Bush’s Career Plans for Tony Blair

The U.S. and Israel are pressuring Tony Blair to become the “quartet’s” (that would be the U.S., the EU, the U.N. and Russia) Mideast envoy, because he’s already done such a bang-up job soothing tensions in the Arab world. But Blair might not be interested since President Bush and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert would want to limit his scope to setting up a functioning Palestinian state.

New York Times:

The appointment would be the most visible attempt at laying the groundwork for a Palestinian state since President Bill Clinton wrangled during the waning hours of his administration in 2001 with the Palestinian leader Yasir Arafat and then-Prime Minister Ehud Barak of Israel.

If the proposal endorsed by President Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice goes forward, Mr. Blair would represent the United States, European Union, the United Nations and Russia—known as the “quartet”—in working with Palestinian officials to build the institutions and apparatus necessary for a viable state. The proposal shows the renewed urgency in the international attempts to deal with the crisis in the Palestinian territories, where the Hamas faction has fought its way to ascendancy in Gaza and the Fatah faction under the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, has set up a provisional government in the West Bank.

Mr. Bush has spoken to Mr. Blair about the proposal, and discussed it on Tuesday with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert of Israel, Bush administration and Israeli officials said. Senior Israeli officials said Mr. Olmert was very keen on the idea.

Well, give it a try. What’s to lose?
I just watched the Queen for the first time last night. Poodle, lap dog…I think Corgi is the best metaphor.
But even Tony knows he’s getting set up as a blame sponge.

Good old Tony. Let me scratch you behind the ear.

Bush and I have one thing in common, we both hate to lose a good lap dog.

What is really behind this is George Bush’s reluctance to release his lapdog from its obeisance.

And what kind of envoy would Blair make if he is being supported by the terrorist state of Israel and its sponsor, the U.S. I would trust any coming our of Israel or th U.S. when it comes to the middle east. The international community needs to help organizations like Hammas to continue their struggle against the occupation by Israel.

It’s worth reading this analysis by the BBC’s Middle East editor Jeremy Bowen on why Blair as a peace envoy would be pretty much unacceptable to everyone in the M East except for the Israelis. It was written in May, but is still most pertinent.

This article can’t be serious. Blair should be selling fish and chips at Picadilly Circus if they’d have him.

One would think that Blair would have learned by now that being known as ‘Bush’s Pimp’ is not a good career choice.

Could he be as ‘slow’ as his ‘mentor’?

Could we use a “poodle” to play human being role ?
Are we running out of real politician with high profile in international affairs ?
Poodle is always a poodle !
