the streets and do it. We the people, who are supposed to be the watch dogs of our government, have been asleep at the switch. Time to wake the hell up and remind our “leaders” we’re here and they’re the ones who are expendable.
By Jesse Turner, June 22, 2007 at 5:17 pm # Could it be that the CIA and the Bush and Company are giving us a red herring? Look, nothing alarms me about his government. I was around during the sixities and I actually lived next door to a Black Panther member. Back then people fought for their rights and the rights of others. Fast forward 40 and something years to our current government and where is the outrage, the protest, and the demand for government accountibility? There are a few of us who refuse to bury our heads in the sand and pretend all is well. Yes, we all want a safer world where respect for man/womankind is viewed with virtures. Isn’t is amazing that the CIA is opening a tiny windowto its past while Cheney nails his shut? Hey, dilusional and being insecure is what the above writer actually was referring too.
By republicanSScareme, June 22, 2007 at 1:46 pm # The CIA is an enemy of the American people. It is controlled by the criminal rich. It needs to be abolished. Add Your Comment |
